  1. The Pen is Liquor says:

Now that’s what I call grade A failblog material!

  2. JD says:

hmm… if he’s drunk its funny. if its an old man … hmm kinda sad.

  3. Frank says:

    Don’t drink and escalate.

  4. pagorda says:

C’mon. An eldery person. An escalator. A fatal fall. This is not funny. See you in 50 years.

    • ManoucheBoy says:

      Ah great.

So if it can’t happen to you a day, its funny.

      • Rudiculous says:

No, it’s funny if it is a fail caused by someone’s stupidity. If someone isn’t able to perform a task due to physical limitations it isn’t funny since that person cannot help it. It’s like punching someone in the nose and then laughing at that person for having a broken nose.

        • Hoss says:

You’re right. Not funny. The down escalator would have been hilarious though

        • Shipoopi says:

no, the escalator can’t punch the old man in the face

it’s like an old man watching an automatic door that opens violently outward operate several cycles, then stepping into its path and getting a broken nose

it’s not unfunny just because they’re old, that’s what makes it more funny

          • Badger says:

Meh. I watched it and felt concern and sadness, not amusement. To me it’s not funny because you just get the vibe this person is probably confused and possibly scared and it’s not something they can control. Not funny.

            • Shipoopi says:

being confused and scared is something you *can* control

              • Dave says:

What the Jones are you on about? Mental disability is something you can control?

In this case, though, it’s not mental but physical disability that’s the problem. Lots of old people with mobility problems have real trouble stepping onto escalators because they can’t take two steps together fast enough.

              • Newton says:

Not really. Fear and confusion is a combination of one’s neurological physiology and a conditioned response to stimuli. To some degree, the conditioned response can be practiced and the physiology can be altered with psychotropic medications. As a person ages, their physiology changes. It’s a bit extreme to say that seniors have to add psychotropic drugs to their regimen of heart, BP, cholesterol, etc, medications just so they can accomplish mental responses that their bodies can no longer follow. It’s far better as a society to treat them with honor and respect as the generations who fed our ungrateful butts when we were still dirtying our diapers. One day we will be in their position. Will we have raised kids who will be there for us when we can’t get around without walkers or wheelchairs or leave us to rot in the local nursing home peeing in our Depends?

            • sporktacular says:

To be fair, the idiot who who tries to jump his riding-mower over an irrigation ditch and fall in is also confused and scared.
Fear and confusion ALONE don’t necessarily make something unfunny :)

            • Alan Gerow says:

He can control not going on an escalator that confuses and scares him.

              • Badger says:

If the guy is senile. Can he control that? Can he control what then confuses him etc.? Can a resident of a country of totalitarian regimes control their fate? Is the plight of every resident of North Korea who falls foul of Kim Jong Il funny? Is that footage of the puppy being kicked by it’s owner funny?

    • lols says:

Are you implying there weren’t any escalators 50 years ago? Dude…

      • timemaker says:

in 50 years from now there won’t be any escalators…. we will just tele-transport with a pre-paid nanochip in our heads.

but some elders would teletransport to some pretty weird places, that will be ver funny to watch too

    • Cheshire says:

Is it a fatal fall if he didn’t die?

      (cheat sheet: it’s not)

    • fatal fall, rofl. it was hardly fatal, not even bruising.

  5. John says:

What’s the deal with the jerk at the start who walks past without helping??

    • Bobby Feet says:

You’re right, that’s the real fail here.

(The woman who came running down the other side to help wins, though. I’m not sure if she was an employee or a random passer-by, but I kind of hope the latter because it makes her seem that much kinder.)

    • ism says:

Dunno. He’s more concerned about his hair, I guess. He’s the only thing FAIL about this. I think he deserves being passed by and left without help after an accident. just to make him think. And maybe lose a limb.

    • Me says:

That’s what I was going to say, the real fail here is the jerk who sees him and doesn’t help.

    • Gremour Nutsy says:

He had to laugh really hard, but was too polite to laugh in the old man’s face?

      • DRX says:

Could be. Hell the old guy could have been a real a**hole for all we know…………maybe the old guy flipped him off earlier for trying to get something down off a top shelf

  6. pOSTER says:

He probably suffers from Alzheimer’s :-( Those people are constantly unlearning even the most basic things. Not that funny actually…

  7. WordStar says:

Looks to me like a comedy bit from old British TV.

  8. ellbell says:

I agree, it’s not particularly funny. My Grandmother used to experience the same thing. Getting older altered her depth perception and so she found riding escalators very difficult – and she’d get embarrassed about holding people up

  9. Mr. Cumming says:

Was that man transported from the 19th century?

  10. Hoss says:

And we let old geezers drive

  11. Ben says:

    civil courage fail

  12. Mountain Man says:

I like how the one guy glances at the man in trouble and just keeps on walking.

  13. Roundgal says:

C’mon guys. The hand rail wasn’t moving. That’s what caused the problem. Give the poor guy a break.

  14. Lamos says:

was that in 50′ i hear the were man eater back then

  15. Nick Foster says:

I think they let him out of the “facility” too soon.

  16. sonic says:

anyone else notice the cursor in the bottom right hand corner just before the words appear?

  17. Seafret says:

    I think that’s a drunken win myself, I don’t think it’s because he’s old…

  18. AfarVF says:

    Plx use ur Feets d:

  19. lifechooser says:

Emergency stop fail – he stops the wrong escalator.

  20. AfarVF says:

he drops his cane on the escalator.
Pick it was a bad idea.

  21. Otto says:

Has this man never used *stairs* before?

Sorry, but I don’t buy it. Nobody’s that crippled. The guy is walking relatively normally up to the thing, but then simply has no idea how to step onto it. He’s not elderly, he’s just an idiot.

  22. Alabastor says:

    Not shown: Dignity.

  23. bjerring says:

    did he died?

  24. ace says:

“WHY DO I NEVER STOP FALLING!?!?!

    • DRX says:

I wish we could have seen the part where he goes up out of the cameras sight and then he AND the lady tumble down……..then up…….then down………then up……then…wait…….what?

  25. Duta says:

why are they no escalator pron s?

  26. Sarge says:

We don’t want his kind here.

Ship him off to Guantánamo in an orange jumpsuit.

  27. Devin says:

It’s Darwinism a work people. Just let it happen. We’ll all be better off for it…

  28. Kingt34 says:

the black and white makes it look like this was filmed when elevators were first invented… lol

  29. Todd says:

Yeah, this was one was not so funny to me.

  30. Dr. Stroke says:

He looks like hes having a stroke. Strokes can be funny when there are hilarious consequences, but its kinda sad too.

  31. DRX says:

There was nothing funny about this video when i watched it!!!! BUT IT GOT FUNNIER EVERY TIME AFTER THAT

  32. Raquel says:

    Not funny at all.

  33. Shipoopi says:

inb4 people needlessly empathize with old loser

  34. Speciālists says:

Its look like that this man is from the deep field :D

  35. Shalezo says:

    What happened?

  36. + _JOSEPH_ + says:

I think the fail is from the old man and not from the escalator in itself

  37. Danny says:

Love how that first guy looked right at him and walked right on by. Douche.

  38. Lytrigian says:

This man could have been one of my co-workers. I’m not sure what his diagnosis is, but he has serious mobility problems. He could be walking down the hallway just fine, and then one of his legs will suddenly refuse to move. Thank God I’ve only ever seen him fall once; there have been a couple of dozen other times where I was sure it was inevitable.

    • wren says:

That happens to my grandfather because of scar tissue near his spine. Sometimes his legs just stop responding. Could be similar.

  39. missourimedic says:

As a paramedic, I’m CONSTANTLY called out to help lift elderly people from the floor, who can’t help themselves up. They are often too weak and too uncoordinated. Add to this the possibility of a past stroke, Parkinson’s disease, polio, hip replacements, or a thousand other agility-affecting maladies, and it’s no wonder. There’s nothing at all funny about this video. What’s especially sad, is the first guy who walked right past without helping.

    • Shipoopi says:

      too lame; didn’t read

    • missouriresident says:

Agreed, this isn’t funny. Hell, he could be having a stroke or a heart attack right there on the escalator. Shame on you douchers who think it’s funny to laugh at disabilities and medical issues.

  40. Neiklot says:

I don’t get all the morons who say this is not funny because maybe he suffers from illness or disability.

My question is then: WHY TRY TO GET ON AN ESCALATOR!!!!!!!!

    Go find stairs or elevator.

    That was hilarious.

    • Dave says:

      Perhaps there is no elevator?

Perhaps he’s just too darned proud to admit he can’t manage something as simple as getting on an escalator any more.

I can think of lots of possible explanations for this video, and the only one which would make it funny is if that’s a young, healthy guy who was intoxicated. All the others are a bit sad, and not funny.

  41. John says:

Im sorry but if I was there I would’ve probably laughed.

  42. Kevin says:

I like how the first guy just walks away when the guy was curled up on the escalator. A class act.

  43. aaronm says:

he’s holding a drink, and there are slot machines in the background. either way i still think its funny

  44. Yojiro says:

To me it seemed like he fainted or blacked out.
Looking a second time it does look like he’s drunk, he was just staring at the moving steps like WTF IS GOING ON HERE?!? and then got pwned by them.
And I have no idea how some of you think that guy is old. He’s just not.

  45. beanbag says:

if you’re lucky enough to live a long life then you will end up rolling around on an escalator one day… or possibly some new piece of technology you can’t comprehend

  46. Simen says:

The actual story behind this video: The man who is going up the escalators is suffering from an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Unfortunately, this man did not survive his heart attack. Therefor the only fail i can see in this video is the man walking straight on by without helping. The poor old man didnt fail, he just passed out as a result of his heart no longer working.

  47. BLAMMO says:

Straight up hilarious. The rolling killed me. So good.

  48. Neiklot says:

I absolutely don’t understand the heart attack reasoning. If he has the heart attack at the start why is he still trying to board the escalator, if he has it midway how do you explain the initial fail.

I don’t care how old you are, if you’re too arrogant to admit you can’t do the things you use to, it’s a fail.

  49. Jared says:

I fell down the escalator once. it took me an hour and a half to reach the bottom.

  50. nickthegreek says:

    This is not a fail
    this goes ‘escalator wins, fatality’

  51. Homonculus says:

If I were the old guy I’d laugh at it. Much better to be the butt of a Joke than the object of pity. Have some humility and stop being so self righteous – it’s hilarious and it’s allowed to be. If you remember that you’ll have a much better time of it when it happens to you eventually……of course if you do get Alzheimer’s then you won’t remember much….but then you won’t remember the falling down the escalators either.

  52. Homonculus says:

  53. Homonculus says:

…. apparently I have Alzheimer’s already as I seem to be unwittingly repeating myself ^^

  54. LR01 says:

What about the person walking by while the old man falls?
“Why the hell should I care?”

  55. DRX says:

What would have been great is if the escalator wasn’t moving at all in the first place. Nothing better than falling up.

  56. GogaPike says:

Isn’t that Johnny Knoxville from JackAss playing that old man character? I can’t remember his name.

  57. Luis says:

Look Like Mr Burns – The SimpSons

  58. Allan says:

I agree with GogaPike. That might be Johnny. But what if it is’nt. Mystery
