Not all Churches of Christ are bad. There are ones that don’t think they’re the only ones right with God and going to heaven. But the Church of Christ in this example is an INTERNATIONAL Church of Christ. They’re truly cultic because they believe you have to have someone in your life (a “discipling partner”) to help lead you and guide you in order to be right with God and go to heaven (among other things). I grew up in the CoC, and I can say the parent was correct. It’s more cultish than most Protestant branches of Christianity- each congregation has it’s own little set of Fetishes regarding what should and should not be allowed to happen during their services.
As for whether they are “worse than” the Catholic church, that’s a matter of opinion. As for being “evil”, well if we go by the definitions in the Bible I would say yes they most certainly are… but then again so is pretty much any other organized Church.
Actually, it’s part of the “International” Church of Christ (aka ICOC), which is an offshoot of the Church of Christ. But because googling ICOC reveals its cult-like tendancies, they’ve taken to dropping the “international” part of their name so people will confuse them with the regular Church of Christ.
