  1. JJ says:

    i dont get

  2. I’m not gonna pretend I get it. I’m dumb. Can I guess? The map is mislabeled?

  3. michael says:

I have a hard time believing this isn’t shopped.

  4. Avis says:

You’ve got to be kidding me!

  5. Donald says:

    Egypt fail?

  6. Lenn says:

I don’t get i… Egypt is supposed to be there?

  7. Amy says:

They put Egypt where Iraq is.

  8. sllim says:

You know, I had to look up a map to make sure. But Iraq is labeled as Egypt. I guess the fail is that a huge news corporation couldn’t be bothered to verify that their graphic is correct before running it. That being said, I don’t think Fox News is a real news channel.

    • commander epic says:

you fail if you had to look at a map
you fail again, Fox News does exist

      • Molly says:

I guess you should know where Egypt is but only because of all the news coverage about this region. But honestly I would also be thrown off to tell whether I was looking at Mali or Bukina Faso.

But a ‘news network’ should know. Exept of course if it is the advertising platform for the Republican Party.

        • Cynical-Vegemite says:

Do Americans not study Geography in primary and high school? No wonder your education levels have sunk so far below the rest the world. Geez I thought my country’s education system was lousy.

          • commander epic says:

actually we study geography in elementary, middle, and high school.
unfortunately, 20% of us gives the rest of us a bad name

            • GhotiStyx says:

I second that. It’s always the astonishing retards that get the attention. Don’t be distracted by shiny things or mistake Fails for the mode.

              • commander epic says:

there ARE smart and intelligent people in america. they just decide to do something with their lives instead of going into politics and/or newscasting.

                • Canadian Mail says:

Sugar Honey Iced Tarts – I am a Canadian and didn’t know what was wrong with the map at first either. It isn’t a “self-centered American” symptom. And my IQ is 170. I just can’t keep Geography straight.

            • parkcaka says:

i understand the 20/80 thing but c’mon man you are fighting there for the last 8 years, thousands of US soldiers died there for the last 8 years, infact this is your 2nd war there in the last 25 years, and still 20% don’t know where iraq is????????? you need to look at the map???

how can any US citizen who don’t even know where iraq is, can have a valid voting right in USA?

don’t get me wrong it’s not personal, infact i wrote this to you since you seemed to be the guy that can understand what I want to say.

              • Scolarly says:

I must clarify. The US hasn’t had a war since WWII. There is no official declaration of war for this, Desert Storm, and Vietnam. So, they are technically conflicts.

I apologize but I must correct this. I hate it when people avoid studying a topic they proceed to argue.

                • Scholarly says:

And yes, I spelled Scholarly wrong. I didn’t notice my spelling error until I had already clicked Add Comment. It should be rectified at the moment.

                • NeenerNeenerNeener says:

A “war” by any other name is still a bunch of people in funny clothes bombing and shooting each other. Get a grip. The “Vietnam War” is called such because it was a war. Tanks and planes and machine guns in helicopters, artillary, snipers – that’s WAR. And you can shove your semantics

                • 4ndy says:

Right, when US get their ass kicked it’s conflict, when they don’t, it’s war.

          • ClariPossum says:

Yes we do, but can we be expected to remember where EVERY single country is? Most of us don’t have a great need to know the exact layout of the middle east so we don’t necessarily recognize the fail right away. It’s simply that we’ve forgotten a few things since we learned them.

            • JubJubs says:

No, but you can be expected to remember that the one next door to Iran is Iraq, since there’s been a war on there for some time now… and it’s not like Egypt is a new state, or unimportant historically. Or even on the same continent as Iraq.

          • Jenneh says:

I’m American and I knew immediately what was wrong with the map. And I only just woke up, too. :D

        • steven lourie says:

and all the other major networks r advertising for the democratic party. news flash, all news is biased! no news station can air every story, so news stations air the ones that make their party look good. Fox happens to be the only conservative news station.

      • skwirel says:

Sllim wasn’t disputing if Fox News exists, but whether its a factual news channel, or stuff they improv to make them and the right sound better.

    • cee_ker says:

..it’s good you ck’ed maps, but there’s something of a Fail in the fact you had to confirm where Egypt was..relying on supposed “news” sources (especially in the Interwebz age) is an at-your-own-risk proposition..

    • Lytrigian says:

You had to look at a map.

Sorry, that’s a total, utter fail.

  9. PraetorianXVIII says:

wow some people are idiots. And this has to be shopped.

    • Lytrigian says:

I think the fact that so many people in this thread don’t see what the problem is, is strong support for the possibility that it’s *not* shopped.

Do you have any reason for thinking it is, other than the obviousness of the error?

  10. agentmes says:

For all the people who don’t get it, here’s a map of the middle east.
    http://ddc.aub.edu.lb/projects/archaeology/berytus44/maps/Middle_East98.jpg

  11. Beefcake says:

Oh middle east? I thought you said middle earth.

  12. WTF says:

Americans only know where USA is…….

  13. Morten says:

Egypt is in Iraq? This spells trouble :)

  14. JES says:

It wasn’t shopped… FOX news had it on TV this weekend. Iraq is suppose to be where Egypt is labeled. Egypt is in the north east corner of Africa.

    • Justice says:

Um… being a “Classic” fail, this is an old screen cap. Stop making up stories JES.

      • Skyman724 says:

        You showed him………
JES, this classic was dug up from the archives because of it’s relevance to the riots in Egypt. It was not made because of them. Just look at the caption.

  15. asdfadfa says:

    Fox is always a FAIL

  16. Avis says:

Well this fail certainly seems to be the popular one!
How many people will say THE SAME DAMNED THING?

  17. kim says:

Actually, Egypt isn’t even part of the middle east.

    • Down South says:

There are different definitions of the “Middle East”, but traditionally it includes all nations from Egypt in the west to Iran in the east, and from Turkey in the north to the Arabian peninsula in the south.

  18. Wakawaka says:

oooh, i thought that Egypt is under Mexico :(

  19. Skyman724 says:

All Iraq’s Base Are Belong To Egypt
    Iraq FAIL – Egypt WIN

  20. Hyndan says:

And you guys went to war over there.

  21. xiaoxiao says:

Fox news is more reliable then cnn or any other liberal news channel. WAIT! I guess that would be all of them :p

    • Skyman724 says:

      ZING!

    • Justice says:

Actually, Fox News boasts every now and then about independent watch dog groups saying their news coverage is the least slanted of the major networks.

COMMENTARY folks. Complaining about Hannity and Beck has no teeth because you’d never complain about Olbermann (fired! ha ha) and Maddow. And Chris Matthews who has a chubby for Obama,

      • Lytrigian says:

Personally, I never complained about Olberman because I only ever watched him when he was slamming Bill O’Reilly, and he was always correct when he did that. That’s because I don’t watch TV of any kind, so I only see these things when someone posts them to YouTube or something.

Hannity was an idiot on the radio. I don’t expect he’s any better on TV.

      • The-Mogul says:

Er… are these “independent” watchdogs also owned by Murdoch and friends? Simply because outside of the US we hear few complaints about your other news networks but Faux News is considered a laughing stock. I’ve never seen a Fox report referenced on a serious current affairs show outside America but plenty of times on comedy shows who rarely even comment on the clip but just let the craziness speak for itself.

Recently there were riots in London. Fox picked up footage of the riots but not any of the interviews or vox pops etc. The reason why became clear when they used the footage claiming that the riot was against “taxes and big government” and that it showed that the English agreed with Fox’s stance against Obama style politics. Which was bollocks. The riots were about the raising of school fees and they were aimed at the British Conservative Party.

      • Bhazor says:

“Actually, Fox News boasts every now and then about independent watch dog groups saying their news coverage is the least slanted of the major networks.”

Have you read the actual study? It was a very limited sample of 1,151 respondents with only 14% of respondents labeled as Liberal compared to 39% labeled as Conservative and 47% labeled as moderate.

“49% of Americans say they trust Fox News to 37% who disagree. Predictably there is a large party split on this with 74% of Republicans but only 30% of Democrats saying they trust the right leaning network.”

From “Fox the most trusted name in news?” on PublicPolicyPolling(dot)com.

    • Cletis says:

Ah, the old “Liberal Media” myth! It just goes to show that (a) if you repeat something enough, people will believe it’s true, and (b) liberals are too stupid and wimpy to argue against this completely backwards mischaracterization of the media. (The news media are actually more conservative than the typical American.)

(Also, the word is “than,” not “then.”)

    • SwENSkE says:

Liberals at least know the difference between ‘then’ and ‘than’.
      *facepalm*

  22. commander epic says:

every day i log on and ask myself: ‘why do i come to this website?’
but now i know: it’s to make me feel better about myself reading all the stupid people’s stupid comments.

who knew that there were so many morons in the world

  23. Jen says:

No wonder Egypt is having so many problems… it’s actually Iraq!

  24. Rose says:

I was thinking with Egypt being the home to one of the seven wonders of the world (thats the Pyramids), the longest river in the world (just to clarify – that would be The Nile) and Sharm el-Sheikh (where everybody and their Granny now holidays), people might know it’s in Africa.

    I should stop thinking.

  25. Donsmutch says:

    There are probably munks

  26. BMoT says:

didnt expect something else from stupid americans lol

    • Bear says:

I guess you are not american, then? Can you locate without hesitation Idao, Utah and Wyoming on a map? Just so you know: Wisconsin has a higher GDP than Hungary, California has more inhabitants and a higher GDP than the UK. So stop thinking americans are all stupid and I am soooo clever.

  27. erb@erg.com says:

So you’re saying that Fox got something wrong?

    Why the hell you say!!

  28. eget says:

lol a lot of dumb americans here!
    Ever seen a world map???

    • Boulder says:

I think that most of citizens of whatever country don´t know geography…, not only americans

      (I am not from USA)

      • The-Mogul says:

Probably true. But most people should really at least know that Egypt is in Africa.

Misplacing a country is understandable. Putting it in the wrong continent, however, is ridiculous.

…especially if you’re a news network responsible for informing the public.

…and ESPECIALLY if you’re currently at war with the country you’ve replaced!

        • ClariPossum says:

Even so, Egypt is quite close to Israel, even if it is technically on a different continent. I hadn’t looked at a map of the area in a while so it took me a few minutes to figure it out, too. I’m not bad at geography per se, just not all that familiar with this particular area. For that matter, I can’t even place all of our own 50 states, and I live here!

          • Avis says:

Okay, I suck at geography…BUT… I knew that Egypt is not in the middle east. I could pick out Egypt on a map with no names. I could likely place both Cairo and Alexandria. Did I mention that I suck at geography!?

          • JubJubs says:

No, you are bad at geography.

          • spazztik says:

It doesn’t matter how good these people are at geography. They are a leading news network, and if they mislabel Iraq and call it Egypt, then there a lot of idiots runnng around FOX…..but we knew that already.

And for the record, if you can’t place the 50 states of the country you live in, then you are bad at geography.

            • ClariPossum says:

No, it’s just that it doesn’t matter enough to me to bother remembering where they all are. If I took the time to memorize them, then I could do it without much effort. Being “bad” at it would imply that I couldn’t do it even with effort.

I do expect a news station to know where things are, but I was mainly responding to comments calling people “stupid” who didn’t recognize this fail right away, because I think that’s just unfair.

        • Cletis says:

Well, while I personally think that Fox News is one of the most pernicious forces for evil on the planet, etc etc kill them all etc, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt here. Blatant typos and similar glorious mistakes in on-screen graphics are par for the course in the fast-paced world of cable news channels, and the fact that one person in the Fox News graphics department made a mistake when compiling that graphic and it made it onto the air without being caught really doesn’t surprise me. Nor does it make me believe that anyone at the channel thinks that Egypt is in Iraq, from Glenn Beck to Rupert Murdoch to the guy in graphics who actually screwed up.

But yeah, they are all evil and should die, etc etc etc.

    • Glitch says:

      so true

  29. Minnesota Guy says:

I Bet Michelle Bachmann helped them with this.

  30. CNE says:

This is like 2 1/2 years old. Was even on here http://failblog.org/2009/08/12/geography-fail-2/

This is my first post, I couldn’t not reply to this one.

  31. VBG says:

come on… it’s Fox. They’re supposed to be dumb.

  32. Dubious Bush says:

What do you expect from the network that gave us this?

O’REILLY: I’ll tell you why [religion's] not a scam, in my opinion: tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that.
SILVERMAN: Tide goes in, tide goes out?
O’REILLY: See, the water, the tide comes in and it goes out, Mr. Silverman. It always comes in, and always goes out. You can’t explain that.

    • The-Mogul says:

This would be hilarious if it wasn’t so depressing!

Mr Silverman does well not to rise to the bait and to remain calm after that barrage of gibberish thrown at him.

    • commander epic says:

that’s more of an insult to atheists than it is to Fox

    • emotive says:

“See, the water, the tide comes in and it goes out, Mr. Silverman. It always comes in, and always goes out. You can’t explain that.”

      haha
Umm the moon maybe? This made my day. Epic.

  33. dragonmago says:

I don’t know what horrified me the most: the blatant ignorance required to draw such an abomination of a political map or the throngs of people that didn’t see the problem.

    AMERICA, I AM DISSAPOINT.

  34. Nick says:

Anyone else notice Africa, where actual Egypt is, shows the border outlines of California, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona?

  35. Zod says:

So the fail is how easily people will believe anything negative about Fox News?

Not that they’re not garbage (as is all U.S. cable news), but given the rampant hatred of Fox News, I find this more likely to be shopped than anything else.

  36. Jerry Louise says:

Seriously? Every news channel makes mistakes. And yet I don’t see them up on the board.

    • Jenneh says:

Seriously? You’ve never ever seen another news channel fail in this entire blog?

You must not have been reading very long.

      • Ye says:

        I haven’t, ever. It’s always fox.

I don’t like fox anymore than the others, but this site really is slanted towards liberal. Just head on over to Pundit Kitchen and say “i have conservative views” and watch as you get torched to hell.

  37. Lil Jon says:

Was it shopped? Dunno. Did Media Matters run it incorrectly?
    http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200907270040

  38. MonkeyC says:

About as bad as Obama getting Iraq and afghanistan mixed up.

  39. If you’ve ever had anything bad to say about Egypt, say it now while their internet is still off.

  40. TJ says:

It’s fake but thanks for playing.

  41. motorboater says:

just another shopped image…ay fail…do you guys even examine the pics coming in…look at the pixels that are all stamped where “egypt” should be….

  42. kostas says:

    http://failbook.failblog.org/2011/01/31/funny-facebook-fails-staying-current/#comments

According to this guy Egypt is extinct (as well as Greece, Rome and Narnia(wtf?!?) so how could you all know where it was in the before time? eH? have you been studying archaeology or something?

  43. Fox just wants to stir up anger

  44. blueollie says:

The real question: would Sarah Palin know that there was a mistake? :)

  45. Nathan says:

    Nice photoshop.

  46. Obvious “shop” job. Note the difference in the color of land, also, the style of type!

  47. Turnips says:

Just wait, Fox is a comedy channel right?

  48. JeanLuc says:

    OMG…
Sorry guys… Are Americans really so dumb? :D

  49. keymanjim says:

How insanely stupid do you have to be to believe that a Photoshop from mediamatters was a real screen shot fro Fox News?
All the rest of the words are in black or dark grey, whereas the name “Egypt” is in dark brown and the “PT” are cut off.
Seriously, anyone that believed that this was real should put their computer back in the box it came in and take it back to the store. You are too stupid to own one.

    • Cletis says:

How typically stupid do you have to be to not see that this graphic is designed to be emphasizing Israel, Syria, Jordan, and Iran while de-emphasizing Iraq (er, Egypt?) and Saudi Arabia — because the highlighted countries were relevant to the news topic being covered that day, and the non-highlighted ones were not? And so the difference in font size, font color, and stylized drop shadows are intentional, and not a sign of ‘shopping?

  50. katie00 says:

I might have failed geography but at least I know where Egypt is.
I hope that makes you proud Dr. W (:

  51. Fjwjr says:

    Soooooooo, where’s the fail?

  52. Huh says:

    Well, I don’t get it.

    Is this about Moobella again?

    Why a map of yourasia?

  53. Wizardling says:

About what you’d expect from Fox.

  54. Cairo says:

Well, most americans cant even locate the USA in the world map, I don´t really blame them for ignoring where Egypt is.

    • Ye says:

I’d like you to back that up with evidence where a study was taken showing every single american a globe and pointing to the U.S. I can guarantee you almost every single one of us can locate the U.S. on a world map, i have NO clue where people always pull this from but it’s utter crap.

  55. Wrigs says:

I didn’t read the comments but this is fake. It was all over twitter pretty fast.

  56. cebuspoop says:

i’m too Secy for this fail

  57. Oceanwave says:

This is why I get my news from Stewart & Colbert!

  58. ARGHH!! Sorry POS network! God, I hate them! My ass can present the news better than them!

  59. Schlifey says:

if you believe this hasn’t been photoshopped, you’re clearly retarded. The fonts are different and the pixelation is different. Good try though.

  60. midlife says:

what made me laugh was the fact that IRAN is in BIG BOLD type, it’s like saying don’t worry about the smaller fonts guys IRAN is next..

  61. Haggis Hunter says:

Thats bloody shocking! Its shocking that the yanks think thats where egypt is but its even more shocking that they dont know where iraq is! I hope that all who were involved were given the boot!

    • midlife says:

i’m sure it’s shopped m8. If it isn’t it would explain friendly fire incidents. Oh U.K is that small island if you look east from NY guys, we are not IRAN or NK. thanks :D

  62. Bren says:

Wow. Multiple fails for those who can’t notice what’s wrong with the map in 0,5 seconds. Especially if they’re Americans – they of all people should have /some/ idea about the location of Iraq, if not Egypt. *snickers*

  63. So you’re saying that Fox got something wrong?

    Why the hell you say!!

  64. Terry says:

No one has noticed that Iran is Central Asia and not the middle east…

  65. lol says:

I’m really losing my hope to humanity when reading all those comments from grown-ups who don’t get this. I mean, here in Finland even every ten-year-old would know what’s wrong with that map :(

    Go usa!

It’s actually kind of scary that the one country with the biggest army is the one country with stupidest people…

  66. hauptmeister says:

Americans…proving that idiocracy is more than just a bad movie.

  67. hust says:

    not in southamerica?

  68. Rachel says:

It took me a bit, but I got it.

LOL. Stupid Fox News is stupid fail.

  69. Mike says:

Well considering that a large percentage of Americans consider a comedian to be a serious journalist, you can understand that society is pretty close to rock-bottom.

  70. failname says:

so they labeled iraq as egypt and they included iran in the middle east when its part of asia ..nothing new from the world’s #1 fail news channel

  71. Cletis says:

Which, you realize, is not necessary in order for the joke to work.

  72. Chad says:

Is this an actual image from a Fox News broadcast? I guess that having Sarah Palin on their team is finally starting to show its influence. And just think about the influence this has on kids! Then again, if they’re watching Fox News, it’s probably already too late.

  73. graphic department says:

So what? It’s just a simple graphic-department-error. And nobody in the workflow give it second look. That’s all folks!

  74. Floman says:

NO.it´s a freud-like fault. It shows how Fox is. They just don´t CARE and they have no clue!that is the problem!

  75. Joe says:

Almost as funny as rachel maddow running a story as satirical as something the the onion would publish as true, or chris matthews stating that the panama canal was located in egypt, or chuck schumer misstating the three branches of government (all of which happened within the last week). Good times.

  76. jc says:

If you’re reading this, we both need to get a life.

  77. Synne says:

    Only in America.
    Seriously.

  78. ed56 says:

Serves Fox right for hiring right brained graphics art interns! “But it looks prettier” Cetrtainly not geography majors

  79. M says:

the problem here is the world, too much complicated. it should be just the US and the rest water. maybe we can preserve australia because its pretty big an isolated so its easy to place in a map and yeah, they speak english, also its a vast continent full of nothing so we can fulfill it with some interesting things from the rest of the world like paris… wait, not necessary, we already did it in las vegas.

  80. LIckhole says:

HAHHAHHHA I get that’s a no brainer fox put egypt in the wrong place egypt is not part of the “middle east” EGYPT IS IN AFRICA hahahahaha

  81. Centaurus says:

FOX NEWS!!!! they fail epicly anytime

  82. Mr Bean says:

It seems egypt can do wat america couldnt.

    KICK IRAQS ASS!!!!
