The fight for political correctness destroys all logical thought in many people. Fail Blog was making a point about the Washington Post’s racism, and “Because they all look alike, right?” is something Fail Blog is suggesting that that’s what the Washington Post employees thought.
I am saddened that I had to explain this.

We should point out that the Post isn’t being racist at all here (I’m not sure anyone is). This appears to be from Google’s news aggregator, which frequently pairs random pictures with links to unrelated stories. This is a funny coincidence – that’s all, really.
For god’s sake, it’s just a joke….

Not an AP fail. The lead article is from AP, and the picture is clearly marked Washington Post. Possibly a Google News fail, but as jarlen points out, Will Smith is involved in the Nobel ceremonies too, so the aggregator isn’t wrong in putting that picture with that group of articles.
I thought that too. Will Smith attended the ceremony with his family, so the Google News team presumably picked a generic photo from an article mentioning him.

It’s still a fail. Fails don’t have to be mistakes. They can be unintentional perceptions of what was done. Posting a photo of one person on a story about another is a Fail. Even if, once you go to the story, you realise they were connected somehow.

That’s why you’ll notice that the article says The Associated Press and under Will Smith it says Washington Post.
I really laughed out loud because it was funny. At first glance it IS funny, despite the verbiage underneath. And even after reading it and the comments, I still think it’s funny.

if anything, this is a Google News mistake– not an AP mistake. the story is from the AP; the photo is from the Washington Post. Google simply posted a photo from the Post article, which had a photo of Will Smith, who was pictured in the Peace Prize story.

Actually, it’s not always racist if you have trouble recognizing black people (or people of any other ethnicity, including white people, for that matter).
First, different ethnicities have different facial features that we can use to dissociate people from one another.
You learn to look at these features automatically for a specific ethnicity when you meet people of that ethnicity on a regular basis.
So for example, a person who meets only white people on a regular basis will learn to automatically take note of specific facial features of the people they meet, so as to recognize them at a later point in time.
However, since that person does not meet, say, Asian people on a regular basis, they will find it harder to memorize the right facial features of an Asian person so as to recognize that person later.
That’s really it: we’re trained to pay attention to the right facial features of each ethnicity.
We should also note that some ethnicities have features that are easier to recognize, even for “untrained” people. White people have different hair colors: black, brown, red and blond. Some ethnicities have only black hair (or grey and white hair with aging, but so do every ethnicity to my knowledge).
I agree it’s rude to say “Black people look the same” when in fact they don’t and the problem is that you don’t know how to differentiate them.
But it’s not racist to be unable to tell people of an ethnicity apart just because you don’t know what facial features to look for.
It’s also fine to say “[Insert ethnicity] people look the same TO ME”, because “to me” implies the speaker acknowledges he’s the one who has trouble telling them apart.
It’s getting sickening to see the racism card being played for ever little thing that offends someone. Get a grip people.

However, the reason isn’t just that Will Smith was at the ceremony. He and his were also the only people to interview Obama in Norway after he got the prize, and they were the hosts of the Nobel Peace Prize Concert.
