the driver had to pull ahead of the trailer next to him so the doors would be able to swing shut. should chocked the wheels on them there carts, oh well they get paid by the hour i’m sure…unlike the driver.
Just to inform you all, i worked as a truck un-loader for target, so i can tell you the trailers target uses all have a door that slides downward so he didn’t need to pull forward, it’s all based on someone giving a bad order, i have had one of these trucks drive off with me still in it because someone told the driver the truck was empty and closed
This truck does have the swinging shut doors. You can see the hinges on the side of the truck and at 0:45 as the truck pulls away you can see light between the side of the trailer and the door. The fail clearly lies with the loaders, they should have secured the load with a load bar or strap.
Um..you might have worked at Target, but if you clearly watch the video you can see that these doors swing from the side. The doors and hinges are clearly seen to the sides.
No if you watch the video you can see its the doors that swing open not slide down so as acromegliac said the driver had to pull forward to close the doors.
It’s gotta be a combo of all that. Because if all he was doing was pulling forward to swing the doors shut why did he keep driving instead of just pulling off enough to close the doors? They definitely should have chocked the wheels though.
Just got back from the doc’s office. I’m now on Zyrtec, Prednisone, Doxycycline Hyclate, and Domeboro. Nobody at the doctor’s office or at the pharmacy had ever seen a bee sting reaction like I’ve got. My entire finger is swolen and there’s a big red blister about an inch across.
Not sure what this has to do with carts falling out of trucks, but I “feel your pain”.
I had a neighbor show up at our house looking drunk. He’d been stung 30+ times by wasps and was having an allergic reaction. My toddler has food allergies, so we have an Epipen and I jabbed him in the leg with it – the ER people told me it probably saved his life. Then I had to take him back home looking even MORE drunk from the Benedryl, Prednisone, and whatever else they gave him. He was hitting on the nurses, the doctor, and anything remotely female at the drug store on the way home. FAIL.
I have no idea why but this made me laugh loads, I’ve watched it several times now and it’s still funny… something to do with how well the music goes with it.
I’m surprised this vid took so long to get posted here! I know exactly where this happened in Ohio. I talked to a manager there about the video getting passed around!
And kudos to the team who just stepped back and watched. Sometimes it’s much safer to not try to catch whats been dropped!
It’s a rewind, so it’s been up for a while in an older post.
True about not catching falling things, it’s what my auto shop teacher told us when he was talking about lifting engines with the crane. In case of failure just let it drop. You don’t want to lose a foot or a hand for something that will be damaged anyway.
I’ve gotta admit, as a Target employee there is a strange satisfaction in watching all those carts fall out. And yet I cringe a bit too, because you just know that the people who f’d it up aren’t the ones who got stuck with the cleanup.
This is either fake (look at there expressions and body language) or they are stupid. How do you not shut the back door for the truck!? ugh, stupidness
this is from the fields ertel, ohio target, just north of cincinnati. i used to work at the milford, ohio store and one of the AP dudes showed me this video the day after it happened. gotta love knowing the guys in it, and knowing how stupid they are to not put a pallet or anything behind the carts so they won’t slide.
Not sure, but it does not look like that truck has any logistics hook-up (holes in the sides of the trailer to hook bars or straps onto). Although a piece of wood across the back probably would have held them in place until the doors could be closed, even if it was not nailed down (looks like there is a plate at the back of the trailer as well)
This looks staged.. no activitiy like yelling HEY STOP when the truck pulls off, just sitting as though to say.. yes this is what we thought would happen.
Not a chance the driver could hear something like that until it was too late. Trucks are quite loud and there are normally several of them running at a loading dock. Plus add the length of a 53-foot trailer and then some between the driver and the loaders.
Only chance would be for someone standing outside to signal at him, but that person would be in front of the truck and likely not notice until it was too late.
I work in warehouse/receiving environments. The thing is that the door cannot often be shut AT the dock.
There are two DOORS which SWING around the sides of the truck. Being backed to the wall means the doors cannot POSSIBLY close.
However, I will agree that something should have been wedged beneath the wheels of the furthest back carts, for just that reason. And the driver should have pulled off much more slowly. Both of those things, not just one.
Yup. Long time ago I was an 18-wheeler driver. On most trailers these days the doors swing shut and therefore can’t be shut while backed against the dock. The fail here is that something wasn’t put in place to keep them from rolling out.
I have hauled brand new shopping carts from the factory in South Richmond, Va. It is standard practice for the driver to apply his load straps prior to leaving the dock. And it is normal to have a second layer of carts sitting on top of cheap thin plywood sheets. That said, I have also delivered product from Canada to Target Stores Distribution Centers. Each
site is as different in their demeanor from each other. At most centers they do not allow outside contract drivers anywhere near their inside dock areas. In one case they were incensed that I was late because US Customs had delayed me and many other drivers for reasons never explained. These Target clowns took a jack knife and cut off the cargo straps rather than use a little effort to undo the ratchets. My company paid for my new ones purchased at the next truck stop, and I submitted the cut ones as proof, then these were submitted to the original product vendor along with the bill. I never heard if Target ever received the bill and paid for the dock foreman’s tantrum, but I and other drivers refused to go to that type of customer after any such treatment. It does not take very long before upper management has to make a decision on their staffing when many companies refuse to deliver to a specific site. Life is too short to put up with cranky employees at finicky customers. There are enough good sites to keep the professional freight forwarders busy.
In all fairness, I delivered regularly to 2 other Target DCs and they were a pleasure to deal with on all accounts! But for Walmart, I only found one site that was even reasonable. Costco, Coca Cola, L’Oreal and K-Mart were always good to their suppliers load carriers, too!
Finally, freight docks are a serious safety problem area, as many industrial deaths and maiming injuries have occurred at this position of an organizations operation. There are safety practices that must be in place, and rigorously followed so that everyone can go home after shift in one piece! Some States and Provinces have proper legislation to this effect, and others are more lax.
This video should trigger some disciplinary action and some retraining, Pronto.
Normally, under no circumstances should a wagon (loaded or otherwise) be allowed to pull away from the docking bay until the DOCKING bay door has been closed.
There is usually a traffic light on the outside of the door (where the driver can see it in his side mirror) that changes from Green to Red when the door opens and from Red to Green when the door is closed.
The Green light tells the driver that everyone is out of his truck and that it is safe to leave.
This is basic heath and safety to prevent anyone entering the truck when it is about to leave, or indeed falling out of the open door on to the concrete below. (it happens, even with forklift trucks driving out of open doors.)
So my guess it is ENTIRELY the driver’s fault for not checking the dock was safe to leave (and in doing so would have seen the load not strapped in).
It is also the driver’s SOLE responsibility to ensure his load is properly secured, so whether or not the loaders were supposed to strap it in is completely irrelevant.
*sits back down in pedant’s corner and lights a smoke*
Actually, I have never sen that. The signal light indicates that the dock lock (gadget that grabs the ICC bumper (aka “DOT bumper) of the truck to keep it from pulling away) is engaged (red) or released (green). Some can be turned red by a switch to indicate that the dock is closed.
Security of the load is always the driver’s responsibility, but there are some ambiguity problems because some places won’t allow the driver on the because he or she might use the restroom.
they didn’t want to leave
That was exactly what they wanted, of course…
why are you so sure?
this explains all the target shopping carts around town… i once saw one in the river… no seriously!
Somebody needs to use his brain!!!!
Hey guess what, I’ve seen this one before
What the comment or the video?
The shopping carts i guess
It’s a ‘Friday Rewind’ so of course you’ve seen it before.
Not going anywhere for a while?
hmm maybe someone should have taken a physics class or paid a little more attention .. *shame*
And I hate to return ONE shopping cart.
*pours Imodium™ in the truck’s fuel tank*
the driver had to pull ahead of the trailer next to him so the doors would be able to swing shut. should chocked the wheels on them there carts, oh well they get paid by the hour i’m sure…unlike the driver.
EXACTLY!!
I am paranoid of this – and I always lock my load bars in place before pulling out.
Just to inform you all, i worked as a truck un-loader for target, so i can tell you the trailers target uses all have a door that slides downward so he didn’t need to pull forward, it’s all based on someone giving a bad order, i have had one of these trucks drive off with me still in it because someone told the driver the truck was empty and closed

my bad, i guess the delivery trucks and the cargo trucks are different, i never had to load a bunch of carts into a truck so i don’t know
Um..you might have worked at Target, but if you clearly watch the video you can see that these doors swing from the side. The doors and hinges are clearly seen to the sides.
No if you watch the video you can see its the doors that swing open not slide down so as acromegliac said the driver had to pull forward to close the doors.
lighten up guys, have a giggle & MOVE THE F*** ON
It’s gotta be a combo of all that. Because if all he was doing was pulling forward to swing the doors shut why did he keep driving instead of just pulling off enough to close the doors? They definitely should have chocked the wheels though.
nvm. The trailer next to him. yeah. observational skills. Still simple solution: shoulda blocked the wheels.
I love how they just stand there while this is happening, and I bet the driver got a suprise
I think they all really wanted to see that after all. It does look amusing how those carts roll out so smoothly.
Looks like only the driver got carried away.
The female truck releases thousands of carts into the open road and hopes a male will fertilize them.
hahaa comment win xD
Isn’t nature beautiful?
Our intrepid cartographers were there to record this rarely seen event.
Who knew that trucks were cartilaginous creatures?
I would’ve responded sooner, but Failblog’s being a little buggy.
A rogue cartoon hand! Nice to you you!
*thumbs up!*
Must see to this double vision…
*gets carrot from Dragon’s veggie cart*
(I thought I was the Dee Double You around these parts!)
*squeezes Rogue*
Long time no see, bud.
*beep beep*
Land Shark!
ahhhh, the circle of life
Oh man, that possibly the best comment in the history of comments.
Life’s a moving Target…shopping cart.
Close the cargo bay doors, HAL!
I’m sorry, Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that.
What’s the problem, HAL?
Does anybody know the song?
wondering the same thing… and knowing it’s not a multitude of other late-80′s-early90′s themes….
frak.
The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading only.
No parking of shopping carts in the white zone.
I know what this is about. You want me to get an ABORTION!
Expect more shopping carts. Pay less attention.
Don’t stop rolling out the red.
Owie! Was it a regular run-of-the-mill bee, or was it something more sinister?
Bees scare me. I’m not horribly allergic, but I have a stronger reaction each time I’m stung. DO NOT WANT.
You may need a shopping cart to hold that finger off the floor. Thankfully, I know a guy who has a few hundred that fell off the back of a truck.
Cool story bro. But seriously, what does this have to do with the video?
Err… Cloral’s blister was red, and the Target carts are red?
Sorry, that’s as close as I can figure it
Not sure what this has to do with carts falling out of trucks, but I “feel your pain”.
I had a neighbor show up at our house looking drunk. He’d been stung 30+ times by wasps and was having an allergic reaction. Love the music combo.
Damn those trollies! They never go where you want them to.
Did people die?
Just the carts.
and the drivers pride
Haha! Yes, I believe 5 people, unseen, were fatally injured in this video.
so, which trolly do yah want , eh?
I have no idea why but this made me laugh loads, I’ve watched it several times now and it’s still funny… something to do with how well the music goes with it.
…oh actually the bottle of wine might have something to do with it.
I guesws he won’t be making that delivery on time LOL!
Definite basic physics win
I thought the rollbacks were only at Walmart.
Whooaaaaa
I would say it’s a Shopping Cart WIN
You can’t close the doors until you pull away from the dock…..
Sounds like a system fail.
Not only roll back prices… but roll back shopping carts too!
They had no choice but to get the truck a bit forward to close the doors…Doors are on sides of the truck.
Aye.. a couple of load bars (carried behind the cab) placed across the back would have prevented it..
So THAT’s how all the cart wheels get bent up.

EPIC INERTIA WIN!
would have been a win if they were trying to unload
Da trollies made their escape at last
I canna’ change the laws of physics!
Haha! I think I know that guy on the left…
Inertia win.
Expect MOAR, Pay In Dignity
I’m surprised this vid took so long to get posted here! I know exactly where this happened in Ohio. I talked to a manager there about the video getting passed around!

Would be better without the stupid music dubbed in.
Newton win
Inertia at its best
And guess who has to go pick them all up… Me, the under paid, over worked, cart attendant
I’ve gotta admit, as a Target employee there is a strange satisfaction in watching all those carts fall out. And yet I cringe a bit too, because you just know that the people who f’d it up aren’t the ones who got stuck with the cleanup.
Oops, I didn’t mean to reply here and yet it worked out rather well anyway.
This is either fake (look at there expressions and body language) or they are stupid. How do you not shut the back door for the truck!? ugh, stupidness
They cant close the doors of the truck untill it moves away from the loading dock as the doors are hanging on the sides of the truck
Mass inertia? What’s mass inertia? Damn you, physics!
Thank you for the 1st Newton Law that gives us this FAILS!
And it just keeps going, and going, and going, and just when you thought it was about to stop…. it keeps going some more.
This is going to come in handy when it’s time to teach about inertia in physics class.
Love how the music seems to say: Better luck next time, pal.
the guy on the left is f*cking cute!
YOU CAN’T CLOSE THE DOORS… ITS A SWING DOOR TRAILER… YOU CAN ONLY CLOSE THE DOORS WHEN YOU GO FORWARD CLEAR PAST THE TRAILERS NEXT TO YOU.
this is from the fields ertel, ohio target, just north of cincinnati. i used to work at the milford, ohio store and one of the AP dudes showed me this video the day after it happened. gotta love knowing the guys in it, and knowing how stupid they are to not put a pallet or anything behind the carts so they won’t slide.
thats not a FAIL thats a WIN

Although a piece of wood across the back probably would have held them in place until the doors could be closed, even if it was not nailed down (looks like there is a plate at the back of the trailer as well)
is it a shopping cart fail?
or is it an unloading win?
This looks staged.. no activitiy like yelling HEY STOP when the truck pulls off, just sitting as though to say.. yes this is what we thought would happen.

This explains why EVRY FRIGGEN CART AT EVRY FRIGGEN Target has @#$%^&*()’d up wheels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate to argue with the experts (hey I’m just a dumbass OTR driver) but the truck in the video hqas swing doors that can’t be closed in that dock.
And even if it had a pull down door, it would be insane to have those carts un-secured against the door when they try to open it.
Good news–last time I heard of this actually happening, it was food carts full of tubs of food.
I’ll give you that looks like there might be an interior curtain that was not pulled down.
Whoops!

What a tragedy. *Wipes tear*

inertia: you’re doing it right.
i hate the commercials on this now! wtf! no move videos for me.
lolz!
Ooh, pretty!
Holy crap man… the video ads are annoying.
