I glassblow and the reheating drum is called a gloryhole. I still laugh about it.
Gloryhole seems to be difficult to get through. Don’t hurt yourself there!

Well, I know another meaning of the word which totally kills the comedy of this picture. Knowledge sometimes fails…

It’s the sink hole on the top side of dams to avoid overflowing when water level gets too high.
Or the oven you put glass into to make it malleable.

Not uncommon. Alta, Wolf Creek, Big Mountain, and Aspen to name a few all have glory hole runs.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they did this on purpose. I know one ski resort where all the paths are named after alcoholic drinks.
