The bus is driving on the right lane, cars on the left, so they have to turn right when they are on the left lane. The bus itself have to change to the left lane, before he can turn right.
I think you can’t even turn left on this crossroad….
Oh, wow – I totally get this. Even picture it in my head… Which hurts now from thinking so scientifically about something like this! Ow – physics/logic just broke my thinkerbox.
I disagree. Given the look of the crossing, it would be logical to ask those who turn left to start from the right, so that they can turn without need to manoeuver.
And risks are mitigated by the fact that zipping is official in Austria and they do it with discipline.
Well, the writing of the word “Stop” changed to “Stopp” as a result of the German orthography reform of 1996 but this never affected the road sign “Stop”. First guess, because it is an international sign. Second guess, because it is too expensive to change every sign.
You sir, are the fail. It would still be causing cars to turn into eachother if it wasn’t a bus depot. They are not actually failing in real life, but your logic is.
That’s because of buses. One stands at the right lane and goes on to the left and behind this bus is another bus, he goes on to the right and when the bus which goes to the left is standing there, the one which goes to the right could not drive so they had to solve it in this way XD.

Yeah, fill us in. I’m with the “bus station exit” idea (or possibly the exit of an industrial facility that articulated trucks may be leaving thru).
As they need extra room to maneouvre, you have to keep well over to the right to go left around that wall, and over to the left to turn right and not clip the kerb.
Still, you’d think the average large vehicle driver would know all this already. Perhaps it’s a warning to any car drivers who have accidentally wandered up this way.
yeah you are quite right with your guess. Its the exit of larger bus station and the arrows are painted this way, because otherwise the bus couldnt go right. so cars aren’t permittet to drive there anyway. still i can understand that it reallly looks funny
it’s not a fail!
it’s read this way:
left arrow pointing to right indicates you need to move some to the right in order to view the vehicles coming from the left
right arrow pointing to left indicates you can only turn this direcction
it’s dangerous to turn right directly to the STOP sign cos vehicles coming from left behind you back can causes a collition
Read the comments, STOP signs are international, they are the same in the UK, in the US, in Spain, Holland, Belgium, France, Germany, Austria…need I go on?
Haha, yeah right, it’s fake? read the comments, several people have posted the answer.
This is a bus terminal in the city I live, right by the airport. It’s just a little loop beside the street with 2 bus stations, but for a long bus the turning angle of this crossheads to go back onto the street is to narrow, so they have to switch lanes to turn back onto the main street in either direction.
Now this is just crazy!
It makes me cross!

I’d just start screaming and leave the car.
Quit applying logic here; this itself is a fail.

Austria? Really? Why do the stop signs read STOP instead of STOPP?
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoppschild
because these street signs are international?!
is this sign language?
Well, the writing of the word “Stop” changed to “Stopp” as a result of the German orthography reform of 1996 but this never affected the road sign “Stop”. First guess, because it is an international sign. Second guess, because it is too expensive to change every sign.
I bet there’s alot of crashes there….;)
Reach the end of the street, ant proceed to crash into the car next to you…
Well, it’s a bus stop. ONLY busses are departing from there, it’s not a normal street.
The turning angle to the left and right is so narrow that busses that turn to the left _have_ to depart from the right lane and vice-versa.
Disappointing , I know…
46°39’03,26″N
14°18’50,81″E
Its a short one way passage for the busses to turn around…for a long bus the left turn is impossible…
