» 50 Failures in Communication

  1. Skyman724 says:

How can ANYONE function with a BAC of 0.29? That is ridiculous…….

  2. Avis says:

Drunk dialing the cops, smooth move!

  3. dead end shot says:

what a waste of tax dollars, sending out an officer to assist with the recovery of a phone.

  4. samuel says:

I live in Jackson and read this in our newspaper today. Pretty funny to see it on here.

  5. Oceanwave says:

I suspect that many functional alcoholics can function at that level. It explains many things, like Parliament, Congress, The Senate, Television.

  6. xfactotumx says:

I thought BAC was measured in “per mille” and not “percent”. wouldn’t 0,29% kinda kill you? wouldn’t that be the bigger fail?

    • Avis says:

      Blood Alcohol Content?

      • xfactotumx says:

yeah I think, I’m Swedish so I might have gotten that wrong ;D. the headline states he had a BAC of 0,29% so either he’s Iron Mans’ secret brother Iron Liver or somethings f-ed up :/

    • PirateJohn says:

0.29% can indeed be fatal to quite a lot of people. If someone is still conscious at 0.29%, then they seriously need some help to quit drinking.

The breath tests measure as high as 0.40%, but some people who manage to remain conscious and standing exceed even that much. It’s very rare, but it happens.

    • understandsmath says:

0.29% is actually less than a third of a percent. What they meant to say is just 0.29 which is a significantly high BAC. And yes, a BAC of 0.29 can kill you. It depends on the person really.

      • Brian-M says:

They don’t mean to say “just 0.29″. BAC is measured as a percent. When they wrote 0.29 percent, they meant 0.29 percent. Sure, it may be less than one third of a percent, but that much alcohol in your blood is still dangerously high.

        • xfactotumx says:

ok, now I’m on board…I miscalculated and got it to 29 per mille. 2,9 per mille could be lethal but isn’t exactly comparable with 29 :D

    • anonymous says:

0,29% would not only kill you but also ensure that you stay preserved for future generations to study your fail.
I read about a guy that “won” a darwin award that way.

      Most likely they mean 0,29%%.

      • Voij says:

That would be 0.029 per mille…
        0.29% is 0.29 hundredth, or 0.0029, or 2.9‰.
        0.29%% is one-hundredth of 0.29 hundredth, or 0.0029%, or 0.029‰.
That’s about as much as you’d get from eating a praline with liquor in it…

  7. Mike says:

0.29%? Why did they bother to mess with him? He was practically sober!

  8. Me says:

Hepl! I caannnot ffind teh aad commment btuuon

  9. Synopt says:

This has to be a mistake.
90% of all human beings get unconscious by 0.05% (5 per mil)
    You die at around 0.12%
The world records (conscious human being) is around 0.09% (I think it was 8.8 per mil).
    0.29% is definitely not possible.

    • Wasp says:

Well 0,05% is like almost 1 beer. Guess 90% of all human beings is pretty weak then.

    • Me says:

Is it just me or are some people here really that stupid? Blood alcohol levels are measured in percentages. The .xx is the percentage of alcohol in the blood… if you’re at .29 then it’s 29%, not .29%.

Also, to the idiot saying that people die at .09% (I believe this is you I’m replying to) – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_alcohol_content

Wiki may not always be accurate, but .08 is legally intoxicated in MANY areas. Anything under that is legal. SO your bs about people dying at .09 is WRONG.

      • Voij says:

I believe this problem originates from a deep misunderstanding of what “percent” and “per mil” stand for. Some people seem to think that they’re scientific units, similar to kph/volt/etc.
Which then makes them unable to realise that:
        0.029=2.9%=29‰, or the like.

So yeah, I think it’s because many people can’t think logically and disliked math/science at school.

      • zu_dreist says:

Maybe some people are stupid here, but you’re also wrong if you say:
“Blood alcohol levels are measured in percentages.” That may be true in America. In Europe it is mostly measured in “pro mille” which translates to “per thousand”. I think this was the reason for some misunderstandings here like Voij also pointed out.

    • gurl says:

the limit for driving is .08 …you really think they’d make that the limit if 90% of people were already unconscious by that point?

    • Canaduck says:

      You are an idiot.

    • Nyaa-Chan says:

You’re wrong. Completely wrong… 0.88% would be 8.8g per 100 mil. The US national limit is 0.08% which is when you start feeling buzzed. 0.29% is highly possible, just have like 8 shots of whiskey if you’re a smaller person. I think that you are thinking of 2.9% being impossible because you might be right.

  10. Esprix says:

Wow, someone got drunk. That’s epic.

Actually, no, it’s not. What’s wrong with this site?

  11. Kittytrix says:

I recently knew of a guy who got his fifth DUI in SoCal with a BAC of .412!!! I always thought that would mean he would’ve been legally dead, but he was alive and crashed into a parked car half a block from his house.

  12. davidstarlingm says:

Wow, are there really THIS many people who don’t understand basic math?

Incredible fail to the writer of the article, too.

In the United States, the legal limit is 0.08% BAC by weight. In other words, for a given volume of blood, 0.08% of the weight is ethanol alcohol and 99.92% of the weight is plasma, red blood cells, etc.

Only 7% of the alcohol you drink ends up in your bloodstream. You cannot have a BAC of .412; that would mean that three or four tenths of your blood is literally pure alcohol. Since the average human has around 5 quarts of blood, you would have to drink 20 gallons of pure vodka in order to raise your BAC to 0.412. In contrast, you need to drink around a fifth of liquor to raise your BAC to 0.412 %.

  13. Hi there, I discovered your web site by the use of Google while searching for a similar subject, your web site got here up, it seems to be great. I’ve bookmarked to favourites|added to bookmarks.
