Yup, I agree. I’ve seen a few shops, too (and worked in some as well); the reflections are all wrong, and the picture of the x-ray doesn’t match a sagittal view of a zebra’s skeleton.

Besides… an eye chart, fire hose and pickaxe in an X-ray room, and the radiologist wearing a pre-electric-light dentist’s head-mirror?! Madness. As soon as the auditors come round, this hospital is being shut down “effective immediately”. I don’t even wanna think what their Radiotherapy, Chemo or Nuclear Med departments look like. (Ultrasound, Dialysis and Surgery would be horrific)

Well, I’ll admit that the eye chart is indeed amusing… That said, some of the other comments posted here need careful evaluation. Sure, it’s bizarre to see zebras in refrigerators (by the way, look carefully and you’ll realize it isn’t a fridge but the artist’s attempt at drawing the X-ray film plates albeit not an accurate depiction) but if you observe the page more thoroughly, you’ll see in the top right hand corner, in circles, “Xx” and “Yy” and my suspicion is that “Zz” is originally there too. In other words, the alphabets are taught in this book and the objects/animals displayed will need to start with “X”, “Y”, or “Z”. Hence why “X-ray” (as well as “ax”, which sounds very similar to “X”) for “X”, “yak” for “y” (many commented on the zebra but no one did for the yak?), and “zero” and “zebra” for “Z”. My impression is that the author/artist tries to group all these together by coming up with an illustration like the one we see in the picture: some sort of veterinarian clinic – though I’m not sure why the ax is there (maybe to be used in times of emergency to break the fire alarm glass panel?)… It’s not easy to just think of something to group these various ideas/concepts together but at least the author/artist has given it a shot…

I teach English in China. With they way the locals butcher things from they west things like this are deserved. When I get a group of salty students who don’t care about learning I’ll teach them things such as Cancersticks (cigarettes).
People here generally don’t care about what something says, just that it says it in English. I had a 7 year old boy come into class wearing a shirt that said, “College Rule #137: Not remembering is the best part.”
