I recall when this happened, it actually did,and there is video footage of it in some T.V news archive.
Geez, if the cripple would have threw his damn soda up, the driver might have seen him. A wheelchair shoudlnt be getting on front of a semi truck anyway. I call ‘wheelchair wisdom’ fail!
Not if the soda spilled, as it almost certainly did, at or before the instant of greatest acceleration–that is, when the initial impact occurred. At 50 mph, it would be very difficult to alert the truck driver by throwing an empty soda, especially since the thing would’ve been blown away by the wind and taken for random unimportant litter.
Yeah, this happened a few years ago. Amazing he survived.
I remember that too. Some of the 911 calls they played on the news were kind of funny.
1st caller: “Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God!!! I CAN’T CALM DOWN!! There is a man in a wheelchair on the front of a truck going down the freeway!! Oh my God! He’s going to die!!! I CAN’T F****** CALM DOWN!!!”
2nd caller: “Uh yeah. um so there’s this guy and hes, like, in a wheelchair. and um, i think he’s stuck on the front of a truck. Pardon me? Oh. no, ma’am, the truck is moving. No joke, ma’am. Pardon me? Oh. um, i’d say about 50 or so. yeah, they’re really booking. Yeah, my pleasure. Talk to you later, ma’am.”
Then they interviewed the guy in the wheelchair, and he was all chill, like – “oh yeah. i was a little bit scared. well, kind of. but not really. it was actually kind of fun”
I think that it’s sad that the article has to refer to the crippled mans obvious drinking problem.

A truck driver once started to change lanes against our car and didn’t notice us until people started honking at him to stop, then he said it was our fault that he didn’t see us from his mirrors. He dented the driver side door enough that it was jammed shut for a few days until we got it repaired.

Definitely not a truck driver fail as it says. There’s no way he could tell there would be someone in front of the truck. He was probably up in his cab when the wheelchair guy came up past the left side in front as the truck pulled off.
Exactly! I know I was taught when I was young not to pass so close in front of a truck or bus. If you can’t see the driver, they can’t see you either.
Electric Wheelchairs like his should have a charge mode for just such a situation.

This has to be fake. Really how do you accidentally get stuck with a wheelchair on a truck and just sit there completely silent while the guy gets into the truck.

On the contrary, it was a major WIN that this guy wasn’t killed.
The driver obviously couldn’t see him from where he was seated.

I live in the same town that this happened in. It was surprising the kid/guy wasn’t killed. What actually happened, too, was that his “helper” wasn’t next to him, but actually inside the local convenient store, or so I’ve heard.
Anyone else think this should be a Win?

The funny part is the end and the beginning
As a truck driver myself, I know that there is about a 20 foot blind spot in front of the truck.
He was in a fuel station, so was likely updating his logbook when the man in the wheelchair proceeded into this blind spot, and was unable to get out of the way fast enough as the driver pulled out.
I guess he’s already in a wheelchair so his life is pretty screwed up as it is. But then on top of that he spilled his drink!?!?!?!?! When will his bad luck end! That poor man.
