Actually, no. Google used to direct people to swim across the Atlantic Ocean en route to France. Unless you mean it’s the first freeway fail…then perhaps.
Whats wrong with jumping the median? I mean if your a pedestrian it should be a piece of cake, and these directions are for pedestrians. The closest thing to a fail is that Google is sending peds walking on the highway.
Anything involving Google giving directions on highways in Texas is an automatic fail. I actually took that route to get to my friend’s house (minus the driving through a barrier part) and it gave me the wrong exit to get off the highway. It also told me to go 4 exits farther north on 35 to get to my hotel in Austin, than where the hotel actually was.
trouble is, considering that is in the USA, there will always be some idiot who follows such false instructions because he’s used to mindlessly following instructions (not doing that he considers unamerican), then crashes and then sues Google as well as the manufacturer of the concrete barrier…
OK first failure I notice is not even the driving over barrier picture
looking at the driving directions in bottom right corner the position and arrow point toward bottom left (180′ turn around) — I have never seen driving directions point downward – so I have limited faith in the whole picture
aside from the fact that the barrier was most likely recently erected — but YES – these maps (google/yahoo/mapquest) have problems – they used to have people drive though a private complex drive way to get to my house – instead of the normal streets.
the way these maps work is an electronic maze finder – 100000 tries till it finds one that connects – whether it makes sense or not is irrelevant
I have seen things like this on google earth before. Most of the time it’s a conflict between an old route and/or an old picture of the road. When I was in college my co-op was in a neighboring city and meant a less than enviable commute. Originally the road I had to drive was a crappy, two lane back-road that led to many MANY accidents a year. The state finally took the initiative and re-vamped the ill-devised roadway and opened it up to a 4 lane road with each side seperated by a healthy median. It’s been a while since I checked it so they might have added a new photo. But when I needed directions to the office the photo was of the original “killer” road but the over-lain route was the new 4 Lane safe road. So Google’s route had you driving about 15 feet off the side of the road through fields, ignoring the roadway.
Had this happen to me when I was getting directions to get out of Toronto. I didn’t know if the picture was old or if Google was stupid. Thank god I looked up alternate ways because it ended up being the latter.
I remember Google maps once had me turn onto a road, go up it about a 1/4 mile and then make a u-turn to go the other way (why I couldn’t have just turned the other way to begin with is beyond me). The amusing bit was in the street view where they wanted me to do the u-turn was right in front of a “No U-Turn” sign…
ay haz a fyrst

I don’t know why they would stop that if they still continue to direct people to kayak across the Pacific to reach Japan.
go google maps.
Failblog seems to have taken an awful turn
we all make our own paths in life.
The road to our destiny is often fraught with failure.
We all need to overcome barriers in our life to get where we need to go.
c-c-c-combo breaker!!
i believe i have work to do …
*pulls out hand-and-a-half sword*
4th?
I agree
4th
I disagree
I know these roads like the back of my hand…
*looks at the back of his hand*
WHAT IS THAT?!
Relax its your hand! watch the road!
I’m sorry but it looks like you have hand cancer.
At least it’s not ass cancer.
This would be the Dukes of Hazzard version of the app.
This is Houston, and with the caliber of drivers there, this is a perfectly legitimate instruction.
Or San Antonio, but same comment applies. (Houston is I-610.)
I was about to say mayne, gotta recognize that satx! 210 STAND UP
210 in the house. Btw 410 is not what it was 3 yrs ago. I’m sure that’s an old pic.
It’s a magic wall that u can go through.
Explains a lot — these were directions that Batman printed out for himself back in 2005.
I don’t see a problem here, I do that all the time.

I believe the driver put “Cementery” in the “Where do you wanna go?” which makes this a perfect WIN.
Concrete barrier? What concrete barrier? I don’t see any…ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD
Probably should have made that left turn at Albuquerque.
Fail? Obviously haven’t actually drove in San Antonio before!
Northeast San Antonio in the house.
Turn right, into concrete divider, then go 2.5 miles north.
At least it didn’t direct you through a bus-only tunnel: http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/local/3551919/Google-maps-off-course-with-walk-through-bus-tunnel
Turn then proceed to distort space…

/cool story bro

Google Maps is not very familiar with the new exits on 410. Especially west of 281. Where is this?

FAIL because you can tell Google maps what route by moving the path, even if you makes it go over a median -.-
That’s more the GTA method. This one highway has the same jump ramp things in the middle.
THIS is why we have car crashes.

The picture was probably taken during road construction when they had one side set to two way traffic while they repaved the other side.
Hehe…I live in San Antonio…yet, I die a little inside :/
No. No, I looked this up, and this does not give you these directions.
K.I.T.T., I need TURBO!
