I want to tell you about a friend of a friend who lives in Sweden. She has a little doggie named Silver who was attacked by a wolf . The brave little doggie survived the brutal attack, but he suffered horrendous wounds, including spinal cord damage.
Silver is recovering, but his human does not have a wallet as big as his heart, and the vet bills (even after the insurance) are HUGE
The Cheezpeeps are trying to raise $1000 to help with the vet bill.

no, i see this all the time. this is fairly typical for SEPTA. their buses are filthy, rarely on schedule and the employees are the rudest people i have ever met.

You people are soooo prejudiced! How can you tell from a photo that the bus is actually *emitting* the smoke? It could well be sucking it in in order to clean the environment…
The black smoke is coming form the tailpipe for sure. That’s just the nature of diesel. The gray smoke is not from the bus it seems.

I’m not quite sure of the OP has ever heard of Biodiesel, but it is a cleaner alternative to burning actual diesel.

You must not know them well. That is most definitely a hybrid, as it has a battery pack on the roof.
i am a biochemical scientist and although that looks bad for the enviroment it is actually good its a complicated science you see if you can see its is safer but if you cant its not but this fail is a fail because the picture is true that is a cleaner emission.

Septa’s hybrid buses are diesel-electric. There should NEVER be a plume of black smoke from a properly functioning diesel bus in Philadelphia, hybrid or not.

(The clean-emission buses use hydrogen fuel cells. Only clean vapour emits out and not heavy smoke.)

It is a fail, that bus is having engine problems, that is a CNG engine bus (compressed natural gas) made by Gillig, all their CNG powered buses have that large white cover over the roof of the bus, the diesels made by Gillig have a flat roof all the way back and on all their 2007 and newer diesels they have a disperser tip on the exhaust that resembles a wide rectangular vent outlet.
Wrong. It’s a Cummins ISL coupled to an Allison HDU. Standard highway diesel is used in these buses.

In fact, this is an ignorance fail for whoever posted the picture. If you can see exhaust that means that it’s larger carbon particulate matter, which also means it’s not nearly as bad pollution as the smaller stuff. Most diesels will produce this effect.
Basically you’re a moron for thinking a bus using Diesel fuel isn’t green…
Ignorance and confidence is a dangerous combo.
“Most diesels” that produce black smoke like this would be polluters and should certainly not be sporting a “cleaner emissions” logo.

What’s coming out of the tailpipe of that “clean air hybrid bus” looks like the black smoke on Lost…
I actually know the person who took the original. He’s an Air Pollution Inspector that works for the city. It is in no way doctored. That is a hybrid bus that is putting out blackened emissions beyond what they’re regulated to produce by permit. They were issued a violation and fined for it.

Chances are, this picture was taken before the drastic detunes of all the hybrid buses. They were well past the black smoke limit, but were extremely quick. After the fuel was pulled lean, they now take off extremely slow, but have very little, if any, black smoke.
Well, if that bus replaced a gas powered bus it actually would be fewer emissions, even though it doesn’t appear to be.
I believe this bus is out of AdBlue. Thus, it gives out such a black smoke.
Interestingly enough yes it is cleaner emissions. The heavyweight hydrocarbons that make up the black smoke trap the lighter more harmful carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide molecules.
That being said when the engine is not being run hard the emissions are clear. The biodiesel it runs on produces less CO than gasoline. It does however produce more CO2.
Doesn’t run on biodiesel.
Its kinda sad… I live in Philly and I’ve never seen ONE bus that DIDN’T poop out black gas! PHILLY FAIL is more like it!!!
