It was in Bonsal, NC, this past summer. The driver was having an adverse reaction to blood pressure meds-he was basically asleep, he had no idea what he was doing. He had already sideswiped a car. It was good luck that he was stopped by the train.

This accident happened at the New Hope Railway (Moncure, NC) earlier this year. The backstory that enhances the “failness” of the incident is the fact that the train is travelling about 7 mi/hr and is a converted passenger train with many, many people on board. People on the train were clearly visible and the car passed the train ride entry point before crashing into the arriving train.

My husband was the fireman on the loco that day. The driver of the car was having an adverse reaction to blood pressure meds. No one was injured.

It’s a holiday “polar express” train. Was on it (not during this incident) but I recognize the crossing and up ahead you’ll see stairs that lead to a small platform where people get on/off. Lots of people are filming during this ride, especially if its the old steam engine in use.

Perfectly good reason to have a camera pointed at the car.
Since the train is on a curve you can see there is older rolling stock in the consist that indicates that this was either a railroad museum train or a historical excursion, the fellow with the camera is in the cupola of a caboose and taking video of the train by leaning out the cupola with the camera angle putting the car near dead center of the shot.
How the dumba$$ driving the car missed something as huge as a train all I can think of is drunk,texting/cell phone or just dumb as a box of hammers.
