Possible meaning of the last line: From the many dogs that died here, recover the dead dog that belongs to you and put it back in your vehicle.

Yup- Crooked River Gorge.
Been there myself, could see why it would happen to. My traveling Pooch, Moby, stayed in the cab over the truck.
I was there once sitting on the edge of the railroad bridge, and saw someone throw a ball over the edge and their dog followed it right off… It was a pretty sobering thing to witness.
What about the poor flying mustaches? Who will save them?

Dogs have trouble conceptualizing this. If they can’t see through to the other side of a barrier, they assume the landscape just continues on the other side, like a row of hedges on a lawn. They might jump over it, blissfully unaware of the possibility of a drop-off or cliff.
AHH, in this case, it’s a SIGN FAIL because dogs can’t read. I understand now.

Its The Overtoun Bridge Mystery. Seriously, dogs kill themselves here. And they’re not just jumping off the bridge to chase something, because the surviving dogs are known to swim to shore and jump off again.

That sign is off 97 in Central Oregon at the crooked river bridge. There is a low barrier, then grass then about a 300′ vertical drop. If a dog get even a little momentum and hits the edge they are dead. For most of it there is no warning at the edge of the drop (besides the low fence)
Why is this a fail? It’s a warning sign. I now know to not bring my dog there.

Its not chasing a stick over the wall, those are birds…. Not a fail in the slightest.
It happened to my sister-in-law’s dog. He was in the car and he jumped out of the window when they were parked close to a cliff. Well, that was the last time they parked their car close to a cliff.
Yes, the dog died. No, they could not retrieve it.
Ok , i brought my calculator and did some math , finally here’s the resault :
If the dog fails to catch the mustache within 0.034 seconds , it will fall and the straight “THING” will shove into its ass.
This is the main reason for this sign to be a FAIL
Here in Michigan there is a bridge far above the lake. Deer jump off when they see head lights. It’s a LONG fall to a steep slope that leads to the lake and turbines.
Huh? This seems to be a perfectly reasonable sign.
After reading some of the comments, I now understand that whoever thought this was a funny sign can’t tell a bird from a stick.

This isn’t meant to be a fail. Failblog has combined two categories into one, Oddly Specific and Fail and has dispensed with the separate Oddly Specific category.
It is a fail that people keep letting their dogs run wild and they think they are gonna come back.
Dogs do come back as long as the place they’re left to play is safe (and the dog is properly raised, but if it isn’t that’s another kind of fail) and some dangers aren’t obvious to humans. We wouldn’t jump that fence with our stereoscopic vision warning us of the drop, it’s not natural for us to think other animals won’t see it.
How can you ever be sure if you dog if properly raised? Then again, How can I be sure if you dog if properly raised. No fence = Fail

Yeah, Crooked River Bridge, I’ve been there many times. If you saw the cliff, you’d understand the need for the sign.
I’ve been there too! Why would you need to go there multiple times, though?
The first dog fell… that was an accident. Since then the dogs go there and go “BONES!!” and jump. Irreversible.

this site sometimes has “fails” that def arent fails. theres nothing wrong at all about this sign.
This is not a fail. I know a person who lost 2 of her dogs due to a similar accident. They were agility dogs, so they loved jumping and would jump over anything…
Perhaps the poster meant “FALL” not “Fail”
I have seen this sign. You can’t seethe cliff until you are right at the edge.
