It’s nothing personal against non-U.S. failers. Most places outside the United States view contests and competition as a minor form of gambling, and there are a lot of legal hurdles specific to each and every country that we can’t account for. So, as a result, the contest is U.S. only. Very sorry!

What kind of receipt will you accept for online purchases? Is a screen shot of the “order” page sufficient or do I have to get out my crayons?

Well that’s real upsetting… you’re pretty much bribing us to buy the book. This whole “No purchase necessary” is borderline bullshit. FailBlog I’m disappointed in you.
I’m sorry you’re upset. But I don’t think it’s unreasonable to encourage people to buy the book, and I also don’t think it’s unreasonable to offer readers the chance to win an iPod.
I never said it was unreasonable to promote your book. But it IS unreasonable to bribe people to buy your book using a contest that YOU label as “No purchase necessary.” That is misinformation, a damn shame, and certainly not what I would expect from FailBlog.
I suggest you think long and hard about how you label future promotions.

You don’t need to buy the book to enter or win, just like it says in the rules. But the good folks at FAIL blog can still encourage you to buy it. It’s not a bribe, blackmail, or whatever other buzzword you can come up with. After the wonderful hours I’ve spent on FAIL, I certainly think they are entitled to promote their product. But they’re not forcing it on you or anyone else, so why don’t you get your facts straight next time.

I was just upset because FailBlog wasn’t as straightforward about it as they could have been. Instead of just saying “no purchase necessary,” they should have just said “no purchase necessary — however if you don’t buy the book we won’t consider your entry.” How easy was that.
Yeah, and I was saying you were wrong and getting all worked up over nothing, because they will consider your entry regardless of whether you bought the book or not. The whole reason for “No purchase necessary” type language is that if a purchase is required, the contest is legally deemed a lottery and comes under a new set of laws, including being taxed by the government (not to mention also becoming illegal in some jurisdictions). Thus most contests in the US have, in caps at the top of the official rules, “no purchase necessary.” It’s not a ploy, not a bribe, and not a scam.

Also would like quick clarification. Rules indicate that a picture with the cover from Amazon or another site is a legit entry. Is that correct? I see in a previous entry that only a photo with an actual book is kosher. That seems to contradict the actual rules.
You can submit a receipt for the book, a photo of you with the (physical) book, or a photo of you with the book from an online retailer. If you submit a photo, you cannot use the same entry more than once.
