Why do you assume its American? Because you assume they`re the only ones who speak English in the world or is it because Americans are the only ones dumb enough to write such rubbish.
So you have seen or heard lets just say thousands (which would be a tiny percentage) of Americans saying, “speak English or die?” No you haven’t. So I guess it must not have been written by an American.
Seeing as how the note clearly says: “PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO EXIST BEHIND YOU THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW PERSONALLY KNOW.” and not “Speak english or die,” it’s obviously not American.
We Americans don’t speak English, we speak American, which has over the years branched from English just as English branched from Latin. So if somone where to say: “speak English or die” I would assume the were from England.
English isn’t a branch of any one other language. It’s more of a stem with many roots: Germanic; Celtic; Latin; French; Norse. And no, I’m not English. Neither am I American.
You wish America had its own language! To assume so is more then stupid. You speak English with a few different words, which is more like an accent. Loads of other countries speak English but have extra or less words because of accent, such as Scotland. Americans are too stupid to have their own language. Most of them can barely speak English by the way. I’m impressed you’ve even managed to turn the computer on without some form of assistance. America is the number 1 country for taking credit for other countries hard work!!

Since I don’t personally know anyone behind me in this comments I will always be the last commentor for they don’t exist! Yay! I can wipe out failblog!
The most logical conclusion is that this sign is posted on a door that leads to the outside of some type of health facility (such as a place that treats and houses Alzheimer patients). The management there don’t want their patients leaving whenever they want, so this sign is meant to convey the message that no matter what that person says, as long as you don’t personally know them or their condition, you shouldn’t let them leave the facility.
True, I don’t *know* it, but it makes sense to me. It’s a door somewhere with restricted access, and they don’t want people who ARE allowed through to hold the door for people who AREN’T allowed through.
seems like a reasonable sign to me. I have to kill anyone that tries to follow me through the door. Anyone I don’t know = terrorist, so I’m perfectly justified in taking out terrorists.
Way I see it, it could go either way. Could be a simple typo, too. But calling it a “spelling fail” confused the snot out of me at first, as I couldn’t figure out what the problem was.
I’m thinking because the sign is directed at visitors, it would be a sign leading INTO somewhere rather than out. I assume it wouldn’t matter if people are EXITING a location once they’ve been inside…unless it’s a psych ward or something? Whatever. Like previously said, I’m going with ‘wording fail’.
I’m going to have to agree – it doesn’t make sense for them to not allow people to exit, so I’m going to assume exist is the intended word, they just probably should have gone with another word choice there…
Failblog these days is just getting dumb – does anyone actually think these through before posting them?
This is a win, Someone behind me they will cease to exist if i dont know them =WIN!!!
This is actually a sign you would see at a State Prison at the visitations area. I have seen several.
The US actually speaks ‘proper’ English. It’s you Brit’s that are screwing it up. Go look it up on the internet. Analysis of spellings, which before standardization were a good indication of pronunciation, show that American English is probably closer to what English was at the time of the American Revolution than British English is. In other words, you Brits used to speak proper English, but you don’t anymore.
That’s right guys. After all, Americans haven’t really evolved much so they’re probably using an older form of the language. You should be ashamed of yourselves for claiming to be better.
GRAMMAR POLICE!!! The sign is from an Alzheimer’s Home people! Quite common here in Canada, don’t let the forgetful out unattended! They are very resourceful and we have many ESL staff working here that could make that simple grammar error. However, What is behind me does not matter!!!!
Isn’t this a jail or something, though? It seems to me the sign is trying to warn visitors of potential physical threats or pick pockets. It’s odd to state it as “exist,” but it still makes sense. Assuming this is a jail or some sort of correctional facility…
Make sure to keep a big enough gap between yourself and the one exiting in front of you at that place just in case the person in front of you “doesn’t recognize you!”
I also saw a funny sign in norway, pity I didn’t have my camera on me. It was on the door of a public toilet: ‘please shoot the door behind you’. And the Czech republic has signs at the ends of tunnels. Warning, tunnel ends here. Because it’s hard to find out whether a tunnel has ended or not.
fisst
They say American Culture promotes narcissism but this is just ridiculous.
You wrote an oxymoron there: American Culture.
Why do you assume its American? Because you assume they`re the only ones who speak English in the world or is it because Americans are the only ones dumb enough to write such rubbish.
You’re from one of the other English-speaking countries, aren’t you?
Probably because I knew some anal retentive sucker was going to take offense and go riding around on the Anti-America chariot. Call me a troll.
Guys, I’m sorry to interupt you, but can you stop existing please ? Thanks.
If americans says “Speak english or die”, we can assume that this note is from the usa.
So you have seen or heard lets just say thousands (which would be a tiny percentage) of Americans saying, “speak English or die?” No you haven’t. So I guess it must not have been written by an American.

wait … wut?
We Americans don’t speak English, we speak American, which has over the years branched from English just as English branched from Latin. So if somone where to say: “speak English or die” I would assume the were from England.
English branched from Germanic. Spanish, French, and Italian branched from Latin.
My co-worker gets so pissed about non-English speakers here. And yet she can’t speak one single Native American language.
English isn’t a branch of any one other language. It’s more of a stem with many roots: Germanic; Celtic; Latin; French; Norse. And no, I’m not English. Neither am I American.

Obvious troll is obvious. Oh well, I wouldn’t expect a Brit to do any better.
if i was a girl i’d want tentacles!
“Most of them can barely speak English by the way.”
Which was the point of saying Americans speak American.
By the way, you missed an apostrophe. “..other countries‘ hard work.” Have a nice day.
You mean *dialect* not accent. Accent refers to how the language is pronounced, not slight differences in spelling and vocabulary.
Now, that really does sound stupid…BUT, the sign doesn’t say:
PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO EXIST BEHIND YOU THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW PERSONALLY KNOW.
remove the 3rd to last word (Know) and that’s what they have on the sign…what a goob..
I’m American and I haven’t heard someone say that, and I am learning how to speak a second language….

Must… erase… existence…
*quickly stands in front of xzcx while facing them*
*Quickly stands in between DjDoDo and xzcx while facing neither of them*
Not only are you terminating people’s existences, but you made me lose at The Game.
Fail fail. AFAICT every word is spelt correctly.
Yeah, that’s what I thought. I read it about five times and even checked the words I wasn’t sure about. What gives?!
exist -> exit
It would still be a stupid note, in fact, that somehow makes LESS sense than the original :/
I agree. At least with exist, it could be a poor translation of ‘Don’t let strangers stand behind you.” as in an ATM vestibule or something.
Oh wow ur serious? i thought u were trolling.
was this there ever to begin with?
Surprise buttsechs?
@dizi – though “exist” is spelled right, it was supposed to be “exit”
All the same – sounds like fair advice to me….
You don’t know that.
True, I don’t *know* it, but it makes sense to me. It’s a door somewhere with restricted access, and they don’t want people who ARE allowed through to hold the door for people who AREN’T allowed through.
“Please do not allow anyone to EXIT behind you that you do not personally know.”
It STILL doesn’t make sense!
Oh is THAT what it is? I couldn’t figure it out. Still doesn’t make sense…
Getting to know people from behind gets fairly difficult these days…FTW!
That’s what SHE said.
in your case…im sure it’s: that’s what HE said.
seems like a reasonable sign to me. I have to kill anyone that tries to follow me through the door. Anyone I don’t know = terrorist, so I’m perfectly justified in taking out terrorists.
PURITY OF ESSENCE
OK you win!
This sign was paid for by the Association of Solipsists (Motto: all for one, and one for all in the mind).
How is that a fail? I don’t want anyone behind ME.
Especially at school.
You must EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE !
Should be “wording fail” not “spelling fail”
Thank you!
They spelled “exit” wrong. It is definitely a spelling fail. Just because it resulted in another valid word doesn’t change that.
Way I see it, it could go either way. Could be a simple typo, too. But calling it a “spelling fail” confused the snot out of me at first, as I couldn’t figure out what the problem was.
spelling? nah… choice of word fail!
Should be “Existence WIN”.
Be quiet all of you. You are nothing but a figment of this sign’s imagination
What’s to say you constitute an existence, according to this signs logic?
Satan, get thee behind me?
I’m thinking because the sign is directed at visitors, it would be a sign leading INTO somewhere rather than out. Maybe it is a prison, or a mental instituition?
There are times I wish was our Corporate policy.

This is actually a sign you would see at a State Prison at the visitations area. I have seen several.
the usa will blow ur asses up so u better stfu or ull get a bomb shoved up ur ass.
Please die now.
As an American myself, I have to say its been 202 years, it’s time to bury the hatchet with Britain.
.
Do not allow anyone you do not personally know to exist.
Exterminate them!
I AGREE WITH YOU CHA-RLES, AND FIND NO FAULT WITH THIS SIGN! EX-TER-MIN-ATE! EX-TER-MIN-ATE! EX-TER-MIN-ATE!
*Peiw!* *Peiw!* *Peiw!*
Do not allow anyone you do not personally know to exist.
Send them a friend request.

Why can`t we be friends with people EXISTING in our back?
isnt it a grammar fail ?
That’s what I wanted to know. I read it several times and unless it’s one of those insanely obvious ones, I just don’t see it.
exist is suppose to be exit.
Nonsense! If someone you don’t know personally is behind you, you should terminate their existence immediately!
Would be hard to meet people this way… you start off not knowing anyone, and then people stop existing because you don’t know them. Hmmm.
Isn’t this a jail or something, though? It seems to me the sign is trying to warn visitors of potential physical threats or pick pockets. It’s odd to state it as “exist,” but it still makes sense. Assuming this is a jail or some sort of correctional facility…

I try not to I dont like people standing behind me.
