Yikes, what kind of bikes do YOU ride? That’s got to be a dinosaur! 30 pounds? I’d take it back and ask them to cut it into two, maybe even three bikes
seeing as kids would do this s**t just to try and get their pic chosen, its very likely a fake, especially since failblog just had a bike wheel left behind a few pages back.
Possibly a white plate with a blue border at the top and bottom – that could be Minnesota. If so, then this is way down in Southern Minnesota near the border – within biking distance to Iowans…
Meh. It’s good enough to keep the hobos walking off with it easily, and that size cable won’t stop someone determined to steal the bike, even if it were strapped around something better. Not really a fail IMO.
In that case, it would do to run the chain through the front wheel as well to prevent it from being able to roll. Both wheels if you have enough chain, as the front can just be removed if you’re determined to roll it off. Now go watch Justib Bieber get hit with a bottle
Are the other people trolling very poorly or am I one of the six other people that realized the fail is that you could just lift the bike up and take it? Why is everyone stuck on the size of the chain?
Took me a moment to recognize the fail. Thought the pole in the background was jutting out of the post in the foreground, which would make this a security win.
That lock ain’t much of a security, no matter what you lock it to. You take a big wirecutter to it, you can steal the bike in about 10 seconds. I wouldn’t use that thing for anything more than a secondary lock, for locking my quick-release parts (wheels, seat) to the frame. The primary lock should always be a thick, hardened steel chain or a U-lock. Those are much harder to cut/break.
as a former bike messenger I LOVE seeing stuff like this. Back “on the job” we’d see “newbies” locking up to stuff like this (or just the front tire)…we’d snag the bike, move it down the block a bit (not STEALING, just “repostitoning”) and wait across the street to see the look of panic on their face when they don’t see their bike.
If we’re REALLY having fun, and a messenger is dumb enough not to take their quick release seats with them…we take them and drop them back at the depot. Every try to ride, quickly, through city traffic with a heavy messenger bag while having to stand the whole time? And trust…you only forget there’s no seat and sit on a bare post ONCE.
This IS a fail. I ride my bike almost every day and see people lock their bikes up like this all the time. Anyone can just walk up, stretch the cable over the post and run off with your bike. I wish more people would educate themselves on how to properly lock their bikes up. I use 2 locks: a U lock for the back tire, and then I wrap a cable around my front tire and frame. Just putting a cable on the frame is not good enough. I once saw someone do the same as pictured, but they haphazardly wrapped a cable around their handlebars!. Anyone could have walked away with it in a few seconds.
I couldn’t agree more. People should just learn to take care of the bicycles properly. In many cases their bicycles are just like part of the famiy, but do they give them the respect they deserve? Oh no they don’t, and we see here yet another example of neglect. Attend a course and getting you bicycle-locking certfication is really the least the general population can do. Sadly, we live in a different world where people just don’t care. A world where someone would just walk into a shop to buy milk and leave their bicycle less than secure. I don’t know what we can do, but Mike, through your continued efforts we can at least raise awareness of this heinous practice.
That looks like something my retarted autistic brother Willie woudl do. However, he also fists his poopie hole and then uses the poopies as lube to wank his bent willy.
For security..its enough
2nd
It looks like a pretty good chain to me – agreed.
Yeah, it’s a good chain, but that doesn’t make it secure…
Are you sure it’s not secure? Really? Is that why it’s on failblog?
Wow, I was just trying to spare your feelings. Way to be.
Considering it’s linked to a series of 30 0 6 rifles mounted on nearby posts (not pictured), I’d say the security is OK.
Oh! I seem so actually it’s a security win, they just cut the rest of the security out of the photo.
Oh yeah, that’ll be juuuust fine.
Err… i dont think so..
we need a CCTV!
That’s .. um .. Brilliant!!
Yep; Warwick Davis will never get that bike now!
trolls…
No no, not Trolls. Warwick Davis was a Nelwyn
LOL, girls are amazing!… ROFL!
7th!
and yeah but thats is a really safe lock for short people
And people who aren’t able to lift more than 15 lbs.
Good thing a bike weighs thirty then.
But they just as easily get 2-3 people to lift it.
Yikes, what kind of bikes do YOU ride? That’s got to be a dinosaur! 30 pounds? I’d take it back and ask them to cut it into two, maybe even three bikes
99% sure this was done just to take the picture.
Rule #99 of the Internet. Someone always thinks it’s fake.
seeing as kids would do this s**t just to try and get their pic chosen, its very likely a fake, especially since failblog just had a bike wheel left behind a few pages back.
Ohh….and I’m pretty sure it’s shopped. You can see teh pixels!!
yes, shopped, definitely shopped.
I’m pretty sure this “rules of the internet” is fake.
@facepalm, I have seen this twice IRL, but what you say could also be true.
I’ve not only seen, I had to explain what was wrong to the genius that did it.
Yup. This is exactly why my roommate is no longer allowed to borrow my bike.
Perhaps a Super Trooper is setting up a sting operation!
Hmm, if its true, does anyone know where was this photo taken?
in the parking lot. duh

Agreed, i think another reason could be to prevent the bike from falling
In that case, it would do to run the chain through the front wheel as well to prevent it from being able to roll. Both wheels if you have enough chain, as the front can just be removed if you’re determined to roll it off. Now go watch Justib Bieber get hit with a bottle
why the guy who took this picture doesn’t give a zoom to see better?
looks security!
Ive seen that at a gas station
Are the other people trolling very poorly or am I one of the six other people that realized the fail is that you could just lift the bike up and take it? Why is everyone stuck on the size of the chain?
Or maybe you need to learn to see sarcasm…
Well, I tend to “see” things that are real and not abstract concepts. I was referring more to kg’s post than legitimately sarcastic ones.
my bad, didn’t see that kg’s one!
Ummm, yeah…. I was wondering the very same thing.
So actually this isn’t such a big fail, given the fact that most people don’t even see the problem.
Well, they at least made it midget-proof.
Twenty-third!
Took me a moment to recognize the fail. Thought the pole in the background was jutting out of the post in the foreground, which would make this a security win.
Staged, it’s been done, and it’s also been posted to Failblog already.
Bummer. I guess someone cut away the part of that post that looped back down into the ground then.
its a slinky XD
If that’s not a great example of a “concrete-bound” psycho-epistemology, I don’t know what is! XD
I get it. The thelf can simply lift the bike. huh!
Perhaps you are ready to apply for Mensa now?
well, there could be an eyelet or something on the other side that the chain is going through. But regardless, the bike is still there so its a WIN

I remember seeing one where the rack was one of the squiggly ones:
n n n n n
u u u u u
and a bike had its chain wrapped completely around one of the ‘n’s. I bet the person thought that if 1 is good, 2 is better
n n n n
_u u u u
Well, it’s not like the bike’s worth stealing anyway.
did he die?
This is a test; it is only a test. If this were a real post it’s content would be humorous.
aha!
Why do they keep messing with things around here?
did he die?
aha!
Why do they keep messing with things around here?
the sad thing is david cameron – the current prime minister of the UK – did exactly this then was surprised when his bike got nicked.
That will sure scare the midgets.
Thats the same that close car and stay open car with key in car!

Deserve to be stolen imo.
It looks as though it’s been put there for that purpose. Highly visible location, in view of traffic, the bike can be ridden away.
Now that I think of it, it’s more than likely this is a trap bike that the police set to make an arrest.
fail
At least s/he locked it to the bike frame!
In this specific case, it was worst than locking it to the wheel
i’m really disappointed by the last 5 fails, they just werent funny

David Cameron (Prime Minister of Britain) got his bike stolen cos he did this
*facepalm*
HAPPY LAMPPOST LOOKS FOR BIKE TO STEAL!!
