  6. Niki says:

Yes, Old Man of the Mountain was a scenic viewpoint in NH – it’s on their state quarter as well as their state highway signs. The monument fell down in 2003.

  25. Fanboy Wife says:

Ernest Borgnine is pretty scary. I just watched MST3K’s Merlin’s Shop of Mystical Wonders last night.

  26. This is nothing to do w/ Ernest Borgnine. It is New Hampshires State Logo: ” The Old Man of the Mountains” The REAL fail is the posting… LOL

  27. N/A says:

It’s a FAIL alright. The old man crumbled years ago and they still have the signs up. Actually I do still enjoy the viewing area because now you can watch clueless people squint at the cliff wondering why they can’t make out the old man.

  28. mary says:

im pretty sure i know this sign. its from the white mountains in new hampshire. its the old man in the mountain- a face that looks carved in the rock

  29. ts6788 says:

    Old man here :)

  30. Ian says:

I haven’t been since he crumbled, but it was pretty cool with it was up there! I’d love to see the clueless people!

  31. melissa says:

this is most likely from New Hampshire…poor old man, fell apart.

  32. NH Native says:

Most people go now to see where the old man was. There are before and after pictures. This viewing point was a big part of my childhood, I wish he never fell. The “old man on the mountian” is/was a neat natural rock formation and means a lot to people from NH.

I agree that the sign sounds funny

  33. Fredpie says:

    When’s feeding time?

  34. Andrew Ong says:

Total carnage! No such place as an ‘old man viewing’ area.

  35. Rob J Brooks says:

Isn’t this just the sign to view the “Old Man in the Mountain” that used to be in New Hampshire?

  36. rachel says:

this must be from NH, where the old man in the mountain is. its a rock formation that looks like a man on a mountain. but he’s broken now.

  37. wally says:

I’m looking forward to seeing this exhibit when I visit the zoo

  38. Basara says:

Several jobs ago, I remember making making the joke at work that they need to recall the NH quarters and replace the “Old Man of the Mountain” with “The New Rockslide of the Mountain”

Then, after Ohio & Florida had a space shuttle on their quarters, and Columbia broke up, I started dreading anything else that was a rare/unique natural or manmade item showing up on quarters. I kept expecting someone to torch “My old Kentucky home”, or someone to die at the Indy 500, etc…
