              When was the last time you were assaulted or accosted by a pothead or someone tripping on acid or someone rolling on E? Danger to themselves, sure, but to others?

              Heroin addicts are useless. Which pretty much leaves crackheads and meth heads as more than likely a danger to others… and even then I’m still assuming.

              Meanwhile, I have been threatened with physical harm, on more than one occasion, without any provocation, by drunk people. I have had a drunk driver in a truck try to rear-end me, then subsequently run me off the road (because a Mazda Protege can’t outrun an old Ford or Chevy truck). Then they stopped and got out of their drunk to try to fight me because in their drunker stupor, actually believed I did something wrong to them. Drunk people cause more danger to others. Druggies tend to keep to themselves, if they even leave the house.

          Nah, old people and soccer moms are a danger, but they’re not an immediate or obvious danger. That’s why drunks are pulled over and arrested, whereas the elderly are not.

            But that’s the whole point. Drunks get arrested, not because they are drunks, but because the drive drunk. People on LSD get arrested even if they don’t drive or pose any immediate danger to themselves or others. I don’t understand the double standards in society. Explain to me, how is posession of drugs any different from posession of alcohol?

              Alcohol is a drug. Alcohol does more damage to society than LSD ever has. Alcohol does more physical damage to a person’s body than LSD does.
              People shouldn’t go to jail for using drugs. Using drugs doesn’t make someone a criminal. They may be sick, but they’re not criminals.

              There is an old documentary on the government trying LSD on soldiers, the soldiers stripped down and started climbing trees to look at a birds nest…

              But really any drug can be a danger to certian people, some may be able to handle LSD but I think the fear is that the schizophrenic guy who hears voices will take LSD and be convinced the evil monkies in his head want him to go on a killing rampage.

              Also the fact that LSD slowly messes you up mentally, but any drug does that, weed, and alcohal do, so it will always be illegal because the government is trying to baby people like we’re all children, they dont get that some people dont want to face reality or live in monotony all their life.

              I believe it is a persons choice to take mind damaging substances, as long as they dont pressure others or hurt others, its their life. BUT I also approve of peoples choice to suicide and think hospitals should have a program in place to let people commit suicide painlessly if they so wished. I am considered a bad person for this, so my opinion does not count.

                    Interesting study. I’ve seen similar studies linking early onset schizophrenia to early heavy cannabis use. Personally, I think it’s a bit of a leap from “LSD psychosis is similar to schizophrenia” or “early heavy cannabis use is correlated with early onset schizophrenia” to “LSD/cannabis slowly messes you up mentally” – as if it’s a given.

                    Drug taking is risky and there are people who should not use LSD, just as there are people who should not use cannabis, or alcohol, and my friend who shouldn’t use coffee – but a blanket statement that it *will* mess you up is simply untrue. The discourse around drugs is full of this kind of thing and it annoys me because it prevents drug use and its risks from being discussed rationally .

                        That’s a pretty sweeping statement to try and reply to, tbh. But as far as I know from the reading I’ve done, the only illegal recreational substance that’s been proven to actually damage brain material at a cellular level is meth – and even that’s been shown to reverse at least in part after a period of abstinence. There’s no evidence I can find that LSD causes brain damage in any tangible, measurable way.

                        I know that doesn’t really answer your question, but the ‘certain substances’ bit would need to be more specific and mental changes that come from things other than ‘killing brain cells’ ruled out before it could be answered comprehensively, eh? ;-)

              When I was in highschool, during a particular time that LSD was popular, I saw a schoolmate swan dive off a four story apartment complex. Last thing he said was that he could fly.
              A year or so later, another guy jumped off the top floor inside a mall. He fell all the way through a open middle of the mall, and impaled himself on the large tree that was growing in the lobby. He did live, but when asked why he did it, he couldn’t remember.. he was high on LSD too.

Anyway, how do you even think that people believe they can fly when tripping? I’ve used a lot of psychedelics and I have had some incredible visions, I’ve been mesmerized by carpet, I’ve even had time stop for me, but not once did I ever think that I might be able to fly (though more than once sitting on the floor felt a lot like flying). When someone jumps off a building sober do we presume to believe they trying to fly? Powerful hallucinogens like LSD and psilocybin can really have unexpected and profound effects on your psyche, but they aren’t the reason that people do crazy and stupid s*it. Seriously, stop trying to pretend you’re an expert, some of us are far better informed than you.

    Luckily, the amount of heroin I use is harmless, I inject about once a month on a purely recreational basis. Fine. But what about other people less stable, less educated, less middle-class than me? Builders or blacks for example. If you’re one of those, my advice is leave well alone. Good luck.

        I think you must have lost the memo: the twelve-step program is notoriously ineffective. Also note that you don’t hear stories about people who resist addiction to illegal drugs because they don’t destroy their lives, they don’t steal from friends and family, and they sure as shit don’t go around talking about it all the time. Suspend belief of drug information that is found on DARE pamphlets until you can actually research it for yourself, captain propaganda.

                I’ve used meth once in my life; I’ve done coke twice; I’ve never used heroin, but I’ve had a couple powerful pharmaceutical opiates several times before; I’ve used Adderall a few times; I’ve even been prescribed clonazepam before for depression and social anxiety, and acquired by black market and taken that, Diazepam, Alprazolam, and Lorazepam for anxiety as well as recreation; I used to regularly consume cough syrup as well as pills with Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide; I have had experiences with psilocybin, LSD, DMT, 5-MeO-DiPT, 5-MeO-DMT, DPT, Ketamine, MDMA, and 2C-B, to name a few more. I have also smoked my fair share of pot. At some times in my life, a couple of these drugs had caused me some problems, even being sent home from work once because I was puking due to the amount of clonazepam consumed the night before. Overall, I consider the bulk of my experiences to be quite positive, especially my experiences with psychedelic hallucinogens.

                I have never attacked or otherwise harmed anyone while under the influence of these drugs. I never injured myself either. I have never been arrested, given a DUI or DWI.

                I have also never been to a meeting. Nobody told me I was sick, I just don’t feel the need to be high all the time. I also don’t feel the need to be sober all the time. The key to a healthy soul is a free and open mind, no social or behavioral conditioning required.

                I am an atheist, and therefor have not needed to use faith as a crutch.

                The last time I used 90% of those drugs was well over a year ago. I haven’t smoked pot in over 3 months, and I tend to have 2 or 3 alcoholic drinks a week. I also drink Kava tea sometimes.

                What exactly is it that needs to get better?

You may not be consciously aware that things like vocal inflection and body language are lost when using text to communicate, but it seems you may have misunderstood mine when trying to subvocalise my commentary. I also suspect you may not have any idea of the pharmacodynamics of kavalactones, but hypertension is not among the common effects.

        I used to know a guy who was a labourer and ‘managed’ his heroin use… he would never really get high but used to inject a few times a day just to feel normal, so it can happen. This was a decade ago though and I highly doubt he’s still alive today if he’s using.

        I’m going to make a not-very-massive leap and suggest that the people above have been artfully trolled xD

    because if that were true, then you would have to re-think a lot of your life decisions because i assume you have based a lot of life decisions around facts from the same sources, and then you think… shit i haven’t actually made any life decisions on my own, but merely what other people have suggested to me via pamphlets and the promises of working hard in a strict 9-5, 5 days a week, 4weeks off a year type job.

    No even if i’m completely wrong, you should STILL be questioning it. And not just blindly following and accepting the information that is just ‘very handily available, by a organization or group of people that have zero ulterior motives’

      Think about it this way. Some can and some don’t know they can’t until it’s too late. If you can identify yourself as a compulsive pleasure-seeker, it’s best to stay away from mind altering substances to start. It becomes WAY too easy to get what you want mentally, that you eventually find yourself taking the shortcut all the time.

      I found myself addicted to non-addictive substances because of that defect. We become addicted to our own brain’s pleasure response.

                Because they weren’t ‘hard-wired’ like some are. I know it can be looked at as a ‘cop out’ to say you just can’t quit, but try telling a schizophrenic to stop hallucinating. I know that is an extreme comparison, but it feels the same to the one who is suffering. Attending a meeting (organized or non-organized) is a good way for people to support each other through similar consequences. I support social-bonding for like minded individuals more so than a strictly titled organization. In the end it is about learning self-control, though (like you said).

    I’ve done it several dozen times and I can honestly say I never thought I could fly, never impaled myself on a tree, and generally had a good time.

    Now that I’m all growed up, I wouldn’t do it, but hey if you’re without any responsibilities, it’s not going to kill you.

    Taking drugs in moderation is okay imo. If you don’t know your own limit, or are too stupid to set a limit, then you’ll end up taking more than you can handle. So long as you take drugs in moderation (like once or twice a week) then it probably won’t hurt. Too much of anything can be harmful.
