Ok, I've read this thread in its entirety, and I'll have to say that I'm very disappointed.

First of all, nobody here actually knows how the big guy in the pic ended up that way. Some possible examples have already been listed in this thread, so I won't waste the time or bandwidth listing them again, but, yes, there are many ways a person can get fat that are entirely beyond his/her control. However, the guy could have also taken steps to minimize the effects of whatever health problem he may or may not have (i.e., seeing a doctor). With some changes in his lifestyle, he could very well have not ended up in this situation. Also, the fact the gate attendants apparently let him board the plane without making sure he had proper seating arrangements is another growing symptom of the disease commonly called "political correctness". The photo and this thread commenting on the photo have more fails than break.com combined with a taste of meatspin.

The largest fail of all, however, is that until now, no one posting in this thread has thought to use the words "gravity", "orbit", or "planet" in any of their posts. How utterly sad.

Uhh...why don't you fatties do some research about health. If you are fat...you are never healthy! Fat absorbs toxins from the food you eat (among other things) like a sponge and your internal organs are surrounded by mucus, pus, and toxins from years of overeating and consuming processed foods of which you can't even name the ingredients.

This is photoshopped, and it is obvious. You can tell by looking at the top of the fat man's seat, you can see where they tried to blend it together. Still quite funny though.

The large woman @300# weighs what a woman I know weighed AFTER losing 175# in six months on a medically supervised diet, including lots of "cheating". Her brother now weighs about 475#, too, about 200# more than when I met him 25 years ago. They're both short.

They both use "depression" as an excuse, but isn't it interesting how consuming fewer calories than you use can result in a #175 loss in six months? Something about matter not being created or destroyed.

And every morbidly obese person I know has knee problems, which never seem to be the result of them being expected to carry an extra 100-300#.

At 6'7", I'm hardly little, but even when I was 350# due to water retention, I took size 42 Levis. I also could barely walk without being out of breath.

Finally, the reason many fat people have bad hygiene is two-fold. There's more area to clean, and any movement is quickly tiring.

Hint: when you can no longer reach to wipe, it's not because your arms have gotten too short.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself, you self-rightious, egotistical air heads. You were the type of kids in high school that got their thrills from bullying people, and now the magic of the internet has let you bully thousands of people without the risk of anyone knowing what your putrid, puss-filled head looks like. At least fat people can change their weight, because you people will always be ignorant and stupid. And guess what? I am overweight, but damnit, I make it look good.

^^Definitely a fatty.

Eating healthy food, as you say, does not necessarily lead to being thin.

Unless you eat a normal-sized portion of it which will most certainly lead to you being thin(ner).

Now go eat a super-sized salad bucket, fatso.

Um, actually recent genetics research (studying humans, not mice) has shown that weight is 75 to 85 percent due to your chromosomal make-up: http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/256/1/51

So, rather than blast others, why can't you just be thankful for your good genes?

I agree with you wholeheartedly! With obesity statistics in mind, I would venture that the majority of the people making these vicious comments have a few pounds to lose themselves. No one wants to be fat, so why does everyone feel the need to be so nasty to this man they don't even know?

I find this picture more disturbing then funny...

A woman (who resembles this man) nearly crushed my foot when she accidentally stepped on it.

Oh, and I couldn't help but read some of the above comments.
First of all, loosing weight sometimes depends on your current weight.
If you look like the man in this picture, then it might be difficult to lose all that weight that was gained. However, if you're a little overweight loosing weight CAN be as simple as exercise and watching what you eat. When I was 11, I was once a little heavy, but I just started doing walks and not eating fast foods and sweets; within a few months I lost quite a bit of weight.

And second, for some people, others weight IS our concern.
I try and help my friends and sister maintain a healthy weight. Why? Because I'm concerned about their health- it's a shame that we humans fight to live longer lives, yet our bodies can destroy themselves because of food and disease and we only seem to be getting heavier and heavier.
That, and I lost a few family members due to health problems caused by obesity.

Wait, did you say "genes"? Oh, because, duh, there are lots of other reasons people are fat other than "eating their feelings." Contrary to the popular belief of gullible idiots like all of you, science is not empirical on issues of obesity.Do people need to exercise? Yes. Eat healthy food? Yes. Keep stress levels low and avoid unhealthy behavior? Absolutely. However, none of those behaviors necessarily lead to being thin. They lead to being healthy.

Wrong. I've been on hundreds of US flights, CRT televisions were built into the ceilings of older planes for years. Nowadays depending on the airline they've either been removed or they're just hanging there unused.

Wonderful suggestion! Lets start with turning North America in to one big con- eh I mean fatcamp.. They can do months without food, provided a steady supply of water and vitamine..

Put them all on exercise bikes hooked up to a generator, and voila! The worlds fattest nation is now a renewable energy source, CO2 emissions are cut cause we don't have to haul their fat asses around on airplanes anymore and we can give all the American's food to starving people around the rest of the world! yay!

Graves Disease would make one skinny, not fat, because that is HYPERthyroidism. You are thinking of Cushing Disease, for which you get moon facies and a buffalo hump and abdominal obesity. Still, that shouldn't make you fat like this guy. This guy eats his feelings (and the feelings of those around him).

Come to Europe and buy a $10 flight somewhere. They don't assign seating, but you can pay another $10 to be one of the first on the plane and grab whatever seat you want. (If there's no one in a wheelchair or pregnant, you can take a front row seat.)
