  1. Chaosdada says:

Yes, overcoming the horrible burden of faith is very hard.

    • TooMuchSugarCoatedCheese says:

Whilst I agree Faith is a burden the world could do without, this is not a Fail. Twats who find this funny have as much sence of humor as Family Guy, which is nil.

      • ClariPossum says:

As a Christian myself, I do find it as kind of a fail. I understand what it means, but the wording could definitely be better.

        • Gert the Great says:

I agree and Family guy is pretty funny most of the time actually.

Then again, I don’t take most of life very seriously and certianly not cartoons.

          • AllGreatAllTheTime says:

            The real fail is religion.

            • UltraSith says:

AllGreatAllTheTime…. Ive seen many of your comments… I think this is the first one ive ever seen that you do not say the word “great”…This is not so great for you as you have finally had your own personal “FAIL”…. And to the operators of this fail of a website… New material that are “Fails” and “Wins”, are whats going to keep your audiences attention captivated.. Not the reposting of old stuff… And for Pete’s sake(sorry pete, whoever you are) please caption properly… ive seen several fails that should have been wins and vice versa… Yours Truly,

      • Buck says:

I have to disagree with you on both of your points. Faith is what you make of it and it’s only a burden if you make it so. Also, Family Guy is generally quite hilarious.

        • Mouse says:

No one has any sence of humor. “Sence” is not a word.

          Just my two cents.
        • ethana2 says:

I think there are some faiths where it’s impossible not to make it a burden if you interpret the book to mean what it actually says.

Reality isn’t “what you make of it.” Faith wasn’t that way for me to be sure.

My lack of faith isn’t that way for me either.

      • DuffMan says:

OMG! I’m not alone when not comes to Family Guy being lame.

    • Smurf-a-Rific says:

lol you people are missing the point. It’s meant to be called the Overcoming Faith Christian center, but also can be read as the “Overcoming Christian Faith center” which has an entirely different implication.

  2. TooMuchSugarCoatedCheese says:

HOW IS THAT A FAIL!? It’s just the name of a Christian Centre. Who is uploading this utter crap? Fails should be funny atleast if nothing else. Who ever laughs at this is a complete twerp. How is this a Fail?

  3. Praz says:

I believe in this case, “Overcoming” is being used as an adjective and not a verb – in which case, this is not a fail.

    • Elana says:

I don’t understand how they would expect people not to think of it as a verb first. That is a complete fail.

      • Trainwreck Chaser says:

Because not everyone thinks of the word cumming when they see coming…..

        • wasabio says:

no, you misunderstand, we’re seeing it as overcoming to mean getting over faith, as the wording suggests, and not as in overwhelmed by faith. “overcoming” does not mean “to be overcome BY sth”. i can only hope this is engrish or a shop.

    • ClariPossum says:

True. But since it can be taken both ways, they should have found some synonym to make it more clear. Maybe “Triumphant Faith” or something like that. :)

  4. Avis the Great! says:

Must be where the meetings for “Adult Children of Dogmatic Lutherans” are held.

  5. Bud says:

As a Christian, this is hilarious.

  6. Julian says:

Well, if you need that many explanations on whether it is a fail or not maybe it´s not even worth wondering.

  7. EEE says:

I live near this church and I often tell my husband I find it mildly humorous. He, however, does not.

  8. Brad says:

Because if you overcome (verb) faith, why would you need a church? I think it’s hilarious.

    -Brad, an Agnostic

  9. Nuck Chorris says:

Nice.Reminds me at South Park. :D

  10. Ugur Ister says:

    Nice one.

  11. Steph says:

I live like 10 minutes away from this. It’s name is an unfortunate funny.

  12. Jellie says:

Wouldn’t it be a fail on our perverted minds rather than the church? I mean, I’m sure the church was named like that on purpose with “Overcoming” intended to be an adjective…

  13. nobodeenoes says:

Looks like an oxymoron win to me. :D

  14. JKM says:

Ok. I used to live about 5 minutes from this church and watched as it was built. I grew up in the church and am still a faithful Christian and I was able to find humor in this. As soon as people found out what the name of this church was going to be…the entire community (majority religious)…thought it was a little off. I drive by it every time I go to my parents’ house. I still laugh every single time!!!

  15. lol says:

I’d rather be Coming Over Faith….

  16. Flerp says:

I don’t get it, how is this a FAIL?
Overcoming Faith would be a totally awesome place.

  17. ThorGoLucky says:

    Medical science over faith FTW!

  18. anoninonicon says:

    Let’s overcome faith together!

  19. silexmt says:

    We shall overcome!
    - Martin Luther Dawking

  20. sam says:

The real fail is that it’s photoshopped.

  21. evildave says:

WIN: Making more religious nutjobs freak out over nothing. Hilarious.

  22. rhythminblue says:

Yeah, I pass this church on my way to to work every day.

My husband and I both think it’s ridiculous and hilarious!

    • Austin says:

      I pass this fairly often.
It’s on Hwy 287 just south of Ft Worth.
My father and I always get a laugh at the poor word choice.

  23. Laura says:

Why is this a fail? Actually, I think it’s a win… But then again, I’m European.

  24. Not a fail, not even a little bit, not even at all.

“And this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.” Hence, faith that overcomes is “overcoming faith.” And most (not all, but most) “Christian Center” churches are Charismatic in doctrine and style, and in many cases are what you might call “Word of Faith” or “Prosperity Gospel” churches.

    • Gert the Great says:

That would be OK IF it were worded better. As it is read as an adjective and not as a verb due to MOST American’s basic language and grammar skills, it just looks silly.

So yes, a fail. Just because it’s religious doesn’t make it exempt from being mocked.

If that were the case people would stop blaming the entire Catholic church for a couple of pedophiles when you hear about more of them in schools which specialize in caring for kids daily as opposed to the limited contact the average priest has with children.

The name of your church shouldn’t make most people giggle.

      • No, this makes the American populace at large failures, for not understanding grammar and proper word usage.

The word is used correctly here, in the same way you might use the verb “leading” as an adjective to describe something, as in “Our soap works better than the leading brand.”

Or, as another example, take the verb “striking.” It can also be an adjective, as in the “striking edge” of a cymbal.

It has nothing to do with being religious at all. It has everything to do with knowing how to use language properly.

        • Gert the Great says:

I think you are trying too hard. There is also a bit of a difference between ‘Lets go help my uncle Jack off a horse’ and lets go help my uncle Jack, off a horse’.

Now I don’t know about you but the comma isn’t REALLY necessary except that whole meaning of the sentence changes without it thing.

Americans understand their language just fine. We, after all, have modified it to our specific tastes.

I get it that it did not amuse you. It’s still a fail. Sorry.

  25. anonymous dude over here says:

Hey thats where St. Paul is at! we played em in football

  26. Wizardling says:

Shouldn’t it be ‘Overcoming Reality’? :-D

  27. Hailey says:

i pass this “church” every time I drive home. i laugh at the name all time time. I would never want to go to a church that has that name

  28. Uranium-235 says:

    oommmygoood

thats in mansfield, tx off 287. I used to drive by that place every day on the way to work. I ALWAYS thought that was such a wierd name

  29. Pete says:

I’ve heard from friends in the community that the church has been asking people about new names to get feedback. Apparently they’re planning on changing it. One friend was asked what he thought about “Champion Church.” The word is while they meant overcoming to describe a type of faith, they do understand some people think it means that they believe in overcoming faith not a faith that overcomes. So apparently they are thinking about a change.
