» 101 Failures in Communication

  1. John Elson says:

    This is really reaching!

  2. Jo-han says:

    Surplus from the diabetics

  3. type1 says:

this is really lame. diabetics can eat candy bars, it would be prefectly fine selling this stuff. now if it was lets-end-obesity org. that would be hilarious.

    • fuzz on the concept says:

      … yeah, they’ve made a diabetic stereotype1 here. ;)

      • fuzz on the concept says:

♫ You want me to act like we’ve never chocolate kissed
You want me to forget, pretend we’ve never e’t
And I’ve tried and I’ve tried but I haven’t yet
I walk by, and you fail with Reese’s

        ... meanwhile, I fall to Reese's Pieces
    • lowkey says:

the fail is not that they’re selling candy bars to diabetics. The sign says that the fundraiser itself is diabetic…and that’s just silly.

    • Nopers says:

Thank you – I realize this is probably not the place where people are going to want to be educated about this sort of thing, but candy bars have nothing to do with diabetes. Diabetics CAN eat candy/sugar and too much candy/sugar is not why people get Diabetes. A poor diet can lead to Diabetes, but it is certainly not the only reason or even the dominant reason.

  4. DrB ☆ says:

    Sex Addicts’ Fundraiser.

    Oyster cookies $1 ea.

  5. dannifoley says:

This is a very sweet notion! (Screw it, pun totally intended)

    • melizza says:

I’m just replying to this so I’m higher up :) And I like your pun ;)

I worked for Wawa and we were raising money for Diabetes. We sold ice cream in small cups and asked for a dollar a cup. The point of this was to show kids and adults what people with Diabetes are missing out on: sweets. I read the above comments about the differences between the types of Diabetes and that some can actually have candy, but the point is the lesson we were trying to teach people when they bought ice cream.

      Okie *poof*

  6. Avis says:

    Sweet!

    I am SO sorry
  7. DB9 says:

there is 2 types of diabetics fat ones (type 2) who have to much blood sugar, and type 1 who don’t have enough blood sugar and have to take insulin or have candy to increase blood sugar levels.

    • John says:

Wrong, wrong, wrong! See Just_a_diabetic’s comments below.

    • fuzz on the concept says:

oh no, you’ve said “to much”

    • Mawcrow says:

Actually, you are wrong. Type 1 diabetes means that the person has a pancreas unable to produce insulin, that normally controls the amount of persons bloodsugar by lowering it, so he has to get the insulin other ways, normally by needle or insulin pump. Eating food raises persons bloodsugar for everyone, and insulin lowers it.

Type 2 diabetes is pretty much the same, but it is caused by obesity (in most cases) in adulthood and is not “absolute” like type 1, so you can get rid of it.

      • Mawcrow says:

Just_a_diabetic said it actually better than I did, but anyways. I’m a type 1 diabetic, btw.

        • jsutasock says:

actually type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, type 2 diabetes has as many causes as it does people with it, and it is not always caused be obesity, however it is a disease where the pancreas no longer produces insulin, or the body has become tolerant to the insulin produced, either condition will wear the pancreas out, causing the diabetic to have to use insulin.

          • Mawcrow says:

Well, I do not know all the detail, that is for sure, but I know how it is to live as one.

            • Stanni says:

Yeah it sucks. I was getting tired of checking my bloodsugar all the time. I check it once or 2 times a day. I know it’s not good and my bloodsugar is too high, but I just want to live my life you know. I know all the horrible complications but I don’t really notice it when my bloodsugar is high so I became too casual with my illness. Anyone else familiar with this problem?

    • erion says:

What the hell are you talking about? You obviously know nothing about diabetes.

  8. ClariPossum says:

I call this a win! :D It inspires non-diabetics to help since they’re more likely to buy candy than something else they may not want. :D

  9. David says:

    really really weak…

  10. Zear says:

    FIRST FIRST !

    • CycloneGU says:

      Fail. Fail.

Nothing like selling a form of sugar as a fundraiser to help treat a condition caused by…a form of sugar. =O

      • Hanz says:

That’s the point. They can’t eat them, why not sell them to those who can?

      • chaBANG says:

Wrong, sometimes diabetics (mainly type one) have to have sugar to put there blood sugar levels up. And Type one diabtes isn’t ’cause by sugar. It’s a autoimmune disease. Type two you generally do bring it on yourself by eating fat, high sugary foods.

  11. Alyssia says:

    Some diabetics do eat candy

  12. deedee13 says:

I understand the irony but still not a fail.

  13. Just_a_Diabetic says:

@DB9 Type 1 and 2 is not a question blood sugar, it’s a question of insulin in your body.
Type 1 has no naturally produced insulin (autoimmune disease), Type 2 has a insulin resistance, the body still produces it but it’s not as effective as for healthy people.
People with Type 1 must take insulin, with Type 2 you don’t have to in all cases.
Btw: insulin decreases the blood sugar.

    • YesSirMam says:

Just_a…i shake my head, too, when I”m reminded what bad info and stereotyping is out there. What’d be funnier is if this was in an endo doc’s office ROFL.

  14. Anon says:

This isn’t a fail at all. It in no way says it’s for diabetics and on top of that, there are times when a diabetic needs the quick sugar from a candy. Sorry, but the poster is the FAIL!

  15. Me says:

…. There’s 2 types of diabetics ya know… The type which has too much insulin and too little sugar and too much sugar and little insulin.

With too much insulin, a diabetic would NEED to consume more sugar than the average person to stay healthy. Even if the diabetic had too much sugar, it would take a LOT to kill themselves ingesting sugar.

    ——————————————-
They see me trollin’, they hatin’

    • John says:

Just to clarify, the 2 types of diabetics are as specified by Just_a_Diabetic, above.
Type 1: the pancreas doesn’t produce insulin, and insulin injections are required (the type I’ve had for 37 years).
Type 2: the pancreas produces insulin, but the body has insulin resistance, and is treated by some combination of diet, exercise, oral medication, and sometimes insulin.
If either type gave too much insulin for the combination of carbohydrates eaten and exercise level (or a Type 2 diabetic’s oral meds had the same effect), THEN they would be “the type which has too much insulin and too little sugar”. If this is what you meant, then I hope this clarifies things.

    • John Elson says:

      low blood sugar is hypoglycemia

    • Th8rgoddess says:

“The type which has too much insulin” is a person with hypoglycemia, which John Elson pointed out. which is a totally different disorder.

      • Nopers says:

Diabetics often need quick doses of sugar – such as what can be found in sodas or candy. This “fail” is misleading and based on misinformation.

  16. Oh man that’s so good. Classic.

  17. Ajani says:

    LOL!

    That’s a classic fail.

  18. Another_diabetic says:

I don’t really find this funny at all. Not only is it based on a stereotype, it isn’t actually ironic at all without the mentioned stereotype. Also, type 1 diabetics don’t cause diabetes on themselves, it’s in their genes.

    • chaBANG says:

It’s not necessarily in the genes. I’m the only one in my family to ever have type one diabetes.

      • DrB ★ says:

There’s alternatives to injections now, no?

        I’d buy a chocky bar.

        • Andrew says:

no, not really. for type 1 diabetes it’s sort of like you can go from about 3-5 injections a day to an insulin pump which is a needle stick every 2-3 days but has a catheter that stays in all the time. and that doesn’t include fingersticks (4-10 a day) and the shitty feelings you get when your blood glucose is high/low.
type 2 on the other hand, yes, it usually can be controlled with diet and exercise or pills.

      • Andrew says:

research says that there’s a genetic predisposition that is triggered by an environmental factor. still, it’s not their fault.

  19. pixi says:

I have juvenile diabetes (Type 1) which I was diagnosed with when I was four. I am skinny as all hell. I have had to EAT CANDY in emergencies. A lot of you are really confused about what diabetes is and must have believed your mom when she told you too much sugar would give it to you. Diabetics can eat candy.

  20. Really says:

But there is impossible to be any fail in Reese’s peanut butter cups *drool*

  21. Th8rgoddess says:

the only fail i see with this picture is that it illustrates the lack of understanding of a disorder distressingly common disorder.

  22. Carissa says:

Even though some people clearly don’t understand diabetes, it gives me hope that some people on the internet really do. It’s so frustrating to go online and see people sticking to stereotypes and their ignorance, so I thank everyone on here who helps to inform people about what the two types of diabetes actually are.

  23. Shelby says:

    Well,

    I’m Juvenile Diabetic (Type 1)

And really this isn’t a fail at all. I’m eating cookies right now ha. It’s just a matter of taking medicine (insulin) whenever you consume a certain amount of carbohydrates or when your glucose is high. And so basically you’re getting a shot with almost anytime you eat or in my case, pressing a button (yay for insulin pumps!)

And thanks to those of you who have clarified the difference between the two types. Because I didn’t get diabetes from poor diet or lack of exercise. I got it because my pancreas didn’t want to work (ha/jk) but it’s also a hormonal thing also. Insulin is a hormone. So Juvenile Diabetes is something you can’t prevent. Though poor control over type 2 can lead to type 1 diabetes.

    • Andrew says:

well it doesn’t really change from type 2 to type 1, it always remains that in type two the pancreas does function while in type 1 the pancreas doesn’t function. it’s just that insulin is sometimes needed to control type 2 better.

  24. no says:

thats not a faliure or even ironic at all. people eat candy whenever they have a diabetic attack, candy is entirely possible and even encouraged along with, say, orange juice or anything like that. the body can’t regulate blood sugar levels so you have to do it with candy. its entirely normal. this picture isn’t wrong

  25. liz says:

When my boss sees me with a candy bar he points to my insulin pump and says “better turn that thing up to 10″.

    • Shelby says:

haha my friends say that when i’m eating dessert. or at a buffet they’re like is there button you can push for “stuffing the face?” haha

  26. megababez says:

john u r sooo rite . iv had diabeties for 24 yrs and its sad to see just how little people no about it so thanks 4 giving the rite facts . and YAY for insuline pump (even if there arnt bloody funded in nz)

  27. Andrew says:

type 2 diabetes and type 1 diabetes really should have different names entirely because people just don’t understand the difference.

  28. Seth says:

I saw the same thing today. I woman was set up outside the grocery store collecting for Juvenile Diabetes by selling chips, Doritos, Cheetos and soda….just the sort of diet that starts kids down the path that can lead to……you guessed it…DIABETES!!!

I made a donation and declined the “goodies” she was offering. When I metioned the incongruity of the senario she looked at me like I had two heads.

    • Sherlock Holmes says:

I saw the same thing in the last 20 posts. A person commenting on this “fail” doesn’t understand that type 1 and type 2 diabetes are completely different, in fact the fundaraiser was for juvenile diabetes (which is basically synonymous with type 1 diabetes), whereas it’s chips, Doritos and Soda which can lead to type 2 diabetes. Actually it’s wise for a diabetic to carry sugar with them in case of hypoglycemia (which is considered a medical emergency).

I made a post and discredited the “insight” the previous poster was offering. When I mentioned the incongruity, he realised he’d failed to read the 50 comments that would have explained it to him.

  29. Vegeta says:

Diabeetus testing supply sales are going to go through the roof!

  30. Mort says:

I’d buy one, all I would have to do is take some insulin :3

  31. Lord Aaronus the Red says:

It’s like sending drug money to UNICEF…

  32. durrr says:

FAIL Blog post FAIL. Diabetics eat candy bars to boost their blood sugar when needed in a pinch.

  33. hmmm says:

raisin’ money for your own treatment. an investment of “forward-looking” nature.

  34. Jessie says:

    op ignorance fail.

  35. Someone says:

Its like having an orgy at a no aids benefit party.

  36. hah says:

    being diabetic, I approve.

  37. thealligator says:

the doctor told him/her that he/she has diabetic thats why they sell those chocolate bars >.>

  38. Jake2408 says:

    Diabetics can eat candy!

  39. Patrick says:

It is a fail, actually. While diabetics can eat candy bars if they choose, it is a well known fact that eating a ridiculous amount of food like this can cause a person to become diabetic. So to be peddling candy bars to a population of which much is already heading in that direction is, even if in just a very small way, propagating additional potential cases of the disease.

  40. cody says:

patrick your an idiot you can eat as much stuff as you want yes i know there will be health risks but it is very hard to become a diabetic without it being in your family… trust me my dad is a diabetic he got it from his dad and his dad got it from his dad i didnt get diagnosed with it because of my mom my mom has low blood pressure and low blood sugar.

  41. BRM says:

Don’t you see? They’re recruiting as well as fundraising…

  42. Alex says:

I believe that is our sign but i do that for boy scouts every year around spring time… TROOP 1 OXFORD,CT WWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
