WIN!: Street Performer WIN

Incorrect source or offensive?

» 127 Failures in Communication

  1. Sympatico says:

    It’s a great performance.

Sadly, I NEVER give money to people using amplified instruments.

But I’m very generous when someone is playing acoustic only.

    • a@b.de says:

Lol, i never give money to acoustic players :)

    • Rock Johnson says:

Does amplification make them less of a musician? Your logic is flawed.

      • Error 409 says:

Because you never know if there is a hidden dwarf orchestra inside the amplifier, and the musician is cheating. To be fair, I never give money to street performers. :p

    • Katie Irvin says:

You don’t like it when people play louder so that more people can hear it?

      • me says:

Personally I don’t like it cause they assume I will like what they are playing. I don’t need to hear some crappy street performer the whole time Im shopping at CVS, thank you.

    • Drop Them Bills says:

You all suck…..you know that, right ?

    • Frank says:

It’s a great performance, but rather than contribute to this man’s art, you withheld on some arbitrary measure that is really quite biased! It’s your money, of course do what you want. But I hope that you’ll consider in the future that if the peformance was worth listening to, then it was also worth paying for.

    • Ann says:

what is the difference in your eyes? It does not make someone less of a skilled musician to be playing an amplified instrument. This guy is fantastic and knows the tricks. Using guitar pedals to make loops can be difficult and requires the performer to have perfect timing. He is creating layers of sound he has created himself, he is essentially functioning as an entire band. He most definitely a VERY well trained and educated musician.

      • Sympatico says:

I just love the sound of raw instruments and dislike having to hear them through amplification. So I favour those providing what I like.

I must admit, if a musician is really good, I do break my rule.

      • Dely23 says:

I agree, this was freaking INCREDIBLE. It takes enough talent to mix something that sounds that good with a computer… to do so with a single instrument, live, is just phenomenal.

It absolutely has nothing to do with whether you like the song he’s playing or not. When someone is that talented, you really should appreciate it. I mean, what’s 25c from your pocket for those people who dislike the song… but really, that performance was worth at LEAST $5

    • as if says:

You do know he plays the dull slow voice, and the repetitive crap that keeps repeating (and people who don’t have the concentration to listen to music usually keep their attention to) is pre-recorded?

      • Abs says:

I came to the comments specifically to see if anyone else would mention this. There are many talented street performers, but it doesn’t take a lot of talent to play along with a recording. How do we know any of it is legit?

        • Dan says:

Yeah, it’s not pre-recorded. Check out the little red box he keeps stepping on. It’s a Boss RC-3 Loop pedal. He is playing each part live and looping them over eachother.

    • Holier than thou says:

GOD FORGIVE YOUR THIEVING, JUDGEMENTAL albeit acoustic HEART!!!!!!!

    • nichtakustik says:

I don’t know why you would be harsh on him, he couldn’t pull off what he did without that pedal, and he couldn’t use the pedal without the amp, soo..

    • lnawe says:

Pure inspiration, now i want to learn that holy crap

  2. Sandflyer says:

Well, OK. Imaginative, but not greatly so. The man uses a Boss RC-3 Loop Station. With a bit of control you can play like this for hours.

I pay street musicians when they move me – amplified or not, no matter.
If I see true effort, it’s worth money to me.

  3. A German says:

He does not look like somebody who needs the money

    But good performance.

    • Ann says:

Why is music not a commodity worth paying for unless somebody is homeless?

      • Banana says:

I agree! If someone loves music enough and wants to share their love by, say, performing on the street, are they not allowed if they’re not homeless?

Maybe he just wants to be able to perform, and hey, if he get a few bucks, good day! This is no different than him playing in a venue…the audience is just bigger and he gets less money.

  4. sonicchaos says:

His music gives goosebumps to geese

  5. m16shane says:

It me sad how some very untalented people can make it big and become regulars on the radio, and others that truly have a gift play on the streets. Not that this guy truly looks like he is in need of money but he really does have some talent.

  6. Hannah says:

This guy’s on youtube his name is violin2003

  7. WizardTizzle says:

There was a guy playing some kinda horn (the curly kind with the fat end? French horn?) Outside the minimart where I work. He kept playing regardless of snow and lack of interest (the people in my town are high-brow dbags)…I ended up supplying with self-heating cups of coffee on my break. Win for me :D I got music on the tills, he stayed warm!

  8. Justin says:

Also check out Ed Alleyne-Johnson who I think this guy may have heard…

  9. Matt says:

Meh. Those loop things are ridiculous. Not a fan. It’s like photoshop for a bad photographer – it can’t make terrible stuff go away, but it can make pretty average artists look like JS Bach or Picasso

    • Steve says:

The world could use more Bach and Picasso – if it’s done with raw talent and acoustic instruments, or if it’s done with one schmuck with a gizmotron, good music is good music.

      • Outback Jon says:

        This.
It’s damn difficult to accompany yourself without some sort of gizmotron.

        • Nemrtvi says:

Which is why gizmotrons should be discouraged, and the pursuit of greater skill encouraged.

          • coretemp says:

Gizmotrons require skill, too (in fact, usually more skill and theory knowledge than acoustic instruments). They provide more openings for a creative person to exercise their creativity, that’s all. People with no skills will still sound like people with no skills no matter how good their gizmotron is.

    • Tarbal says:

So people shouldn’t use multitrack recorders either, because it’s cheating? He’s making his own loops on the spot. That pretty boss.

  10. ArnSl says:

Cool asians are just that cooler than other cool people.

    - Grettings from an not so cool dane.

  11. Nathan says:

That was amazing… and a song from my favorite band! :D OneRepublic ftw!!

And yea he used a loop machine.. but guess what. everything you here is him! He is his own orchestra. you cant say that isnt talent.

  12. babuska says:

That’s two Spokane related posts in two days ._.

This guy is really good though. Sometimes he plays with another guy who plays a normal, non electric violin. They remind me of 2Cellos :D

  13. Grim says:

    SUCK IT DOWN, DUBSTEP!

  14. isabelle says:

oh hey i’m from spokane, he’s pretty good.
I haven’t seen him in awhile.

  15. Sandflyer says:

    @Nathan:
No, true talent would be if he whipped off a Bach Partita for solo violin.
Loop stations are fun, but they can get tedious after a while, that’s all.

  16. anyone else notice how the video was sped up by .4

  17. Deusdragon says:

Hey, this kid nicked David Ford’s act!

  18. JimK says:

If you like what he’s doing with the Loop pedal, check out Andrew Bird. He does original work with the fiddle & loop pedal.

  19. Sandflyer says:

What is that woman doing at ~2:14?

  20. since we’re having posts like this on failblog, why not post some cute kitten or delicious recipe “wins” ?

  21. john says:

I’m from Spokane, and that guy is lucky the cops didn’t give him a beatdown for being a minority.

  22. Frappo says:

I bet this guy could make more money doing wedding receptions than on the street. Tips would be a whole lot better when you’re playing for a buncha drunk ‘happy’ people.

  23. Shoto says:

This honestly had me react with “TAKE ALL MY MONEY”
…but nothing happened when i threw my wallet at the screen….

    This guy is so skilled!

  24. retfird says:

    meh,

    get a band

  25. Jenni says:

Was I the only one who noticed the mouse running across the footpath in the background at 1.:22 ?

    • HidyHo says:

I didn’t think it was a mouse, no direction changes and it looked like it got stuck under the bike rack. I was thinking it was a drink can or something rolling across the sidewalk.

    • Giggity-do-dah says:

it looks more like a rat.. a mouse is way too small to have been noticable. I have 3 pet buck rats and the size looks about right.

  26. cathy says:

I see a super bowl comercial in his future!

  27. ArnSl says:

    First rule of the interwebs:

If you see something on the interwebs that is hard to belive, then its because its not true.

    Second rule of the interwebs:

    People are idiots

    Third rule of the interwebs:

Spam the interwebs. You WILL make money, (see rule number 2)

  28. Lauren says:

I love his English counterpart, Ed Alleyne-Johnson. He’s been busking over here for years, my dad has every one of his CD’s.

  29. sweetlexi says:

damn i saw this post like 238749837843 times in the last 3 days

  30. Michelle says:

I passed through the 14th street subway station today and was wowed by the ‘Saw Lady’! Have you seen her? This is her playing the ‘Star Trek’ theme on a saw! http://youtu.be/lPvTTc7jAVQ

  31. Non says:

He’s good, but no Michael Shulman.

  32. la joe says:

    Very Nice

  33. That guy needs to move to a real city. He could make some real money.

  34. Chris Kling says:

Sounds great… but what’s the lady doing @ 2:10? Making change?

  35. Maleven says:

Wow, I can hardly believe that no else hasn’t already commented on that girls skirt going up cuz of the wind.
That video was a WIN for both the violinist and double plus good cuz of seeing that girl’s panties.

It’s about 60% through the video.
It’s the group of 3 girls.
The one with the plaid skirt has it fly up while she’s walking away.

  36. walkdog says:

    hot chicks in the back!

  37. Sandflyer says:

OK, I figured it out – the white squares are probably CDs that the guy is selling. The woman at 2:14 is putting a bill under the CDs so the bill doesn’t get blown away by the wind.

    * * *
C’mon, by the time her skirt flies up she’s so far away it doesn’t really matter.

  38. Giggity-do-dah says:

anyone notice the rat running across the pavement :P 1:20 onwards ;)

  39. sakasiru says:

What bugs me is that noone stops and stays to listen, even those that put him dollars into the case. Around here, he would have gathered a crowd in a minute.

    • xiu says:

chances are that the people are standing off camera (to the left). when id see that guy getting filmed i wouldnt walk into the picture.

      maybe thats just me tho

  40. VeganOverlord says:

I read many of these comments and now I feel like an idiot. Why didn’t I stop after only a few? It was obvious they were all idiotic – why did I think they would get better as I read on? “I never give money to street performers using amps”, “I figured out what the woman in 2:14 is doing!”, “Holy s**t, did you see that mouse?”. Shame on me for reading this crap. Double shame on you for posting it (no-shame-back). Triple shame on failblog moderator for not intervening and as we all know triple-shame is the greatest amount of shame possible.

  41. James says:

At his worst, he still has more talent than me so I applaud him! :-)

  42. russ says:

    This dude ROX!!!

  43. bigbenbigben says:

Owen Pallett/Final Fantasy have been doing this for years. I like him, but not this reductive carbon copy.

  44. Kelly says:

I ALWAYS see this guy when I am driving past and am too busy blasting music and trying not to hit people to know that he plays awesome music. Next time I see him out there I am going to pull over and listen.

  45. Trolllllllll says:

    ASIAN GUY IS HOT <3

  46. Drew Hill says:

This is exactly the same thing but much much better…btw please change it to 480p it makes a ton of difference!

  47. Jason says:

A loop machine won’t make anyone a good musician. This man is talented. Give him an acoustic instrument, he will still be a good musician.

    Quit being so closed minded.

  48. Klaus Nahr says:

    At 2:10: Prost.itutes?

  49. shaddocc@gmail.com says:

I would have walked to the cashpoint and and taken out no less that £30 and gave it to him personally because i would pay to hear a performance like that.

  50. Music Lover says:

    Simply beautiful.
    Well done.
Shame Spokane appears to be full of tight-arses.

  51. Man those Japanese robots are looking real as sh*t these days.

  52. Devin says:

    Coolest thing about this vid?

I have that same orange power unit. it’s pretty cool, jumpstarts your car, inflate your tires and acts as a portable power unit.

Just in case anyone was wondering…

  53. Martin says:

I THINK WE’RE MISSING THE POINT!!! THERE IS A HAUNTED POP CAN IN THIS VIDEO!! SOMEONE CALL SOME BODY!!!
