Is oviously going to be a much wider road (see the even terrain on the sides). Eventually can be 2 lanes per way… with a (not english native) separation in the middle.

Or… can be a work in progress.

No way this can get 5 thumbs up.

Make sense to me. This is done quite often when a new road is being built and the power company hasn’t moved the power poles on schedule. The contractor completes the road on schedule and patches the area when the pole is moved.

My wife is a civil engineer in the US and says this is actually kinda common. The utilities are terrible about moving poles and no one else is “allowed” to do it. So often a contractor will simply pave around it if the utility isn’t doing their job and then sent them the photo. Usually that gets them out right quick.

Teh road und the pole are not even touchin, yo. It’s the pole is on the side of the road, da wet road reflects little extra pole, there are cones due to pot hole, and no pole in said cone. It only looks that way due to reflection.

If we’re to split hairs, the law generally states you only have to PASS on the [right|left], not that you have to keep to one side at all times. Unless there are specific road markings, eg a double unbroken line where you HAVE to stick to “your” side until you’re through the dangerous section. As you can see here, no lines. Or even any attempt to fence it off, light it, put warning signs out, etc other than the cones.

It’s dark. Raining gently. There’s a cyclist uphead with a nice bright flashing tail light, and you want to get past before that oncoming truck gets too close. You signal, start to pull out and accelerate, and… OH SHI——-

People just don’t expect random poles to be in the middle of the road, even ones that aren’t trying to hitch-hike the hell away from the port area. It’s an obvious danger to enjoying having the run of the road at quiet times, in large vehicles that take up a lot of the lane anyway, passing slower traffic, etc.
