Oh…lordy. This fail is going to be full of “FAKE” and “SHOOPED!” trolls. Let’s go hang out on the other fails…otherwise we’ll get alcohol/caffeine/sugar poisoning!
acually, this isn’t shooped nor is it a whale…it’s acually the penis of rare breed of super giant wallrus swimming upside down…he wanted to penetrate the boat…(and it looks like it worked):/
This was taken from CNN. The picture was taken by another boater who had been watching the whale playing in the area. There is legitimate coverage of the events.
Not real at all!!! If the whale really did crash into the sailboat the boat would no longer be afloat and the wreckage would not be in a neat pile. Also notice in picture one you see land in picture two no land in sight.
1. It’s called a keel.
2. It’s not a neat pile…the mast is broken and the rigging has held it all together.
3. Land would not be in every perspective or they would be in a pond.
4. Whales are not in ponds.
Dude you fail! How is it that there just happen to be someone ready to photograph the event. Also, notice that the captain of the boat isn’t too concern that a whale is about to smoke his boat’s a$$?! Also, if you were to drop 40 tons on a boat, I can bet that unless that boat is made of metal, it’s going to shatter.
Mmm you do know that even though you spent some time looking at the picture, the whale didn’t actually hang in the air for the same amount of time… Time VS. photos (or video-snips) doesn’t work that way, seriously!
some people like to try reeeeeal hard to prove something is fake even when it’s not. their sad little worlds would just crumble if they had learned that crazy shit really does happen.
sailboats for the most part are self righting, they usually only sink if there’s a hull breach. too bad there’s no video, but im sure the whale tipped the boat almost right over on its side. at which point it slid off back into the ocean (limping its tail no doubt). at which point the heavy keel on the bottom of the boat leveled it right out.
im a marine mechanical engineer, trust me
also on the ocean if you just turn around 180′ then you wont be looking at land anymore, no doubt an impact like that would alter the boats trajectory
not to mention, look how calm the water is. do you have a better explanation of how the mast and deck got trashed on a sunny day?
kudos to clari possum below for the news confirmation. do you have a link please. i really wanna hear this story.
Aside from the comments below, you don’t understand how photography works, 2nd picture being zoomed and therefore occluding detail due to the more narrow depth of field, and also higher apature to let more light in due to the more narrow depth of field creates a more specific focus point.
Asiden from that, what’s to say the photographer isn’t on a boat themselves.
I think this must happen more than people think. A few years ago I was dating a girl who’s mother had been dating a guy who got squished by a whale that jumped onto his 30ft sailboat. Squished him dead.
Yeah but apparently you mullets took the bait and watched it. I heard it had a lousy cast and the lead actor was a worm. I was sure it would sink so I watched a Bill Dance episode instead.
After the sail fail from from Gail, the fail whale, the male from Yale was pale and drank an ale, stepped on a nail, screamed “oh hail!” and then went to jail.
Yes, it’s real. Yes, the two people on the boat are fine, but only because they got lucky and were standing in the right spot not to get… well, squished. It’s been on the news and confirmed. The local officials are checking into it to make sure they weren’t in some way harassing the whale to cause it to do this to them. However, it sounds like the whale simply didn’t know they were there and breeched on top of them.
There was a science book about how all the whales and orcas and sea animals rise up to kill humans. They are controlled by bacteria from the deep deep sea.
time elapsing???? is that even possible?? it isn’t the same moment over and over?? waiteminet……….. is superman saying is fake!!! so you must believe him! he can fly around earth stop time elapsing and the two photos must have the same background, do not forget supeyboy, to fly around the earth counterclockwise, unless you want to fastforward time…….
I knew a guy who died when a whale breached on his fishing boat. the remains of the boat were found in two big chunks – the whale broke the boat in half. Protip: when whales are about, keep the engine running so that they know you are there. Otherwise they might not notice you and breach on you – bad for everyone involved. The engine won’t scare them away, usually they get really curious and come right up to the boat.
i was near galapagos islands for the whale migration, and a fricking whale, 3 times the size of my boat, pass right under us, had to admit, it looked absolutely amazing, scary yes, but amazing…..
its not really a fail, some guys boat got wrecked, and his day, and maybe got injured, and the whale was probably all confused n hurt. if it was a Greenpeace boat, that would be different.
Awesome. Photo WIN, boat insurance FAIL. I can hear the insurance claims person now: Rrriiiiiight, a whale ate your boat. And your name is Captain Ahab, I take it?
Not fake, and they think the whale is fine. The two people on the boat were in the right spot not to get hurt, themselves.
The news reports that local officials are checking to see if they were too close to the whale, or harassing it in some way. However they did not have their engines running (or didn’t have an engine at all, not sure) so the whale may not have sensed they were there when it breached out of the water.
Never assume people are being stupid (or douche-bags, to use your words), because accidents DO happen.
i have been thinking or its real or fake…
if it’s a fake, then whoever did it, did a good job!
that crushed boat has the same everything that the top one has, and the shadow under the whale is good too…
It’s often a good idea to scroll through the comments and at least look for links people have posted to prove that something is real or fake. If you had you’d find that 10 hours ago two different people linked two different articles showing that this is indeed real.
Whale story references for Paloma Werner, 50, of the Cape Town Sailing Academy, and her partner Ralph Mothes, who say the whale left a bit of blubber on their deck but appeared unhurt, with no blood in the water:
you fail, I said first one, meaning first hancock movie and implying the whale was again thrown by will smith again, since this would be the sequel you idiot, learn to read.
Of course you think it’s fake. Because you don’t watch the news, nor read ANY of the postings before yours which lead you to the news story about this very incident.
And two boats that cannot turn, and be pushed in a different direction by the wind or current? A random boat with exactly the same markings? A poster whose fingers are a lot faster than his failbrain?
Wow! You guys are really timely!
Oh…lordy. This fail is going to be full of “FAKE” and “SHOOPED!” trolls. Let’s go hang out on the other fails…otherwise we’ll get alcohol/caffeine/sugar poisoning!
I’m with you. We’ll let them sort it out amonst themselves.
acually, this isn’t shooped nor is it a whale…it’s acually the penis of rare breed of super giant wallrus swimming upside down…he wanted to penetrate the boat…(and it looks like it worked):/
Actually, it’s 100% real.
Whale ftw.
Try explaining this to the insurance company……………
Whale Win!!!!!!!!!!!!
seriously… no one has said anything about the fail whale yet?!… i expected so much more out of you all
roflmao
This isn’t a fail, 40 tonne whale versus boat. ahem, obvious. Its a whale win.
This was taken from CNN. The picture was taken by another boater who had been watching the whale playing in the area. There is legitimate coverage of the events.
They must have been trolls.
Hopefully.
Is this real?
It is. Actually, I think it happened today or mabye yesterday.
Not real at all!!! If the whale really did crash into the sailboat the boat would no longer be afloat and the wreckage would not be in a neat pile. Also notice in picture one you see land in picture two no land in sight.

You FAIL.

sorry for the broken link
Agreed. And for more proof of Me Me ME being a failbot, here’s the actual story:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/21/intrepid-yacht-whale_n_654485.html

Mmm video-camera win/comment fail combo!
Mmm you do know that even though you spent some time looking at the picture, the whale didn’t actually hang in the air for the same amount of time… Time VS. photos (or video-snips) doesn’t work that way, seriously!
wow double-Mmm there…
it was steel hull
in picture two theres a boat in the way
Furthermore, in picture two you CAN see land.
Well spoken, Ryan the second.
Your a class A idiot. This is reality, not your gameboy.
Are you talking about Failblog being reality?
There y’a go ^^
http://abcnews.go.com/International/slideshow/whale-crashed-boat-11216635
Actually, I saw this on the news today.
Yes I did, and it’s on MSN news!
some people like to try reeeeeal hard to prove something is fake even when it’s not. their sad little worlds would just crumble if they had learned that crazy shit really does happen.

You ‘tard.

Call in for your Prat award any-time.
What do you mean you can’t see the land?
Look in the upper-right corner and you can see the top of a hill
Um….boats are able to turn. People are able to drag wreckage bask on so it does not drag.
I think this must happen more than people think. A few years ago I was dating a girl who’s mother had been dating a guy who got squished by a whale that jumped onto his 30ft sailboat. Squished him dead.
True story folks. Back in the late 1990s the critics whaled on The Saint.
And rightfully so, that movie was awful!!
There really was something fishy about that storyline, and the acting didn’t hook you either.
Yeah but apparently you mullets took the bait and watched it. I heard it had a lousy cast and the lead actor was a worm. I was sure it would sink so I watched a Bill Dance episode instead.
heh. chums.
Shame, because the 60′s TV series starring Roger Moore was great.
That ain’t the saint, it’s his pouting efeminate cousin. That whale works for Copyright Protection Enforcement.
They’re gonna need a bigger boat.
LIKE! LIKE!
You win five internets.
Homie the whale – “homie don’t play that” **wham**
+1 for nostalgic humor reference!
wow that’s amazing….
FIRST
dangit… there were no comments before! anyway, yes, it’s real, I read about it in the news.
~wow you’re amazing….~
FAIL
~not only that, he was first too~
first
thats sad…
really sad, idiot win!
Poor
horsewhale!*snerk*
I was going to post a similar comment.
is it a fail whale or a whale fail? or a whale WIN???
I’d say whale win, sail fail.
After the sail fail from from Gail, the fail whale, the male from Yale was pale and drank an ale, stepped on a nail, screamed “oh hail!” and then went to jail.
You win ten internets.
Enough with the ten internet wins…I’m revoking your internet distribution privileges.
Whale watching at its finest.
They certainly got a real close look.
In Soviet Russia the Whale watches you.
Too obvious. You only win one internet.
Would this be a whale fail?
Also it is real and the 2 people on the boat are fine
They are fine? Whale fail then
Yes, it’s real. Yes, the two people on the boat are fine, but only because they got lucky and were standing in the right spot not to get… well, squished. It’s been on the news and confirmed. The local officials are checking into it to make sure they weren’t in some way harassing the whale to cause it to do this to them. Whale WIN!
Whale injured. Blubber on deck.
The last words of the poor whale: *emerge* “**** your co– er, I mean boat!” *crash*
I thought it was “I’m on a boat”
His mommy taught him to masticate his food.
Nice! Take a bow, AA!
And gave him a stern look when he didn’t.
And drink some port while you’re at it.
Where are the japs when we need them?
There was a science book about how all the whales and orcas and sea animals rise up to kill humans. They are controlled by bacteria from the deep deep sea.
Fail. You mean “science FICTION book.”
Yes, that is a fail on my part. I forget the fiction. It was not real for a long shot, lol. The news would be telling it before a book, lol.
I gave you the benefit of the doubt given the state of some text books these days.
The Whale: “I’m on a boat! I’m on a boat! Take a good hard look at the mutherf@cking boat!”
Well done.
Is this the new Pacific Life ad?
Met life actually. For the IF in life. Like What if a whale crushes me?
Your probably right, Pacific Life is more Whale porn than Fail boating…
Whales of the world decide to protest the continued making of Free Willy movies.
Whale 1, failboat 0.
Win.
the bp managers haven’t seen that one coming …
I’M SAILING!
What About Bob reference win!
AHOY!!
Son-of-a-b!tchin’ Bob.
AWAY! SET AN OPEN COURSE!!!
free willy??? is that u??? O_O
“Oh no, Free Willy didn’t make it, and he crushed our boy.”
“Ugh, what a mess.”
perhaps some trepidation would have been a good idea.
Whales are watching you!
“Wait! No! You want that guy named Ahab!”
its fake because first pic has a coast near by and second has a ship and no sign of land
Gee, maybe some time elapsed between the two photos?
Nah, that’s impossible.
time elapsing???? is that even possible?? it isn’t the same moment over and over?? waiteminet……….. is superman saying is fake!!! so you must believe him! he can fly around earth stop time elapsing and the two photos must have the same background, do not forget supeyboy, to fly around the earth counterclockwise, unless you want to fastforward time…….
Come back and try again when you can speak proper English, use grammar, and in some way make sense.
FAILBOAT MEETS FAIL WHALE
Whale: Intrepid, huh?
Sailor: We are going to need a bigger … ah screw it.
What’s up with the gay angel stick figure on the mast……
actually is the symbol from oldtime tv series “the saint” they made a movie later on…. tv series? rocks! …… movie? not so much
Er, that’s really a WIN … for the whale.
That’s a whaaale lot of trounle
sorry I meant “trouble”
)))
It turns out this one is real, it happened today (July 21st) near Cape Town, South Africa. Here is the CNN.com article:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/07/21/south.africa.whale.boat/index.html
It’s real.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/outposts/2010/07/sailboat-crushed-by-breaching-whale.html
did he die?
Don’t worry – the whale lived.
I guess he really whaled on that boat.
He’s big in Japan.
its not really a fail, some guys boat got wrecked, and his day, and maybe got injured, and the whale was probably all confused n hurt. if it was a Greenpeace boat, that would be different.
Whale fell
set sail for whale fail
check it out!
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/07/21/south.africa.whale.boat/index.html
This classes as fail? No, calling it fail is fail. The guy was just unlucky to have a fat whale jump on his boat.
Actually, I was thinking that if this excursion was actually intended to be a whale encounter, it’s not a fail. They got what they came for.
I’d be hesitant to call it a win, though. Unless you mean for the whale, especially if Richard Harris was on the boat.
I agree. It was an accident, not a fail. If it was a whaling boat, then it would have been a win.
winwhale, failboat
Failwhale, Winboat
Winwail, Fhaleboat
Whale win!
I know it’s a whale but… They could’ve used a bigger boat.
The whale was an atheist. He saw the stick figure Jesus and went berserk.
It should be a Fake Win.
This is the link to the news page this particular fail came from http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100721/od_yblog_upshot/beware-of-jumping-whales-when-sailing-off-the-coast-of-south-africa
Epic IMO. Win or Fail depends on the viewer.
Fail whale! Fwhale!
‘The Saint’ obviously didn’t have his guardian angel looking out for him on this sailing adventure.
(check the sail, pre-whale-smashy)
Yeah, the boat got damaged but poor whale!
guess the whale wanted to know how INTREPID was the boat
These animals are a protected species you really shouldnt park in their pond. if it was hurt badly you could get sued. I read it on tv. #Fail
Can’t believe no one has said it yet:
“Oh the Manatee!”
A better response would be “Oh the huge manatee!” but only of it was a manatee. On a side note, would this be the original failboat?
Nah, the original failboat was the Titanic
Touche, sir. Touche
Now that’s a whale of a fail…
A wild WAILMER appeared.
WAILMER used SLAM
It was super effective.
Awesome. Photo WIN, boat insurance FAIL. I can hear the insurance claims person now: Rrriiiiiight, a whale ate your boat. And your name is Captain Ahab, I take it?
Great… another reason for the Japanese to illegally poach whales..
What’s this here? Whaleblog?
Will Smith threw the whale at the boat for the Hancock sequel
Aquaman is just pissed at us about the BP spill and had a whale wreck the boat.
Failboat, meet your match: the fail whale.
This is only a test. I need to get my URL back to normal.
Oh Failboat I’ve missed you
I hope it’s fake. And if not I hope the whale was ok.
The douchebag in the yacht deserved it for not keeping his distance from the whales like you’re supposed to >:(
Not fake, and they think the whale is fine.

Obviously the whale isn’t a Roger Moore fan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Saint_%28TV_series%29

WAIL!
oh look, it’s the fail whale!
OMG it’s Jhen Mohran!
I’d rather call it “whale win”.
Hahahaha! Whale-watching is dangerous business! XD
OMG IT’S A FWAIL!
I cannot believe no one has made a Rosie O’Donnell joke…
just like the real intrepid,it didnt go down
obviously not the real Saint… Roger Moore would never have let this happen.
This is actually real, they did a whole segment on the news about it.
Pssst, Willy. Wrong sailboat. Tony Hayward is on the other one.
free willy
This is the sequel to Hancock, where Will Smith throws a whale and it hits a sailboat.
He did that in the first one…. -___-
You FAIL.
you fail, I said first one, meaning first hancock movie and implying the whale was again thrown by will smith again, since this would be the sequel you idiot, learn to read.
Whail?
Fake!
i think it’s fake
Of course you think it’s fake. Because you don’t watch the news, nor read ANY of the postings before yours which lead you to the news story about this very incident.

OMG, 2nd picture rules…Fail boat in the background showing Sailboat how it is done!!
So this is what happens when Twitter takes a piss
No fail whale here. Tis a win fin if you ask me.
YOU BASTARD! YOU’VE SUMMONED THE FAIL WHALE!
Looks real! Win for the whale!
Completely real and happened in Table Bay, Cape Town, South Africa.
Full details here: http://6000.co.za/boo/
Apparently, it’s everywhere on the news in Australia.
Has anybody noticed the stick figure on the sail in the first picture?
pic 1 a failwhale and a boat with land in the fa distance (background)
pic 2 a wreckage with no land instead a random boat
And two boats that cannot turn, and be pushed in a different direction by the wind or current? A random boat with exactly the same markings? A poster whose fingers are a lot faster than his failbrain?
Jesus, Right whales are dumb
fake pic….
i would rather say its a whale win XD
LOL its the Fail Whale!
the sail looks like the tag that 70′s graffiti artist STAY HIGH 149 always wrote with his tag on the NYC walls.
this should be on a t-shirt
Hey, there’s an angel in the sail
I actually think it’s a whale win.
For all of you who think this is fake
Just tell me the whale’s ok.
thats a whale of a fail
