  1. Daniel says:

Brazilian trolls are going to strike soon…

    • Brazilian troll says:

      Thank you for waiting.
      *ahem*

These are the moments where i feel completely embarrassed of being a brazilian, and one of the reasons i don’t live in there, the elections there are nothing but a joke, believe it or not this is not the worst guy i’ve seen trying to be a congressman

  2. Roxorlulz says:

    this is for real right?

  3. abc says:

yeah. i’m brazilian. there’s nothing more f*cked up in my country than politics. shame on us..

  4. booyah says:

He won the election fair and square, and the rest of the candidates are just miffed they lost to a clown despite their expensive campaigns and void promises. Now they are trying to have him thrown out despite what the people have voted and democracy be damned.

Honestly, I see this guy as a much better representative of the people than the average congressman — for starters, he comes from a non-privileged background and has held an honest job in his life, so perhaps he has some idea about what problems normal people have to deal with every day.

  5. Dont blame us..We did it for the lulz….

And there wasn’t any other better candidate…

  6. superevilgeniuswhowantstodestroytheworld says:

    worked for reagan

  7. davi says:

yeah, we are the “champions”… :(

  8. TB Tabby says:

This isn’t the first time something like this happened. Remember the rhino who got elected mayor of Sao Paulo?

  9. Tony says:

Wow….I wonder how many times Pee Wee Herman has won an election and “The Man” covered it up?

  10. Bappage says:

Though the irony that the story that suggests his reading and writing are not up to scratch uses the word ‘laugher’ in the first line is not lost on me…

  11. Tiago says:

Well, thats just newspaper talking cus
“Tiririca” or Grumpy has a Degree in Law School,
that is just a character he made 1 day to apear on TV and
    people love it.

    • Leosukita says:

Are you a moron? Tirirca can read a word, he probably paid to pass the examn and be elegible. better saying people paid to him, he represents powerfull candidates whom have been benefict with his votes above the average.

    • weed says:

“Tiririca” does NOT mean “grumpy”, this statement was the result of a poor research made by AP that spreaded worldwide. It is the name of a weed which is annoying and hard to get rid of. Check it out: http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyperus_rotundus

  12. El says:

Wait… being literate is a prerequisite for being a politician in Brazil? Maybe he should become a Fox News staffer instead… apparently their qualifications are much less stringent! We need to run clowns in the US, but it certainly wouldn’t be the first time there were Bozos in the congress.

  13. Protoss says:

People voted for him as a protest vote. But with the voting system, elected other 4 candidates. Now, we are the clowns and they are laughing at us.

    • Philip says:

Considering you’re surprised that voting for a certain party member might influence the election results of other party members, you do indeed deserve to get laughed at.

  14. captainnoble says:

Literacy tests for pols would be a good idea here in the US, I think.

  15. Breno Peck says:

How rude of you, saying things about someone you’ve never seen.

    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iWKJmnG8aT4/TMXs_LxXAeI/AAAAAAAAG24/Vpfpz6xBJ7I/s400/Tiririca.jpg

Here you go, now you can say anything about him.

  16. Eddy says:

    typical brazilian.

    fake and gay.

  17. matt says:

congratulations, paulistas! you people are awesome for doing such a “protest”! now, brazilian politics remain exactly the same, except that we have a clown in the Congress and we’re a joke for the other countries. things are much better now!

    • Sheik Yerbouti says:

Finally, a politician who admits he’s a clown.

      • Gert says:

I was thinking that too. Here in the USA, the congressmen and other politicians at least are openly honest about being clowns.

    • Paulista says:

Matt, don’t fall into this trap. Blaming Paulistas is just as stupid as blaming Nordestinos. There are idiots everywhere; in São Paulo, in Brazilian Northeast… Remember, Sarney family is still ruling in Maranhão. Alagoas keeps electing Collor (!) for whatever he runs for!
Hold your horses, man, or donkeys (no prejudice). :D

      • matt says:

  18. Don’t know what the big deal is. Here in British Columbia, we elect a clown every 4 years. The same one for the past 3 terms. I don’t see much difference with the U.S. either.

At least this bad ass Brazilian has the balls to come out and admit that he doesn’t know what he’s doing. From that point, it can only get better.

  19. Aha says:

We, people, are the real clown.

  20. Kkuo says:

I’ts true. His name is Tiririca and he wonned being the 2nd most voted here. I’m brazilian and I hate sometimes beeing it.

    • Eww says:

      Wonned?
      Beeing?
Seriously, do your English homework before posting feces such as this on English websites….
And for your information, I am Brazilian as well.
Proud to be a Grammar Nazi.

  21. Frank says:

People from São Paulo state are known for their really bad votes. Besides Tiririca, they also voted Serra, which is much, much worse.

    • Stwee says:

OOOh came on!!! do you really think Dilma will do better? the only thing she will do is please the poor…JUST that…ask her about economics..or foreign/internal debt/affairs….
also, at least serra has a political background…now…what dilma has? she wasnt even known one year ago…

way to go brazil!! way to go

      • angelicasant says:

do you think Serra would do a better job?
        Oh come on…
Rich people getting richer, and poor people getting poorer…

With Serra, things would be like this for SURE,
With Dilma at least we are not sure.
The reality is, non of them is good.
In this election we voted for the less awfull.

        • BR says:

You will stop saying this when you realize that you work 4 months each year just to hold who doens’t work at all… poor ppl needs jobs, education, no free cash for not working….

  22. Catflap says:

Why do we think clows are stupid? I met a clown once who struck me as being more intelligent and a lot wiser than most people. Although he tried to teach me to juggle so perhaps he wasn’t so smart.

  23. Brasileiro says:

It’s pretty sad to see a clown in congress, but nothing beats stupid Brazilians who bad mouth their own country when it needs them the most. What does it take, Mr Leno, to get Brazilians to pin a flag on their chest? Please, tell us.

    • Betina says:

why can’t I be embarrassed? I try and try but I can never find a single reason to be proud. carnaval, samba, rio de janeiro, the joy of being stupid and voting for someone like tiririca, it disgusts me and ashames me. so instead of trying to make the rest of the world like my country and saying it’s great, I say what I think: it’s s**tty. I want to get out of here as soon as I can, and, trust me, I’ll be way better off living in Europe, amazed by the beauty and history and people, and being ashamed of my origins than you, living here and luuuuvin’ the heat and the dirty people and streets and the awful and loud music.

      • zarpelao says:

Actually, this just proves that brazilian political system is extremly democratic and complex. Whats the problem of him being a clown? What should concern everybody is the fact that he may be ileterate.
He was elected. So what?Blame some dumbass electors not the entire population. Anyway that means nothing. He will have no active voice in the congress. We vote for candidates, but what really matters is the parties’ votes in congress. Which is ruled by the president in agreement with the parties’ leaders.

Its great to hear ppl that claim themselves “brazilians” talking bad about “their” country…”Brazil is carnaval, samba, loud music and dirty streets”..really? I guess they forgot to mention the monkeys as well…Morons
PS: The brazilian educational system is weak only for those lazy ppl who dont study enough to be admitted in the public higher educational programs

        • Elias says:

I’m not ashamed of being brazillian, but that doesn’t mean that electing Tiririca wasn’t stupid.

And about your “P.S”: If everyone would study really hard there wouldn’t as many spots to be filled in the advanced public educational system.

    • Brazilian troll says:

Well, brazil is filled with good people and smart people also, but it’s has been crawling with stupidity, don’t get me wrong, i love my country, and i aways tell my friends here in south korea about how nice it is, but when it comes to politics and some of our so called culture, i just don’t know where to hide my face, it’s so embarrassing that everytime i tell someone i’m a brazilian they end up making a coment about the brazilian carnival, with half naked women ( sometimes more than that ), so yeah, brazil is a nice country overall, but it still fails at politics, but you know what? which country doesn’t?

  24. Eduardo Londero says:

Many bad guys were not reelected, we can afford a clown, it´s cheaper than a corporate gangster.

  25. marcos says:

Education is not doing it these same things.
so I’m using a translator to write this!
    Brazil will

    dale Brasil

  26. Raoni says:

    Brazil is going down.

Dilma Roussef have conection with FARC the drugdealers of South America
Lula da Silva is friend of so many dictators in the world
Tiririca paid to pass at the literacy test

Soon well pass by a civil war to get back democracy

  27. theshoegazer says:

Now if we can pass this requirement in America, the Democrats would get their majority back.

  28. Aleph says:

Well… If it was a matter of protest voting, I would prefer to elect a clown who reads poorly than a Tea Party member with a Ivy League PhD degree…

  29. Victor says:

What worried me in these elections was the power that the Catholic Church had over the candidates, who were so afraid of losing votes they were pretty much forced to back pedal and change their views on human rights issues, such as abortion.

  30. MEMEMEME says:

    the cake is a lie…

  31. says:

Clowns in congress is hardly news.

  32. Peter says:

    Oh Yeah!
Obama doesn’t have a birth certificate but wages war on the world yet a Clown has to prove he can read and write.
Now: All a U.S. President does is sign things (stenographers and short hand secretairies do all the rest) U.S. Presidents only need to be able to sign their name and do what they’re told..
Blind people can’t read print…Deaf people can’t hear hours of political blame sharing, waffle and repartee. Both are capable of intelligent decisions.
Given the choice I think I’d go for the Clown as he is the least likely to have signed a pact with the devil.

  33. Marc says:

A clown that can’t read or right being elected for congress?

Sounds like something out of The Simpsons (Krusty the clown anyone?)

  34. piccoman says:

The problem is quite serious. The note states that 10 % of the population is iliterate, therefore those people are deprieved of their right to be elected. We should put aside the fact that this guy is a clown, and start taking this sort of discrimination more seriously. This kind of constitutional device (the literacy clause) is a reminder of the efforts made by Brazilian elites to prevent common people to get to power. Until mid 80′s iliterates were not allowed to even vote. Lula’s election (and terrific administrations) was just one step in a much longer journey.

    • Hi says:

How are we going to expect somebody to make good use of their power if they can’t read and write? Work on making that 10% of illiteracy a lower number, rather than changing political policies that avoid people who can’t read and write to make decisions on behalf of the population.

  35. noxMars says:

Brazillian here: Each country with the congress it deserves…

  36. Murilo Silva says:

Brazil, once more making headlines around the world. Being Brazilian is tough, you guys!

  37. angelicasant says:

The politic in our country is so ridiculous that we voted for a clown.
    What does that tell you?

The one thing that ruins our coutry is that.

  38. fernando says:

  40. this is brazil, home of ronie

  41. 17R3W says:

Someone should make Bill Frist take a literacy test!

  42. marifreica says:

Well… what can I say? I live in a country of dumb people. I thought it was funny when he was just a candidate, but when I saw that people actually voted for him, oh boy!

  43. Duke says:

    Don’t be ashamed, Brazil!

    Be proud!

We did away with literacy tests, and we’ve elected hundreds upon hundreds of clowns to our Congress.

  44. Gabriel says:

I am ashamed to be Brazillian too. He is an comedian from TV, a type of clown.

And he is bring with him a good quantity of corrupts. If someone has an atomic bomb, please, send to me. PLEASE!!

  45. dw says:

At least this politician ADMITS he’s a clown.

  46. helena says:

paulistas voted him? how many northeast people do you want that live and vote in são paulo?

  47. Carlos says:

    This idiot actually wrote “vote-getter.”
How about requiring a literacy test before allowing someone to write an article for AP?

  48. Claudia says:

The worst thing is… he’s not the one only clown we have in politics… but the only one assumed…

  49. Danillo says:

the worst part is: i’m brazilian and i watched the whole thing and the whole information is true, not a single lie ‘–

  50. Me again says:

the fail here is that the name of the clown in english would be WEED… Brazil just followed california by electing a TV Clown!

  51. Alaor says:

The great problem, just to you know, is that the votes in Tiririca elected another 4 of the same party, due to some twisted election rules we have here. Some of these 4, already known as corrupts.

  52. Moose says:

Well at least they don’t hid the clowns.. we have a bunch of clowns in the US but they hide.. good for Brazil

  53. estroulap says:

I don’t think u guys get the point. The guys is actually a clown, he worked on a circus and on the TV. This is the only time i have ever been ashamed of being Brazilian, and because of dumb people.
    Look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KbK8RkYlvE
    and then this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9Iwkv9PBDY
Go on, laugh at Brazil, because thats what the people want.

  54. BERGUNDER says:

    carnaval clown with t*ts

  55. Pierre says:

If at least he were funny

  56. Eddy says:

hell yeah i voted for grumpy, grumpy for president!

  57. xyz says:

  58. tiririca says:

    De Tiririca para Maurício Lopes:

    “Chuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-pa.”
