Although, I don’t think you can get swine flu from eating pork, anyway, so it’s more of an “understanding illness” fail than anything. Correct me if I’m wrong, though…
You can’t… sick animals aren’t sold as meat, and proper cooking removes any potential health risks (trichinosis comes to mind). However, a lot of people don’t understand that you can’t get swine flu from eating pork, so it’s a valid advertising point.
I think this MIGHT be a joke from the swine-flu-panic period. Here’s my theory: People in the pork industry were apparently annoyed at the use of the term “swine flu” because it made people afraid that pork would give them the flu, and caused a drop in sales. Calling pork “swine free” would sort of make fun of people for being so hung up on the association of the word “swine” with “flu” that they don’t want to buy pork.
I’d love to say it’s an illness fail, but seriously, people are morons. At the height of the swine flu epidemic, my grocery store saw a fall of over 50% in pork sales until the CDC declared the pandemic at an end.
It’s a swine flu related joked the owners put up a while back. I live down the road from this market, they have most excellent meat. Lots of awards hanging on their walls. Alot of the local mom & pop burger stands get their meat here and it is fantastic.
Maybe this refers to the practice of feeding pork products to pigs. The term ‘Special Pig’ refers to a pig that is fed a diet of at least 65 per cent pork…and as someone who has tried Special Pig let me attest to it being far more delicious than standard grocery-store pork.
Unfortunately there is no policy of feeding the parts of these pigs to other pigs. I can only imagine how tasty that would be.
Actually, it is probably true. The pork we eat usually comes from various types of [mostly] hairless pigs, swine are the hairy varieties – think “wild boar.”
your comments are mostly imbecelic. this is an austin, texas store right off campus (note the longhorn symbol on the sign) and is purely and solely meant to be ironic.
Nope, this is a Yelm Washington store. I lived by that place for over a decade. It’s a butcher shop, hence the cow, but they also sell pork, chicken and many kinds of exotic meat. Even alligator.
Hard to know where Yelm stops and McKenna begins.. Stewart’s Meats has a Yelm address, but is kinda sitting in McKenna. Maybe they should just combine the two finally.. Yelm is still exploding and from what I’ve seen, it’s pretty much eating McKenna.
when im goin to eat pork swine is the last thing i wanna see on there sign thats like handing someone some water and then saying i didnt spit in your water ok
Just like a few other people I know exactly where that is. It’s over in a town called Yelm and they have the best damn jerky and sausage you will ever find. I live in Spanaway (haven’t heard of it? No one has!) and we get meat there all the time. GO STEWARTS
Perhaps, the person making the sign was trying to refer to the absence of uncastrated male pig in the pork. After all, if males aren’t castrated young, their meat takes on a distinct, gross-tasting flavor, something people would not want to buy. Though the word “swine” does not refer specifically to males, the person making the sign may have thought it was another word for “boar,” just like “sow” is a name for female pigs. It would make a lot of sense to point out that their pork no longer includes that type of pig.
No, likely what he was referring to is that the machinery used to cut/grind his beef was not used for pork. Some nationalities (such as Germans) have dishes that use Raw beef. Raw beef is perfectly fine to eat – unless it has been cross-contaminated with Pork.
Pork can contain cysts from Trichina. Cows are not subject to Trichina – and therefor the beef is safer to eat raw. However, if the beef is cut/ground with the same tools, the beef can become contaminated. Note that cooking the beef/pork destroys these bacteria (if cooked properly), but we’re talking about people eating raw or undercooked beef.
This is a fail on the poster, not the sign. It makes perfect sense to anyone who knows their dishes.
@Raptor2213, Trichina is actually a parasitic worm that lives in the meat of (mostly) wild animals (example boar), it can transfer to humans if we eat untreated meat – the parasites will then live on inside our muscles and organs. Domestic animals (swine) are typically tested for this when they are butchered.
omg! Stewart’s is the best butcher shop evar! we drive all the way from Portland to buy stuff there whenever we can (and Stewart’s is better than anything in Seattle too). they make their own sausage, beef jerky, etc. with local grass fed, free-range animals. they only cut up nice piggies–no swine allowed! the sign is clearly just a failure in trying to be clever.
but now we’re all talking about them, so maybe it’s a bit of a win after all.
“2. A person regarded as brutish or contemptible.”
Their pork isn’t contemptible. Words often have multiple meanings and they were obviously trying to be cleaver. I think it is rather obvious that the poster is the one who failed here.
meat isn’t what it used to be ^^
“Our cows no longer have pigs in them!”
That’s disgusting: cow f*cking pigs
Mustve been a hard day for the cows.
Although they were probably stoned.
Well, I suppose being stoned would help!
the pigs are in the cows.so the pigs are f*cking the cows.
the bullhorn does NOT mean they only do cow/bull meat.
That’s right, the bullhorn just means they want to be herd.
actually cank, it would be pig f*cking cows………. or bulls f*cking pigs, cows are female….
Probably wanted to say swine-flu
Exactly my thought. Looks like there just wasn’t enough room on the marquee to include all that.
Although, I don’t think you can get swine flu from eating pork, anyway, so it’s more of an “understanding illness” fail than anything. Correct me if I’m wrong, though…
You can get swine by ordering pork.
I heard you can get it from a bus seat.
Happened to a friend of a friend of mine. It was awful.
I didn’t get my swine from pork, I got it from a deli-meat transfusion.
Tenderloins is an indication you may have swine.
You can’t, but the public is stupid enough to make disclaimers like that necessary anyway.
You can’t… sick animals aren’t sold as meat, and proper cooking removes any potential health risks (trichinosis comes to mind). However, a lot of people don’t understand that you can’t get swine flu from eating pork, so it’s a valid advertising point.
That’s what I also thought.
that IS what they meant, but were too lazy (or dumb) to put in the sign
I think this MIGHT be a joke from the swine-flu-panic period. I guess they took it on the lamb.
Sorry, can you repeat that, I’m a bit Mutton Jeff!

That’s what she said!
Ah! A fellow Yelmer, eh? Or McKenna-ite.. Gyawd Stewart’s Meats has fantastic jerky.
Yelm.. were you ether work at Walmart, sunbird, or safeway.
Or Domino’s as I did.. >.>
I grew up in Parkland, and grew up driving all the way out to Mckenna to get Stewert’s jerky. Ahhh, fond memories.
This is only to attract muslims

Hmmm… create an infinitely recursive loop of deliciousness!
What if we fed them chicken… would we get bacon and eggs?
Hmmmnnn… tastes like chicken.
Hello, everybody. My name is Nellie Lovett and I can tell you, my pork is even freer of swine than this guy’s!
My parents buy meat at this place because it’s close to where I live… Shameful.
Shameful!? Blasphemy! Stewart’s Meats has awesome.. meat.
Best jerky I’ve ever had is there… Yelm, WA.
Yep, best meat in western washington.
LOL That’s close to Roy, Washington.
I knew that’s where this was. I’ve had their stuff before… amazing!
Agreed!
How come that swine has a wooden leg?
Because you don’t eat an award winning pig like that all at once.
More evidence towards the great tofu conspiracy >.>
Actually, it is probably true. The pork we eat usually comes from various types of [mostly] hairless pigs, swine are the hairy varieties – think “wild boar.”
Really? Interesting, although the problem is that most people (like me) don’t have the knowledge to see that distinction. Nice one, though.
Actually, swine refers to any kind of pig, hog or boar.
OMG I live near there *facepalm* u_u
Be proud! Stewart’s Meats has awesome jerky.
Yea they do ^_^
Dude a swine is a female pig so they don’t use chick pigs in their pork. Failblog fail here
Nope, Dude fail. A sow is a female pig. Swine refers to any kind of pig, hog or boar.
ok you win…
Our chicken is poultry-free
Our prostitutes have no hoes in them.

Technically its not in Yelm, its in Mckenna or whatever.

OMG I have totally been there. It’s out WAY south of Tacoma.

Just like a few other people I know exactly where that is. It’s over in a town called Yelm and they have the best damn jerky and sausage you will ever find. I live in Spanaway (haven’t heard of it? No one has!) and we get meat there all the time. GO STEWARTS
Here here! *salute*
Stop congesting the waiting line.. damn tourists.

That would make sense if the sign said “Our beef is swine free.” But that’s not what it says. It clearly states that their pork is swine free.

I live just 5 miles away from this place. Fail sign or not, they have the best beef jerky and pepperoni I have ever had in my life.
he! ^^
Understanding reformed meat-Fail.
There pork probably is meat-free, too.
hee hee … it said PORK … hee hee
omg! Damn tourists, no wonder it takes 30 minutes sometimes to get some beef.
This is the best meat shop around!! ive driven 3 hours for their jerky!!
