Yes, it is intentional. The photographer who took the photo acknowledged it was at a boulangerie called Le Gay choc in the gay district of Paris (as he described it). More of a tourist attraction than anything else.

The bakery is also named “baguette” for the same reason, its shape. It’s the same for “croissant” that looks like “une croissant de lune” (moon crescent)

i live in paris and i also pay my plain baguette 0.70 and it’s a real one (not a heated one) and it’s really good. if you’re paying 1.7 for flour, baking powder, water and salt, then you should think twice before going back to that bakery!
