I’d risk the 18 wheelers, maybe they stopped to watch the fire so I’d just ricochet off!
It opens close to the freeway, not right onto it. What it is saying is that you can’t jump out and keep running, otherwise you’d be running onto the freeway.

Maybe it’s a joke – I’ve seen retailers put up joking signs similar to this on Emergency Exits (“If you use this door you’d better be on fire”), mostly because there are a surprising number of absolute morons who use the door as a regular exit. Sometimes they use it to sneak stolen goods out (which just alerts us to their theft), sometimes they really are just that stupid – either way, it gets annoying to hear that door go off 18 times a day because someone can’t read. So if this IS a joke – WIN.
At Pic-N-Save they used to do it all the time. It was mostly would be shoplifters trying to sneak out with merchandise.
Using this door is so risky that you have to have a bloody good reason to think the risk is worth it.
Or sometimes we just don’t care about you and we go out that door anyway because it’s closer to the car.
That’s lame, Eric – learn to walk or buy one of those Rascal scooters.
By the way, did we forgot to mention the barbed wire and the minefield?

Seriously though I think this is an attempt to keep people from running out the emergency exit, and call it a win not a fail.

This sign is actually on the emergency exit of a helicopter. There’s a self-destruct switch next to the exit so you look cool when you jump out of it.

People who are too stupid to realise it is an emergency exit door in the first place, are probably too stupid to understand what the sign means anyway. People who are stealing stuff, aren`t going to take the time to stop to read the sign. Bear trap might be more effective. (I`m against using them on bears, but totally support ridding the world of a few stupid people)

I think similar signs like this were seen on the emergency exit doors at the WTC. Explained a lot of the jumpers… What, too soon?
