Colleagues Fail

Picture by: Hartford Courant. Submitted by: dunno source via Fail Uploader
House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk, far right, speaks while colleagues play solitaire on their computers as the House convenes to vote on a new budget for the fiscal year in the Capitol, in Hartford, Conn., Monday, Aug., 31, 2009.
It’s all fun and games until… well, I guess it’s all fun and games!
and these are the people in charge of our money? its as about ‘Fun and Games’ to us as watching someone run over your dog in a 4×4.
At least they’re not playing Texas Hold ‘em…
I saw people at passport control doing this in spain lol
haha looks like my history class
Looks like the guy behind them is on ESPN. Looks like baseball, possibly Yankees.
Its all fun and games until your solitare cant be solved
And the guy on the right is on espn.com
i saw that too. i gaurantee someone was updating their facebook status.

would have been an epic win if someone’s browsing fail blog.
Admittedly, what would you rather do?
At least they weren’t gambling!
Let’s bash some colleagues!
They didn’t think their political careers were worth a $70 privacy screen film.
They aren’t.
To be fair, it was a boring speech.
Fair, where? I wanna go on the dodgems!
You want to sit on the biscuits?
(Which came first, the biscuits or the fariground cars? I can’t imagine someone inventing the cars and going ‘you know what, these really remind me of those jammy biscuits, we should name it after them.’
Than again, nor can I imagine ‘this biscuit reminds me of being bashed while driving a teeny car-type-thing’)

Wrong! MOST workplaces ban non-business use of corporate equipment … these pukes should be expelled from the House – note: I didn’t make any assumptions as to what party they misrepresent.
If they were true colleagues, they’d at least be playing the same game.
Maybe each of them played against a member of the other party?
*facepalm*
Just to make it worse, the budget they are supposed to be considering (on August 31) is for the fiscal year that began July 1. Ahhh, my fair state.

Everyone else seems to be on different internet pages anyway!

And the one bottom right has baseball on.
And I’m also pretty sure that one in the row in front of the people playing solitaire (manned by a blond-ish guy) has Pandora radio playing.
Goodness, I’d get fired pretty quick if I goofed off this much at work or get bad grades if I played on my laptop in class instead of taking notes!
The only scenario in which I think this behaviour could be acceptable is in case of a filibuster, but that’s a whole different story.

what’s a budget ?
Doesn’t look like any of them is doing the right thing or is it just me?
I think if you’re forced to sit in a room all day listening to some small congressman from Minnesota wax philosophical on the evils of big Government, you have to learn to multi-task so you don’t feel too much like poking your own eyes out with a pencil. I don’t blame them in the least. Plus, I don’t know about you guys, but I am perfectly capable of paying attention to what’s being said and playing solitaire at the same time.
This exactly. I commented below, but yeah I have trouble keeping focus if I don’t have something else to do, so I imagine they have a similar issue.
It is their JOB to sit in the room and listen to the honorable senator from MN wax philosophical. These people spent hundreds of millions of dollars trying to get that seat. One would think that they would at least have the decency to do the job they worked so hard to get, but no! here they all sit playing games and surfing the net. And we all wonder why govt. is so messed up?
Working hard or hardly working?
Killing time on the job will kill the job in time.

nope, this photo ran on the Hartford Courant’s Website and was taken by a photo journalist.
still- could be, you act as if news teams haven’t “spiced up” their pictures and storys before.
Yeah it was on the news yesterday, it’s a real picture. I just think they might have trouble concentrating. I can easily listen to someone speak while playing solitaire.
What about the guy behind them on ESPN?
It should be noted that the two people paying solitaire are democrats? No Wonder it took them 2 Months into the next fiscal year to (barely) pass a budget.
Specifically, Jack Hennessey (Assistant Majority Leader) and Barbara Lambert.
Oh, the guy on espn.com is probably either Henry Genga or Timothy Larson (based on where they are sitting). Both also Democrats.
Shhhhhh! You’re interrupting the narrative! The only party mentioned in that caption was Republican, so naturally people are going to associate that party with the goofing off that’s going on. Persuasive writing 101: Strategic Wording and Creative Omission. Better luck next time PK.
Not so much actually. It’s more like: if you’re from Connecticut, which you’d have to be if you’re bothering to read the Hartford Courant, you already know that what the Republicans say in the General Assembly does not matter. What matters is whether the Dems can keep their caucus together solidly enough to override Gov. Rell’s veto. This far along in the process, Hennessey and Lambert know what Cafero’s going to say backward and forward and it’s not going to change their position in the slightest.
Voting the way the party leadership tells me: it’s easier than thinking!
Being the party leadership: not easier than being a bag of douche, but darn well worth it!
at least they aren’t playing couter strike
hahahhahahahhahhahh
I saw this yesterday on the news. It occurred to me it might actually be helping them concentrate. I have a hard time watching someone speak for too long before my mind starts to wander. It helps me keep listening to have something to do like doodle or pick at my fingernails or something.
Try again. Doodling is different. It’s mindless and can be done as an outlet while your brain is otherwise engaged. Card games – and watching sports – require a diversion of thought. It’s fine to play a game while you’re taking a break from work, but even at my lowly job (i.e. not making decisions that affect the fiscal health of an entire state) it’s inexcusable to be doing ANYTHING during a meeting but paying attention and participating, even if that means just writing follow up questions or ideas about the subject being discussed. Fire them all.
Well, it is Solitaire, and that is a pretty mindless game. I play it all the time at work (when it’s slow, anyway, which is most of the time) while listening to the news. I can do both just fine. If they’re listening to someone talk for a long time, it can be hard to keep your eyes focused on the person without needed to give your brain something to do. It’s easy for a lot of people to play Solitaire while listening to someone talk.
What’s the big deal? It’s not hard to listen to a speech and play at the same time. Besides look how many people have laptops in that pic. Obviously every one of them is doing something else while that guy talks.
you sure this was taken this year?
He is not really speaking – this is break time and he is singing Frank Sinatra Karaoke.
the guy on the right has ESPN.com open too. wow.
Oh gee, i wonder why the world is crashing down… cuz everybody is on youtube or playing solitare
probably fake
Yeah, it seems like it. Still, pretty funny though.
haha, guy on the right is on ESPN.com

and you all think solitaire it’s not boring ?
Yeah, no one noticed the closest computer screen on the right is looking at baseball too!!!!!!!!!!
oh yes… politics today… what wold have George Washington done???
Pulled out a deck of cards and started playing classic solitare.
I wondered why the health care bill had provisions for “red on black” and “aces are ones”.
LoL… I always tough they do that when no one is looking xD… real life proof xD

http://blog.ctnews.com/connecticutpostings/2009/09/01/whos-playing-solitaire/ The people playing solitare have been identified. The woman is Barbara Lambert, D-Milford, and Jack Hennessy, D-Bridgeport.
That guy on the bottom right is looking at baseball clips! That’s what I’d be doing.
they’re playing freecell i think. its def. not solitare… way too many cardds.
Hey now… only one is playing Solitaire. The other one is playing Freecell. Big difference.
This is Baseball/ESPN statement number 11. As you were people.
My tax paying dollars are paying for this……. they must be democrats
Good thing there’s no money involved… wait a sec.
It’s a house of cards… ok, i’ll stop.
Your tax dollars at FAIL.
eh! at least none of them were playing world of warcraft!!! then i think we would all be screwed, them being republican or democratic!
Can I get paid those big bucks to do that?
I work for an Illinois legislative agency. When I first saw this picture I thought for sure it was “our” legislators
But even though it’s not, I’m sure this scene has been repeated in our capitol many times…
Ever seen a legislature in action? Floor debate is pretty much a sham – everyone’s mind is made up already, and the only reason anyone makes speeches at all is so they can go on record as having spoken for or against something. The people playing solitaire are the only honest ones in the room.
And another guy is on espn.
They’re STILL playing MS Solitaire these days?
this looks suspisiously photoshopped
hahaha espn and solitare ftw
This is fake because everyone know anyone in governement is way to stupid to play solotare.
haha the person on the far right’s on iTunes… needed some music evidently?
epic fail for me.
the lady on the right is my friends grandma
darn (im so dum) i meant left >.<
and I bet that the guy with the mic is singing karaokesongs, common sing along, one more time!
I think i saw someone in the right of the picture listening to XM Radio XD
The guy behind them is looking at espn and i think someone in front of them is online shopping
THIS IS WHY OUR GOVT CANT GET SHIT DONE!
