I actually looked this vid up about a year ago. It was a guy and his young son. He managed to get his passenger side door open to shove his son out of the way and he was able to squeeze into the passenger seat before the roof came crashing down. It completely squashed the driver side of the truck.. it is completely amazing to me how close he came to instadeath.

Nice to hear no one got hurt – last thing wanted to do was laugh.
Have to wonder/blame the guys who build that overhang. *That* just shouldn’t have happened.
That’s what I wondered too, but if look at the video a second time in slow motion (clicking the play-pause button several times) you can see the roof collapse just before the cab instead of squeezing it. I think this is the driver’s mistake : he was probably aware of his height but understimated the width of what he was towing.

if you look at the video closely, you can see that it only hit a small part of the driver side of the car. he wasn’t trying to pull in, he was going to the other side of the parking lot but a corner of the trailer got caught.
If you watch the video, it merely skims the drivers side door…the camera isn’t so lucky.

This is my home town! The guy and his son were passing through town (and they both survived). The brick columns supporting the awning were free standing with the awning just sitting on top. It’s a surprise that a strong gust of wind didn’t blow it down before this!

Look very closely, the end of the roof is shown knocking off the side mirror. This must mean that the roof just barely missed the cab. Sorry to disappoint any sick people out there, but the passengers didn’t die, their truck just got owned…
Actually im pretty sure it flattened the roof of the truck. Look closely and also watch the video frame by frame and it looks like the truck got crushed which probably DID kill the passengers. It doesnt make me a sick person to say this, its just that it looks like thats what happened.
