in the official crsuh report of dutch flight inspection, the blame of that flight was directed to the boeing firm… there was an extreme fog in the air without any possiblity to land the plane by just looking out to the window of the cockpit. and the electronical landing device which is a default boeing was faulty and it was the accident of boeing and its technical service. the herous pilots saved almost all the passangers with an emergency flight, without tyres. only the cabin crew and 3-4 passangers were dead. in the front row of the cabine.

Yes, and the official investigation report also brought to light that the altimeter had failed 2 times before in the last 25 hours, that the pilots still decided to use the autoland, and that they didn’t notice they were stalling until it was too late. It’s not that when the altimeter fails all other instuments are also useless or that you cannot fly the plane anymore. Also, it’s not as if almost every airline in the world flies these planes, which all have the same altimeter problem.
It’s a gigantic fail in my book. The fact that Boeing now gets the full blame does not mean the pilots didn’t fail, and definitely not that they are heroes. For one, many airlines stopped doing autolands with bad visibility months before altogether, because incidents had been reported with the altimeters.
The latest investigation results cleared the pilots. It was not a piloting issue. I think the reports released last month.

sounds about right for THY (Turk Hava Yollari/Turkish airlines), I used to live in Turkey for a number of years, and their fleet (at least then, not sure about now) was entirely composed of second and third hand planes. This was pre 9-11 when rules were still relaxed and as an aviation-mad teenager I frequently used to ask to go visit the cockpit and chat with the pilots, and most on our regular routes got to know me pretty well. Many of the planes woul have the red’n'white livery painted on the outside, but because of budget constraints, the interior would be composed of a mixture of seats from old British Airways and Lufthansa aircraft!
I remember getting on board a THY aircraft from London Heathrow to Istanbul, and noticing that one of the engines sounded *really* rough. Later on when I got to go up to the cockpit I thought about asking the (elderley English) pilot about it, but before I could he proudly told me that this was (at the time) the youngest plane in the fleet, at only 27 years old. He was so proud of it bless him that I couldn’t bear to mention any of it’s flaws lol.
Don’t worry. It’s changed a lot since then. Now they are one of the best airlines in Europe and maybe in the world.

The ad is an epic fail. But no need for flaming against the company. Just go to wikipedia, check the number of accidents for, say, last 20 years. Compare it with “better” airlines. You will see THY has the least number of accidents almost in every case. I go between Nice/France and Istanbul/Turkey a lot. THY is way better than Air France — and I am French.

The picture was taken in Muscat, Oman. The agency that is responsible for this project had a breakdown of their internal approval systems that resulted in the supplier being misinformed about the correct way to adhere the signage in question. The sign was taken down after 2 days, with an apology letter from the agency. A correct version of the sign http://i50.tinypic.com/v5lc0h.jpg had displayed for a month.

It’s the fault of the agency so it is not fair to accuse Turkish Airlines and compare the ad with the tragic accident.
