My mom when I ask her which browser she’s using (during one of my many tech support calls from her) “Browser? I just click on the Internet and it opens.” So next time I was there I installed Chrome and named it “The Internet”
My mom, too!!!! I’m like, REALLY….do you NOT know the difference between Chrome, IE and Firefox? Actually, my aunt is worse, she calls it Foxfire. And my stepdad calls it Google’s. Even better, he says Googles doesn’t work. Mmmmmmkay.
God dammit, failblog! What’s with alle that IE hate recently? Are you guys still stuck in 2003 or something? That’s just childish. More of this crap and I’m unsubscribing…
It’s so very sad when there are so many resources for checking facts before someone opens mouth (and types), but people still don’t use them.
Not only was IE late to the party, it has NEVER been “free”. I don’t consider anything that is bundled with something else to be free. Oh look! I bought at $15,000 car and got a free radio!!
Your argument about IE not being free (as in beer) is wrong for two reasons: Following your logic, every free program that only runs on Windows wouldn’t be free. And IE was available for Mac OS.
Ignoring the fact that IE is so integrated into the OS that if it ever breaks you have to….wait for it…..wait for it….reinstall the entire god damn OS. Which I’ve had to do on my mom’s system.
Ignoring that fact there is also the fact that it still doesn’t render pages as well as Firefox or Chrome.
Actually the original IE circa 1995 was based heavily off the mosaic code and it was not integrated into the OS at all, even installed on Win 3.1 and had optionally its own dialer. And yes, it was “free”(as in beer), and it did kick Netscape’s @55 at the time, at least for performance.
If they didn’t notice as claimed in the computer, then they were too stupid to not know they weren’t doing what they want. Kinda like most people who go to the polls and vote democrap or repuglican.
You know what every single time I try to use any browser except IE it’s an utter pile of garbage. Three times I have tried using firefox and within the first day discovered multiple websites not displaying properly. These websites are full of people in the comment section complaining that the site doesn’t display properly.
Right now I’m trying chrome for the second time but honestly I’m probably going to go back to IE because Chrome is also rubbish. Yes it’s quick and adblock is fantastic. However I need Japanese language support and chrome is awful at it. So you go change the encoding and add the language but then it seems to depend on IE having the language pack anyway. It then constantly has problems displaying. There are loads of threads about it from 2 years ago! Yet no fix yet. Sometimes a solution can be to close chrome, open IE, then close IE and reopen chrome! Is that quicker?!
Or hey you can’t just open files, you have to download then open them…. again reported years ago and nothing done. Somehow it manages to have issues with youtube (seriously how?) with videos not allowing you to skip or even watch them, simply telling you there was an error. A fix for this is to sign into a google account.
It also seems to have issues with some websites where it will store your username and data but won’t keep you signed in, even though IE will.
IE is the only one where I basically have no issues at all. Yea it’s a little slower but sites still load very quickly. I will take a stable program over interesting but flawed ones anyday (seriously who years ago thought IE would be the stable one?!)
thats not even true
google chrome is not faster better anything
if you are not able to handle a good browser just install a new one
if you cant handle problems with a girl get a new one right ?
it always better to just don’t use your brain to fix anythign just keep installing trash on your pc because its so much better having 24382380921 extra tools for the same amount of programms that you ALREADY HAVE on your computer installed
and why you think they say it was bad and messed everything up ?
my brother installed firefox on my parents pc and it has always the same problem firefox crashes once a day
- superb
seriously you guys have issues if you can’t even handle a internet explorer
poor actually
Just because it’s Internet Explorer means it’s crap.
Although IE9 is a lot less crap than any IE version released in the last decade, maybe more. You know, back in the dark ages where no browsers knew really what standards were and IE was the king because everyone had it.
This is precisely why you use portable apps when you know you’ll be using someone else’s computer that you can’t/don’t want to modify. Leaves almost no trace, and if you’re dealing with ‘derps’, 100% no trace.
“Everyone is forced to use Opera.
(what, imho, it is way better than Safari, IE, FatFox, Chrome and other unknown browsers)”
Quoted for truth.
It’s quite funny the way the nerds and dweebs go with ‘the latest” : chrome when they could have been using a browser far superior to IE and most others for years.
As a Web Developer I can say:
IE – Standard (T_T)
FF – For Developers and Many companies
C – For hasty ppl
O – For those who want to be different
S – For those who want to be special
NC – for some real “special” ppl
That is what my site statistics tell me
My browser is Mozilla Firefox. While it freezes up much less than Internet Explorer did, whether it loaded quicker, I frankly couldn’t tell a difference enough to care.
I’ve used Google Chrome briefly. Does it really run that much better than Internet Explorer? I couldn’t tell you, seeing as it’s taken me several of minutes to load the homepage. I’m not a computer genius, never claimed to be, nor will I ever, but I’m more patient than most people when it comes to downloading pages and to me it felt like ages waiting.
Considering the commotion that the author of this dinky comic made about all the little people using Internet Explorer and after making so much effort to change their browser to Google Chrome so that “nobody could tell the difference” isn’t saying much for Google Chrome.
If I was that eager to use the internet, I really wouldn’t give a rat’s what browser someone else used. Assuming (author) has a computer of his own, he should use his own computer if it really means that much to him.
Then again, I’d much sooner get rid of the blue screens my machine gets than anything else because in my personal opinion, frequently needing to reboot my computer is tons more annoying than waiting an extra five seconds for my internet page to download.

To the dumbass who wrote the comic:-
Going round installing software on other peoples computers without their permission is a crappy thing to do, even worse when its against their explicit instructions. You might think you’re Mr computer genius because you use google chrome, but at the end of the day you’re no better than a dumb kid who installs a stupid toolbar because he want to use emotions in facebook.
You might think they haven’t noticed that they you changed the browser, but more likely they’re just confused why they cant find their favourites and all the buttons seem to have moved. They feel stupid and you’ve harmed their user experience, and you’ve violated their trust.
That’s exactly why most sys admins end up using Internet Explorer, a LOT. Why do they use internet explorer? Not because they like it, it’s because it’s stock with windows, easier to regulate via GPO, and they don’t have time to mess with user preference.
A junior admin who goes around, installing FF, or Chrome on workstations because he thinks it’s better is gonna get in some trouble.
Ah, I know these sorts of computer geniuses, they’re also the ones who think that turning on a router and plugging in a bunch of network cables also make them a networking guru…
So, what you’re trying to say is that pr0n (or in this case, since it IS Failblog, probably just a picture of a girl in a tank top eating an ice cream sandwich) loads quicker for you. Good to know.
IE works just fine. I use it on both my home computers and have zero issues with it. I use IE at work for business. It is not the best because we are using a very old version. I use FireFox at work for personal web browsing. The difference between FireFox and IE for web browsing is negligible. Some folks just get a superiority complex over really stupid things.
My dad installed Firefox when he fixed my computer. To be honest, does Firefox jam up on me much less than Internet Explorer did when I used it? It does, but other than that, it pretty much loads at the same rate.
I briefly used Google Chrome, but switched back to Firefox because, while I am no computer genius, my system had been experiencing problems since I downloaded it, and even on a computer that’s clearly seen better days, it took several minutes to load the homepage while with Firefox, it took about 30 seconds to a minute to complete loading. Faster? Compared to what?
So, the 14 year old in the comic that renamed the chrome icon to IE and no one ever noticed?
sha!
1 – Such a completely different interface, how could no one ever notice (more likely they found a way around your lame attempt to force your ideals on them).
2 – If no one noticed, then that means the two browsers are that much alike — why bother?
I think you are making his/her point–the 3 other people in the comic are such novices that they can’t tell the difference between the browsers, but instinctively are repelled by something “new.” Hell, the sister didn’t even notice the change in graphics from C to IE to question the change. Moral: some people need change for their own good even if it takes some shenanigans.
But that’s missing the point entirely. If they were complaining about how slow it was and how unhappy they were with their browser it would be totally different. But they didn’t. After trying it, the sister found it difficult to use (maybe it was just a navigation issue) and wanted to go back to IE which she was happier with.
Freud Dude’s moral- Everyone should do what I think they should because I know better and what people find easiest as a matter of choice doesn’t matter because I said so.
BTW, this was written using Google Chrome- I just don’t think you should make choices for other people because it’s disrespectful and you should have better things to worry about then what browser is on another computer.
I used to use IE, simply out of laziness. But now with Windows 7, I hate how it seems to think that every tab is a new window.
“Let’s see, I’m going to switch back to my other…” *screen filled with a ton of little screenshots*
Firefox 4 was horrible. It crashed more than IE ever did. But now I use Chrome. I’d still use IE if it weren’t for that Windows 7 thing. I use the internet to check E-mail and facebook and all browsers do that equally well.
Also, after using Android browsers, I’ve redefined what it means to be a horrible browser.
All this cartoon proves is that most people don’t give a flying F@$k about which web browser they use. Most people have better things to worry about. It’s the content they are looking at that’s important, not the browser they are using.
Either way, the whole browser war thing is dumb. Unless you work for one of the browser companies there is no reason for the average smuck to be so uptight about which browser everyone ELSE uses. Just a stupid fanboy mentality.
From a developer’s point of view, Chrome > Firefox > IE9 > IE*, Chrome and Firefox have less quirks to deal with but for actual surfing… there’s little to no difference unless you’re using any version of IE other than IE9 (which is like screwing that corner ho without 2 layers of protection, just because everybody else used her doesn’t mean you should).
Our clients don’t use Opera or Safari so we don’t bother supporting them…
IE is the browser basically everyone gets- and by nature of indifference, managed massive market share. If someone already has the best, why put in extra work to switch? And yet IE has been hemorrhaging users over the years… from around 90% down to 35% or so- which includes all the people that have just kept IE because that’s all they know. Although it can’t be seen for sure without real research, it looks as if firefox users have been content with firefox, while IE users have jumped ship for Chrome. Maybe there’s more movement involved and firefox is losing and gaining at equal rates, but it really just seems as if people getting fed up with IE hassles switch to chrome for speed, simplicity and reliability, whereas people using firefox are happy enough and are too attached to their extensions to be happy using anything else.
I have to say it’s true for me. I tried to switch from FF to Chrome because a game I liked was lagging like hell on it, and in chrome…. it was like a sweet sweet dream (and my firefox was crashing badly, and often)
But in the end I went back to firefox because despite everything, my extensions worked way better there, ESPECIALLY my adblock.
Now FF seems to have come right, the crashing has gone away, and thanks to an extension that forces flash to low quality, the game is playable, just not that pretty. And you know what? I’m ok with that! Flash sucks speedwise on macs anyway, so it might as well look the part.
Some people “jump” to Chrome because it’s a sneek download with other Google products. The latest round of Google “security” measures drawing people into their all encompassing net will have people flocking to Firefox
wont it become crappy as hel the instant you NAME it internet explorer?
That’s why I’m sticking with DOSLYNX
I had to do something similar on my in-laws computer because they were used to clicking the icon for “Netzero”, not “Internet Explorer”.
My mom when I ask her which browser she’s using (during one of my many tech support calls from her) “Browser? I just click on the Internet and it opens.” So next time I was there I installed Chrome and named it “The Internet”
That is hilariously cute
My mom, too!!!! I’m like, REALLY….do you NOT know the difference between Chrome, IE and Firefox? Actually, my aunt is worse, she calls it Foxfire. And my stepdad calls it Google’s. Even better, he says Googles doesn’t work. Mmmmmmkay.
Been there, done that. It’s highly effective
^^^ This! I cannot tell you how many times I have had to do this to keep the peace.
God dammit, failblog! What’s with alle that IE hate recently? Are you guys still stuck in 2003 or something? That’s just childish. More of this crap and I’m unsubscribing…
Later.
I’m sorry about your poor taste in browsers.
Goodbye, then.
“Recently”? There’s been IE hate since the dawn of Windows. At least I’ve always tried to get away from it.
No there hasn’t… IE4 kicked Netscape’s ass at the time!
How??? Was your brain functioning correctly at the time???
IE was browsing gold because it was free. Then came all the other free browsers.
“Then came all the other free browsers” Erm, IE was pre-dated for years by free browsers.

See ya!

you only have to reinstall the OS if you don’t know how to fix it through add/remove programs…
Thanks for the good laugh. I haven’t laughed that much in a while…
LOL I don’t know what’s funnier, the fact that you’re so pissed or that you think IE is better. It’s a tossup.
What I should have said:
“Later.
Written using Google Chrome because Microsoft Internet Explorer sucks.”
L’esprit de l’escalier.
Or you could put a portable version on a flash drive and use your own browser, with your own favorites, on (almost) any computer.
Or buy your own machine and let people do what they want with theirs.
If they didn’t notice as claimed in the computer, then they were too stupid to not know they weren’t doing what they want. Kinda like most people who go to the polls and vote democrap or repuglican.
as claimed in the *post
dunno why i said computer there
herp derp
Who is Their? You said you would install it on Their’s. A cousin?

You tried Firefox on a mac? I never have websites display incorrectly. Maybe a handful of times in 7 years of using it.
To clarify: I use Firefox on Windows. On mac it seems to have more some issues.
IE tab. and try chrome insstead. or maxthon
brilliant.
I’ve done this many times myself.
Google Chrome never worked for me. It kept crashing.
So I went back to Firefox.
Opera for the win.
Although, I still use IE for Facebook, and for some reason it *thinks* it’s Google Chrome.
whats a bigger fail, the cartoon or the fact you actually think chrome is good.
its better than IE
That’s not saying much.

but alternative browsers will always be better because they have to be in order to stay alive. IE couls never update again and still be top dog.
Until you visit a website that uses ActiveX, then you can pretty m=uch wave goodbye to IE and your computer running well.
