Not really that much of a fail.
I guess it was a an escalator once and they decided to convert it into regular stairs. old one broke, to many accidents, too expensive, too noisy, whatever…
And instead of rebuilding the whole thing they used the structure of the escalator.
Yeah and I think it’s a win, not a fail.

Actually not. I know where this was taken. This is the stairway from floor 2 to floor 3 in one of the malls in the greenhills shopping complex in San Juan, Manila.
The money ran short while constructing the building so the owner scrapped the planned escalator and had it converted to a stairway, they simply used the escalator sides because it was cheaper than getting stair railings and a new permit!
it’s actually the 3rd floor to the 4th floor XD
its obviousely was never a pair of stairs. americans are so lazy that they’re mind starts tricking them into seeing labor saving devices to save they’re fat arses. its the minds way of saving itself

Yeah, this was when Vmall was still new. I remember seeing this and thinking “Jesus Christ, wtf???”. I still wonder what they were thinking here though, it was pretty f’d up.

have you been to the topmost floor of the Mall? that’s where it is… the other escalator is an actual escalator… dunno why they skimped out on this one… >_<

Realistically? It’s probably going to look like, “Oh, good, stairs. I’m glad it’s not an escalator; if I took an escalator, people would stare at me and think, ‘Why aren’t you taking the stairs, fatty?’”
I’m pretty big. I have no trouble going up old fashioned stairs. I don’t get out of breath while some of the skinnier people beside me will (much to the dismay and embarrassment of people watching the “fatty”, I’m sure). I do it all the time – if there’s stairs in a store I won’t use an escalator or elevator. I hate them both.
I love being big and in better shape than skinnier people.

lol u guys all suck its just a normal escalator painted yellow, look at the edege of the bottom section, and there are marks and shit also the bottom of each stair is curved. lol fail for the uploader.
I hope you are kidding, or you don’t understand how an escalator works. I would really rather not get into the science of it so i will just assume you are in fact kidding. in that case. haha
It wasn’t an escalator yet man. I know it’s weird but, back then, the mall was still being constructed (stores on the upper floor were still being done) and, for some reason, they added escalator railings but kept the stairs there. It was even tiled. Its a real escalator now though, but I’m still pretty confused with the management’s stupid idea haha

This is from VMall .. The mall has 4 floors of commercial space but when it started there were little tenants on the 4th floor which made the idea of putting the 4 escalators going up to a low traffic floor costly. I think 2 out of the planned 4 escalators are in place since there are more tenants now on the 4th floor

This is what happens when Escalators fossilize.
People are going to stand at the bottom and wonder, “Why aren’t I getting anywhere?” Sneaky way of getting people to exercise though, I like it.
But… aren’t escalators supposed to move? Or do you need to ask help or a staff member so they’ll turn it on?

oh man I actually saw that stairs when I was in the Philippines! I was trying to go to the top floor, and then I was like WTF!? I nearly tripped since I took the escalator up and I thought the next one is going to be an escalator. I didn’t pay attention much since I just saw the escalator rail.
It’s really hard to get used to going up the stairs with an escalator railings lol
This is a total win, because the fat people win walk over to it, going “Oh, there’s an escalator”, then get all pissy when they find out they have to actually do some physical activity. And I’ll sit on the bench laughing at all of them…. WIN!
