  1. AllGreatAllTheTime says:

You’ll be safe in this great fireproof corner…

    • Cody, Leader of the Llama Spring Brigade says:

That’sssss a very nice Display Picture you have there…
Does your fireproof corner protect you from perhaps explosions of a great scale?

  2. Oz says:

You people may laugh, but in a couple decades you’ll be able to safely jump to the tree. Thi way there’s no need to spend money completing the fire escape.

  3. se329 says:

If they had put a sign that said “TO BE CONTINUED” then it would have been a WIN!

  4. qwertz says:

It’s Europe. We invented bricks and fireproof doors so we don’t need outdoor fire stairs – we have them inside building.

  5. kakrohn says:

Some places don’t require a fire escape to go all the way to the ground. They probably consider a jump from that distance to be survivable.

    • Lindsay says:

What do you mean survivable? Thats how they warm up their legs in the morning with a nice 20 ft drop to the ground. Nothing gets the blood flowing like…

      • Chris M. says:

See that landing at the bottom? I’m reasonably certain that it’s actually a spring loaded steps that unfold down under your weight. Climb down those and, well, it’s still a bit more of a drop than I like, but not totally unreasonable. This is a very common design for external fire escapes, to prevent burglars from climbing *up* them.

        • Chris M. says:

Actually, on second thought, the landing probably not only folds down but has an telescoping ladder that extends when you put your weight on it. So you only jump a couple of a feet or so. Easy.

  6. IHateFridays says:

Europeans are too cool to have safe fire escapes

  7. Jojo says:

    Yeah that’s clearly a fire escape. >.<

  8. brandon says:

well jumping is faster and cheaper then going down the stairs…

  9. Jacob says:

Ugh, fail to realize this is not a fire escape fail. this is a stupid and pointless architectural feature fail.

  10. Cpt. Blade says:

I have this feeling their fire emergency plan goes something like this: “in case of fire… you shall burn in hell!”.

  11. Jay says:

Such a classy spiral staircase… Why is it on the outside of the house, and why doesn’t it go anywhere? That’s the fail here.

Spiral staircases can’t be fire escapes! That’s blasphemy!

  12. Cory says:

I’m pretty sure that theres a door at the bottom that this photo makes impossible to see.

  13. eleanor says:

doesn’t fire escapes cover all floors not just the last one? I think that is a great balcony.

  14. Bernie says:

    That’s a bada$$ place to smoke weed.

  15. Doomy says:

It’d be a good zombie sniping position.

  16. Rajish says:

all of you fail at figuring out what this is.

its an entrance to a ninjas apartment.

  17. Murdoc says:

    I don’t think it’s a fire escape.

  18. Hun says:

    the for trowing people down

  19. :V says:

    Jump!

    JUST DO IT.

  20. poophead says:

sad thing is i live there but i usely just jump of it its fun and safe if you just land on your feet and not dive of it

  21. LeeP says:

Pffft. It’s the set for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi reboot of “Fiddler on The Roof”:
“I’d have one long staircase just going up, another even longer coming down, and one that’s leading nowhere just for show…”

  22. Graey says:

Who says this is even a fire escape? Maybe it’s just an odd way to move between the fourth floor balcony and the third floor.

  23. DaniellaLioncourt says:

    they runned out of money

  24. M says:

    NO FAIL.

This is the second escape way. The ladders of the fire fighters are long enough to reach this stair.
That way it more difficult for burglars than a complete stair…

  25. Guileastes says:

LOL that fire escape is so obviously made to feature in a Jason Bourne film.

  26. nick says:

    thats awesome! WIN not FAIL

  27. Raven says:

Wow. Mass commenter fail. How does no one notice there is a section that drops down to complete it?

  28. Quill says:

Oz, you said in a couple of decades you’d be able to jump to the tree? Think a little further. In about three decades, you can build a tree house, and the stairs will give you access to your new home extension!

  29. Bommelfisch says:

This is no Fail, it is the Second Escape Way.
The balcony is too high, the fire fighters can’t reach it with the normal ladder. Maybe there is not enough space for the turntable ladder, so they had to reduce the high where people can wait for the fire fighters.

  30. dbp says:

    yep……

  31. Piper says:

I’m reading World War Z right now so I would call this a Zombie defense win.

  32. ThereIsBearCum says:

Not a fire escape, fire escapes cannot be spiral staircases. It’s just a pointless staircase to a really small balcony.

    • Bommelfisch says:

They can, as a second escape way in buildings, where the 2nd escape way could a be a window, waiting for the fire fighters. In that case, the 2nd escape way can be a spiral staircase. Well, so it is in regions of Germany.

  33. Raxz says:

This became more and more a fail as I scrolled down and realized just how far of a drop it was XD

  34. Jono says:

Well either you use the drain pipe on the side of the building OR you use the stairs for exercise?

  35. kitty says:

You have to jump the rest of the way

  36. Nic says:

Is the fail here failblog, or failblog posters?

  37. Thisisjustme says:

Yeah….the owner of this building fears the there is going to be a zombie outbreak and think they might use the emergency staircase to break into the building so…..yeah….

  38. GrimmKull says:

They needed a place to put a blue portal from the ground.
