Looks like lolz didn’t come back to answer your question. Good observation! You have a sharp eye. However, the similarity to the Latin “mort” is coincidental, as “smrt” is a somewhat “disemvoweled” form of a different word that’s of either Germanic or Slavic origin. “Schmertz” is German for “death,” and “smierc” (with little marks over the s and c, and pronounced pretty much the same way) is the Polish word for “death.” “Smrt” is very likely Czech, as the Czech language is notoriously short on vowels. (So are the languages in Bosnia, Serbia & Croatia.) If so, it’s pronounced “Shmirt,” with a roll on the r. (Tricky to say, if you grew up speaking English, but can be managed with some practice.) I could be wrong as regards the exact language, but it’s definitely Eastern European, which are Slavic languages with a lot of Germanic influence. As for the alphabet, the Roman alphabet became widely used west of the Urals (and Cyrillic east of the Urals, in Russia) even if the Latin language didn’t influence the spoken languages much (except in academic circles), with various accents & pronunciations thereof to accomodate the languages’ idiosyncracies.
