The Fail is that, because he got a yellow card, he can’t be banished. That may only occur to those who were redcarded, and to those whose foul totally escaped the refreee. Absurd, isn’t it ?
of course he was going for the ball, what else would he’d been after? the other player probably was just reckless trying to hit the ball with his head. that you don’t do in soccer, right?
it was a Belgian competition match between standard (red) and genk (blue). He got a yellow card for the kick, because it probably was unintentional. The other guy survived, although he has several missing teeth, a broken jaw bone, a broken eye socket and a broken cheekbone. Genk won the game and first place in the Belgian League.
Just a yellow? Definitely a red if not a suspension. This was quite obviously a dangerous play which involved carelessness and excessive force – the definition of a dangerous play.
i’m gonna have to call FAIL (old.) on the caption, implying that this guy died. why would you caption that somebody isn’t alive anymore when they’re still alive?
Nope, he had a broken nose, his jaw was dislocated and broken in 2 places, and he had a heavy concussion. He’s currently getting better in the hospital and is conscious.
Blue-shirt also should have received a yellow for simulation. Falls on ground, make it seem like he hurt his head or something. What a disgrace to football.
It had to be a red card, the guy in red, Carcella, was unconscious and needed cardiac massage, he swallowed he’s tongue and his cheek and nose were broken and he lost 5 teeth. Personally I don’t think it’s funny…
You do realize it is, in fact, physically impossible to swallow your tongue right?
And cards aren’t given out for severity of consequence – they’re given for the original foul. In this case the foul was “high feet” – playing a ball above waist height where there is a chance of hitting another player. Unless the studs (cleats) are showing, it’s a yellow card, not a red.
The injured guy ( Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez) is at the hospital with a broken nose, misplaced jaw, and some broken bones in the face. He didn’t deserve that and although it was unintentional, he should have got a damn red card!! STANDARD DE LIEGE rules.
This is one of the worst fouls and I see people laughing about this. Genk should have continued with 10 men and shouldn’t have drawn the game which gave them the title and not Standard on this 40th and final match day.
Hopefully Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez recovers soon and no more Americans may post barbaric things on this site. It’s an absolute disgrace.
‘…and no more Americans may post barbaric things on this site. It’s an absolute disgrace.’
Lets hope he recovers soon, yes. Not all Americans find this is funny. Myself being one of them. However, failblog is full of barbaric things. We Americans do not post all of them.
I think you aren’t being objective here.. The blue guy had absolutely no intention of kicking him in the face, yellow was the best choice, you can’t judge a foul by how bad the other guy is injured.. serious injuries can happen by just accidently tripping a guy while sprinting to get the ball.. Look i’m not saying it was the right choice to try and kick the ball away, but if you step out on the pitch, you know s**t like this can happen without the opponent wanting it to happen..
at the live in Liege, 45 000 people thought at the same time “hloy s**t, he’s dead”,as his teammates burst into tears. That was the greatest f**king silence I ever heard… and that was real no fun
Yellow (or even nothing) was definitely fine. Foul play is when a move’s obviously wrong, but in this case, his opponent’s move resulted in the kick to the head. If his opponent didn’t headbutt at the exact same time, the kick would’ve been 100% fine. It’s a very unfortunate turn of events, but that’s all.
Although his injuries are severe, acting because of that is acting because of your emotions. A good judge doesn’t do that, but rather looks objectively at what happened and why.
Americans talking about football is the biggest fail here. ‘Definite red if not a suspension’??? You have no idea what you’re talking about. If he tried to kick his head or it was a high foot then maybe. If it was a legitimate attempt for the ball at a reasonable height, then it’s not a foul at all, just unfortunate.
Sorry to contradict you, but a tackle which doesn’t get the ball and is dangerous means red card. The faxct that it happens in the air doesn’t change anything.
Or at least that’s what they taught me at the umpiring school.
I’d rather call the headbutter reckless. He knew the risks that the other player would also go for the ball, yet went for it even with a vulnerable bodypart. It would’ve been another thing if the kicker hit the other’s body, but instead he hit a bodypart that shouldn’t have been at that spot at all! Unlike a kick that would’ve forced the other player to evade (THAT is dangerous play), this was a 100% legitimate kick.
this is pretty funny to me. i was kicked in the face like this with a broken jaw and eye socket and i laughed it off though. i kinda get to laugh at this. most people don’t. and come on guys, its not just americans laughing at this, its just a large number of them.
What a great kick in the head!
booed to the head!
… which is greater than a soccer punch!
You’re right — this punch was spiked!
Another great movie by Mr. Lee?
yeah … and that one’s gonna leave a Bruce.
Wow, until I Entered it, this conversation was really Dragon on.
*sees fuzz with his Fists of Furry and decides to leave*
a Cat-o ≠ a furry !!
Wait till you see my great martial art skills. Ju-do know what hit you, manj.
Well, it won’t be my vehicle, that’s for sure. My karate mechanic right now.
You still driving that great little Mazda Miyagi?
I am, as a matter of fact. Muay Thai interest you in a quiet drive through the countryside?
the man in red almost died
That’s how we do it Belgian style XD
actualy its not funny that player almost died
Steven Seagal must be training him.
you mean chuck norris. seagal mostly uses his hands.
damn

That hurt just to see!
I dunno. Looks like he was going for the ball, which had a bit of spin to it.
he really was, the other dude hit the ball with his head, where the ball would have ended up.
of course he was going for the ball, what else would he’d been after? the other player probably was just reckless trying to hit the ball with his head. that you don’t do in soccer, right?
you two fail simple soccer rules.
Did he die?
who cares
No but he had bruises and a lot of broken bones and stuff in his face, he also had a severe concussion
Note to self: When next you find yourself on a soccer field, keep on the look out for low flying footballers.

and they say that soccer is a non contact sport

At least now a soccer player has a real reason to claim injury.
POW right in the kisser!

The Honeymooners FFS
He was just going for the ball. Lame fail is lame.
Every lawyers wet dream…

Agreed, the headbutter made a way too dangerous play by swapping the ball with his head, a place where his opponent would obviously kick.
Boom… HEADSHOT!!!
He’s faking! No foul!

this looks like a WIN
A win?
Footballers deserve a good kicking

i swear ref i really wanted to kick the ball, the head jumped in front of my foot on purpose !!!
Blijkbaar werd het oude (?) strijdlied “Racing maakt je dood” iets te letterlijk genomen.

This is from the portuguese league (primeira liga portuguesa)(my country) and the referee didnt give a card or even marked a foul… XD
Well, as they say, “Friendship ends where work begins”
Reminds me of this insaneness from Bruce Bowen (dirtiest NBA player evah!!!!)

Second biggest fail is the title. Sportsmanship? What’s that got to do with it? It’s hardly like he meant to kick him in the head.
Uhh… Maybe the fact that he tripped his opponent.
