His expression is due to him clenching his teeth around the whistle and looking for the bottom guys shoulders touching the mat. My son wrestled in high school of which I attended many of this matches, and this look is one of someone paying close attention to the match and being ready to blow the whistle to end it.

I don’t find it funny either, or particularly tasteful. The idea that “everyone’s a paedophile, a thug and a rapist” is going to get the world nowhere.
As for sports officials, I have firsthand experience with societies ill treatment. Referees are now required to take courses teaching us such things as: How to approach a downed player on the pitch (Do not, it can be misconstrued as inappropriate contact); Interacting with players in any way other than rule enforcement – “good job kid”, “nice kick”, “Don’t worry about the parents screaming, you were not out of position.” (Do not, it can be misconstrued as inappropriate contact). We were even instructed not to take off our sweats or change into cleats anywhere near the fields or locker-room. This included jackets. Needless to say, I no longer ref.

I also coached U8 trough U19. Our league adopted a rule forcing each child to have a primary care giver present at all games and practice events. It was insisted on by any insurance company for coverage. No parent, no insurance.

Hmm, I’d assumed the fail was kids of that age being expected to engage in sports competitively enough to require a uniformed referee. They barely even look school-age – I’d expect kids of that age to be allowed to play, not made to compete.
Do you see the kids behind them in the bleachers? These aren’t preschoolers. They may be young, but at least they’re getting some exercise and learning some skills.

Believe me, we’re doing what we can. This day and age people jump all over people who have been accused of being a molester. If you tick just the wrong person off, they can have your butt in jail very quickly without proof! I’ve seen it happen first hand. So how do you tell the true pedos from the accused? That’s the hardest part, and a part people fail at daily. 60% of all cases are innocent, but people don’t care because they think that it’s better to be safe than sorry. They don’t realize what happens to the kids. For every innocent person thrown in jail for molestation, an even more innocent child is sexually molested in a legal way. They take the child from the family and if they cannot find any physical evidence, they do a forensic search on the child, thereby doing exactly what they’re trying to fight.
The system needs to be fixed in order to help the children, rather than doing more harm than good as it is now!
(I also find it intriguing that sexually molesting a child is a misdemeanor, but having porn is a federal offense…)
So basically, you’re saying that it is stupid to try to fix a small problem if you could instead try to fix a larger problem. If you’re applying this logic to your life, you’ll never get anything done, because there’s always a bigger problem you could tackle instead. Nothing like watching children try to behave in a way that maturity of intent and body requires. Arguably trying to teach children to behave like adults in an adult sport is a form of child abuse.
If we are concerned about them getting enough exercise, I say we let them (or tell them to if they are too lazy and computer game-addicted) to run around and play the games they want to before we start trying to inculcate them in adult-like sporting events.
This kind of spectacle is not for keeping kids fit, it’s for keeping adults amused. Who is kidding who here.

Here’s the thing, there are literally millions of people out there who will believe anything they see and/or hear. All it takes is for this photo to get added to another site. You said you posted it on your Facebook account, so it’s obvious that WILL happen.

I personally found this hilarious. I wrestled in high school for 3 years, and you dont understand how many wrestling jokes there are. Its just funny, the guy has an awkward look on his face, nothing more, nothing less. I had plenty of awkward wrestling pics in awkward poses. And I look at them and laugh, because its awkward. However, the minute Failblog put that “Chester” heading on it, it became actionable in law because it carried the direct implication that the referee was a pedophile. I can tell you, as a media lawyer, that he would have walked all over Failblog had he chosen to.
The test in libel law, which applies online just as readily as in print or broadcast, is whether or not “a jury of fair-minded individuals would consider that the reputation and standing of the individual had been damaged in the eyes of his peers”. You might or might not decide that being labelled a pedo is damaging. I know what I think. Whether or not some of you thought it was funny is irrelevant as far as the law of libel is concerned.
