And, before the losers in the natural disaster zone could be helped, they had to run out of ammunition so the rescuers could get in there. Of course, they had NO idea how to help themselves because they were mostly welfare babies.

Well let’s see, the democrats voted 99% for the Iraq war. Youtube it for facts.

Obama has tripled the troops in Afghanistan, so it is now his war.

Millions of Iraqi citizens were being killed by an evil dictator before the war. Now very few are killed.

I agree with you on Katrina and don’t wish that on anyone, but most of the people chose to stay after they were warned and told to get out. We saw this again with hurricane ike.

In 2001 George W. issued an investigation of Fanny and Freddy. Democrats Frank and Raines both denied any problems with these 2 lending institutions. “Wait, lending to people who will never be able to pay their loans” That’s not a problem? All politicians are in bed together whether they are dem or rep. Neither party is good and when America finally wakes up and sees this, we will be a better nation…

Obama has now done what Bush should have done but didn’t do. It’s not his war, even though he focuses his attention on the region where 9/11 was planned.

I think Saddam didn’t kill millions of Iraqis, but, of course, still far too many. But I doubt that Iraqis would say “now very few are killed”. 100.000+ of about 23 million is not an acceptable number, especially considering the lack of legitimacy for this war.

Whatever. Wouldn’t you say that the government failed before and after Katrina? Would you even go as far as Wizard^? If not, why do you defend him?

                      • Arthur Eld says:

You don’t know too much about politics in an interdependent world, do you? Obama can not “stop it” currently, unless he would accept that the taliban regain power in Afghanistan and hence have the same situation as it was before 9/11. Try to educate yourself better and learn to argue agreeably – right now you sound pretty stupid. It doesn’t matter whether you like or dislike Obama, facts remain facts. Ignoring them, like Bush did quite often, doesn’t serve your country well.

I’m not an American, but I knew that Katrina will hit the US shore several days before it happend – I heard it on the news. I was shocked to see the lack of preparation for that (which, as you know, isn’t something that never happens in that region), and I was shocked to see the incompetence after it happend. If you follow the chain of command you can’t argue with the fact that at that time Bush was on top of that chain. He failed. To blame the victims and accuse them, like you did, is disgusting. Even if a small minority acted hostile towards those who tried to help them (much too late, though), it’s impossible to stick to the facts and blame them all at the same time.

All in all, I’m convinced that you just try to save your view on the world, even if reality makes that impossible for reasonable people. It’s a sign of weakness to be unable to adjust or change your standpoints if the facts demand that. Just sayin’.

                        • Wizard says:

The incompetence can be laid at the feet of the morons that didn’t (WOULDN’T) get out of the way of an oncoming train. They knew it was coming, and REFUSED to leave. As far as I’m concerned, they deserved what they got. The SAME type of catastrophe happened in Texas, but THEY knew how to prepare, and didn’t wait on the gubment to help.
You see, there’s a difference between people who have, all their lives, depended on the governement for EVERYTHING, and those who know you NEVER depend on the government for ANYTHING. That difference was made QUITE evident during the natural catastrophes.
And, as far as a catastrophic event happening to me, I know how to get through them without depending on governmental assistance. Been there, done that.
I don’t know where you live, but just as most everyone else, you’ve been fed whatever you see through the filter of the presenter. If you weren’t there, you don’t KNOW.
Obama, or Bush, or whomever YOUR enslaver may be, it’s all the same. Don’t depend on the government for ANYTHING.

                        • Arthur Eld says:

Badly engineered dikes are the residents fault?! But how come they build them when all they do is sitting at home and enjoying the overwhelming benefits the US social system gives them? I’m confused.

I’m not enslaved, thanks for asking. And unlike you I wouldn’t enjoy going back about 5000 years to a time where there was no government. BTW – how do you travel in Texas? On streets? What do you do when it’s dark? Turn on the light? Where does your shit go when you flush your toilet? How do you get water to wash yourself? What happens if your house is burning? “Don’t depend on the government for ANYTHING”? Yeah, right.

                        • Wizard says:

So, YOU believe that the badly engineered dikes kept the people from evacuating when they had plenty of warning, and it was the dikes that were shooting at the guardsmen and aid workers that were trying to assist.
Interesting perspective, and one that I had not considered.
We’re all enslaved to a degree.
Travel? By roads. Were the first roads built by a governmental entity? No. As a matter of fact, there are many PRIVATE roads across the US that were built and are maintained by the residents in the community.
All your ‘conveniences’ are just that. Of course, apparently all of yours are supplied by the government (to which you’re apparently not enslaved, I guess). I’m not here to change your mind about anything you think.
The point of all this is that Rakim is a moron, and a racist. I wonder if he moved from Nawlin’s.

                        • Arthur Eld says:

I believe badly engineered dikes caused THE FLOODING OF NEW ORLEANS. It’s easy: Good dikes: No flood. Bad dikes: Flood and deaths.

Ah, I see, so you only travel on the private roads. Well, if you don’t mind the reduction in choice where to go…

I didn’t mention another thing the government you seem to hate so much gives you: Laws. You might think you would like to live in a Darwinian world without government laws, but I assure you, you wouldn’t think like that anymore when the bigger and/or better armed guy comes along.

But what am I discussing with you? Your points of view are so far of the real world that I don’t think any argument will ever change your mind. Maybe unforeseen incidents will some day if you have bad luck. Until then: Enjoy your life full of absolute certainty and easy answers!

                        • Wizard says:

NATURE and a HURRICANE caused the flooding! GEEZ. Get a CLUE. And they KNEW it was coming but refused to leave. Floods happen. Big deal. You seem to want to blame their lack of action on the government. Of course, it’s REALLY all the government’s fault. I’m sure some secret plot to wash the region clean of the filth was concocted, and the government thought that creating a hurricane would do that.
It doesn’t matter. When the NEXT one comes (and there will be more), the inhabitants will be just as stupid and sit there . . .
Laws are fine. I don’t have a problem with a FEW laws. Unfortunately, there’s no law against being stupid enough to sit in the path of a hurricane.
Well, maybe that IS a fortunate thing.
I will tell you that I wouldn’t mind a governmentless society where only the strong survive. It would be a much more polite world.

                        • Arthur Eld says:

Yup, Hurricanes cause floods, dikes stop floods from destroying citys. Or not, if they are badly engineered.

So you do want some governement? Or who else should create and enforce a few laws?

“People who think they are free make the best slaves.”

We as a people are enslaved by the media, which I believe to be slanted either liberally, or conservatively (FOX News) there truly is no such think as an unbiased opinion, sad to say. I do believe that Obama’s victory was in fact, a win for the media. Supporters of Obama have backed down after he won the election, and even tried to stop him. I don’t have any qualms about his presidency, and I wish him success, but I do believe that the majority of citizens are truly ‘under control’ for lack of a better term. George Washington warned of a two party system, and how it would bring the collapse of our country. As I have watched through the years, I have seen the political swing, get further and further apart, to the point that it is absurd as to how different the parties are, when we need a 3rd party to join the ranks. The problem is, the media is too focused on the 2 parties, and millions of dollars are spent on producing ads so as to get elected, that no mere citizen can run for president any longer.

Additionally, 98% of the African American Population of our country voted for Obama, so it IS legitimate to say that these are the people who voted for Obama.
Finally, Northern WHITE Girl, I must encourage you to do two things. First, don’t piss of people smarter and more informed than you. it will not end well for you. Second, if you must make inflammatory comments about other people, at least have some sort of basis. Nothing any of these people has said is without basis. Anyone can be a political leader if they hold popular views and are willing to go on record. 98% of African Americans did vote for Obama, especially with his constant talk of racial equality, so it is reasonable to say that people like this voted for Obama. Yes, they were comments designed to inflame. They are right. You are not. Indiana is not southern. The confederate battle flag is in fact not a racist symbol. I live next to Chicago, hold a similar attitude towards unfounded and stupid comments, and realize that there is basis to many stereotypes. I haven’t been shot yet. The internet is a rocky place. 98% of African Americans voted for Obama?!? what?!? where did you get this statistic. I’m pretty sure 98% of ANY race didn’t even vote. Did you mean 98% of black voters? 98% of all Obama voters were black? Be clearer next time. Even if you meant that…your conclusion was to say that it is legitmate to say that these are the people who voted for Obama…even dumber! even if 100% of all black people voted for Obama there is a chance that the numbers are higher when you combine whites and other races, which would mean that those races voted Obama, not just blacks. At any rate..no race voted for Obama idiot..America, the country, the U.S. voted for Obama (take an elementary social studies class) it’s not about one race. Also, what’s with the fallacies: “98% of African Americans did vote for Obama, especially with his constant talk of racial equality, so it is reasonable to say that people like this voted for Obama.” any idiot with a college degree would laugh at this false cause. “realize that there is basis to many stereotypes”–again DO NOT say this in front of college educated graduates as they will shake their heads in shame at your ignorance. Even if there is a basis to a stereotype (usually there isn’t) NEVER use that basis to justify your opinion of others. Atleast you were right about one thing: The internet is a rocky place. If you’re going to spout off, do so intelligently if you wish for people to pay any attention.

                • Fusion chef says:

Where to start… maybe with old pink.

Fist let me note there is more than one confederate flag, but mainly there are actually three flags each of which has had changes to them mostly for the reason of the number of the states in the confederacy. the first of these flags is the “Stars and Bars” flag which was actually the “Confederate National Flag”. The Second flag was the “First Confederate Navy Jack” which very few are familiar with. The second flag was actually the precursor to the third flag that most people recognize and some still ignorantly fly today. The third flag is the confederate battle flag that was used as the confederate troops flag during battle. this is the flag people will often still use and claim as being a symbol of heritage.

It is pretty safe to say the confederate flag or to be more exact the confederate battle flag(since it is what is mainly used) is in fact a racist symbol because its whole purpose for existence was to symbolize the confederacy in a war over slavery of the African American population.

I have heard the argument saying it represents their heritage as a southerner and i ask this question. How does a war over slavery represent your heritage as this is the only thing the flag represents?

I see nothing that can be said that is positive about this the flag as a symbol. At least other certain horrible symbols can claim to have other origins that could be argued as a positive thing. one such symbol is the dreaded Nazi swastika which use has been outlawed in Germany except the Hindu form which is where the symbol was stolen from in the first place.

Since at least one positive thing can be said for such a horrible symbol such as the swastika and nothing good can be said for the confederate flag I can’t see how people claim it as a symbol of heritage and not just racism and hate.

I assume you may still may disagree with this even after my comments on the subject and I ask you other than just strictly your opinion why is it not a racists symbol?

                  TINA

                  Semantics..Semantics….Semantics
just because you don’t feel like validating old pinks argument specifically the statistics portion thereof does not make what he/she is saying false and i highly suspect you knew very well what old pink was indicating to when 98% was posted. Choosing to remain ignorant is by far worse that just being uneducated.
The fact is the percentage of African American votes for Obama far exceeded that of any other race as to why that is could be as I see it one of two things either the black community knows something every one fails to comprehend or race did play into the deciding factor.
I tend to think on this occasion the simplest answer is the correct one.

Making the assumption a college education dictates intelligence, knowledge, and worldliness is not a very wise choice.
You are correct about that people of with a sound intellectual mind (or as you put it college educated graduates) would shake their heads in regards stereotypes but not for claim to there being basis for them as that is often true but we shake our heads at the use of stereotype in most application as it make an unsound assumption about a group with variances that will many times vary from that stereotype.

I may agree to the actual posts by many people in here have the sound of ignorance but by far the posts including yours showing intolerance are much worse as ignorance show lack of knowledge but intolerance shows inability to grow both in many intellectual and social aspects.

By the way for the record as if it matters: I did vote for Obama but not because I support him but more so that I dislike McCain.
Yes, I am very much so a college educated graduate who also happens to be caucasian.

                  • Anomictheory says:

You’re views on the civil war need some help there, pal. First of all, the war was only partially about slavery. The confederates were actually in the process of giving up their slaves at the time. The only reason the civil war happened was Lincoln (who I do respect) realized that the United States could not survive without its agricultural side. Lincoln himself owned several slaves, as did multiple northen and border states. In fact, Maine or Maryland (I forget) was the last state to abolish slavery. So please don’t spout your prejudice that everyone from the south is a rascist idiot, and don’t think for a second that the confederate flag is a sign of slavery. Slavery would have died out within the next 5-10 years anyway, with or without the war.

The Confederate Battle Flag is a sign of heritage. Sometimes I think that the north is alot more overzealous about race than the south is. Personally, its a non-issue

And last but not least, it seems to me that Northerns are ALOT more rascist than 95% of people from the south. I live in Virginia, and upon visiting New Jersey, I was disgusted at the amount of prejudice.

Also, more African Americans these days tend to be rascist to white people than the other way around. And yes i guess its understandable, but if you’re gonna complain, direct you’re complaints at someone actively practicing rascism, not half of the country’s population…

        • racism n.
          1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
          2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

prejudice is the act of judging someone prior to meeting them, which more or less covers anyone who believes in stereotyping people.

            Use racism in a Sentence
            –noun
            1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
            2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
            3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. Because they almost always have some element of truth. Some are harmful, some are not, and some are much more true than others. Racism involves hatred, that’s the difference.

My point is, saying something is true about a race in general, is not racism, it’s stereotyping.

I also notice you didn’t address the other part of my comment, which was the real point to begin with. I don’t think that point can be argued, though I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a truism.

Is that a reasonable statement? Certainly everyone is prejudiced – that’s part of survival (as long as it’s experience-based). Who doesn’t judge someone else based on their appearance? Main Entry: 2stereotype
              Function: noun
Etymology: French stéréotype, from stéré- stere- + type
              Date: 1817
              1 : a plate cast from a printing surface
2 : something conforming to a fixed or general pattern; especially : a standardized mental picture that is held in common by members of a group and that represents an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude, or uncritical judgment

Stereotypes most certainly do not “almost always have some element of truth.” If that were true then all blonde and Polish people would indeed be dumb as doornails, Irish people would be a bunch of drunks, etc. etc. (too many for me to go into). Stereotypes are harmful, racism is harmful. Saying otherwise shows lack of thought.

As far as the point about the NAAWP or WET, yes the originator of such groups would be ostracized in American society, and rightly so. I believe that racism in all forms needs to be abolished. Also sexism and ageism.

But there’s a subtle difference in your contention and mine. *Assuming* that *all* members of a given race are , is indeed a racist attitude. However, to say that a given race is *generally* more racist than others, and not assuming that someone fits that description as soon as you meet them, is stereotyping.

                @Brewski
Agreed on all points. However, I still contend that stereotyping is not inherently immoral or inaccurate. It just means that I believe that groups of people in general act in certain ways. I don’t see how anyone can even argue with that. People are grouped together by similarities. Of *COURSE* stereotypes exist and are usually accurate. This holds true whether the grouping is due to a belief system, a disease, experiences, or genetics.

                @Lurk

Untrue almost across the board. Stereotypes do not apply to all people of the given group. They apply to a significant number of that group. Also notice that I said “some element of truth”. Stereotypes, just like urban legends, can grow and deform over many years. Stereotypes are not inherently harmful. For example:

Most goths are Caucasian or Asian
                Gang members are thugs
                White people like mayo
                Black people have rhythm
                Black people have soul
                Men like sex
                Women are better at multitasking

Those are all stereotypes, none are in any way harmful, they all apply to a significant number of the group, not all, and I contend that they all have some element of truth.

“As far as the point about the NAAWP or WET, yes the originator of such groups would be ostracized in American society, and rightly so. I believe that racism in all forms needs to be abolished. Also sexism and ageism.”

Actually, an interface may be biased towards certain groups, because people have different frames of reference and such. When you design an interface you have to make it as all-encompassing as possible for the target user group, though often the interface ends up a result of designers’ views and concepts of things. This is of course not racist in any way, as the designers can’t turn themselves into different people, they are ultimately constrained by who they are.

Furthermore, computers are too complicated, inherently so because they are extremely multi-purpose. The more functionality you put into one machine, with its limited input methods, the more complicated it gets. If you instead have several single purpose machines with input methods adapted to their functionality, you’ll have an overall gain in usability.

For more information check out the article “Less is More (More or Less): Uncommon Sense and the Design of Computers” by Bill Buxton or the field of ubiquitous computing in general.

Clearly this Rakim person is paranoid about racism, but that doesn’t change that it’s a well known problem that computers are overcomplicated and therefore unusable by many people.

    • Your conclusion, after describing the complicated process of designing interaction software for a computer, is that computers are hard to use?! :?: TVs are easy to use, but complicated to make. I can’t understand how computers are any harder to use than a car, they just require some basic training. • That guy is a fool. I know the article was written 8 years ago, but technology has done the exact opposite from what he predicted! More and more of the time we are using one device to perform many actions. What he’s suggesting is outrageous! That we should for some reason purchase multiple things to perform different tasks? That’s a step backwards Technology has been moving to integrate multiple things into one device. Mobile or cell phones being a case in point; they now have MP3 players, cameras, video recorders, internet browsers, etc all built in. Why in the world would the average user want specialist software? The only point in specialist software is to boost performance for professionals. People don’t buy the HD cameras used for modern movies, they buy camcorders. He seems to ignore the fact that there are specialist software (Photoshop, Word, etc.) and focuses on the fact that the general purpose software is what most people use. This is because most people don’t want to specialise on any one thing as computers are generally used on a casual basis outside of companies.

I had to actually read the Owner’s Manual for some of the stuff my car can do. Not so with my laptop. I guess that means that a Chevy is more complex than a Dell, right?

          • Nash says:

That’s not a valid comparison as your laptop manual doesn’t cover every piece of software you will ever use, and therefore all functionality you will attempt to access.

        • Brewski says:

I have strong opinions about user-interface design. Most companies do a very poor job of it. Apple is a rare exception. Engineers should not be allowed to design user interfaces.

The two Steves* went to my high school (they were gone before I got there in 1974); I live in Cupertino. What are they teaching these days?

        • Nash says:

Things should not take six months to learn how to use. That people blame themselves/others for lacking the knowledge or patience to use things is more an indicator of how well people adapt to conditions which are essentially wrong, rather than blaming those conditions.

          • bodo says:

We don’t all have the same abilities (and I’m talking about individuals, not any given group). For one person learning something might take a week; for the next person a month, for the next six months. Having said that, I was fascinated to find that (from the Apple book) during testing, they would have someone use the software and simply observe and take notes without helping at all. When they were done they would ask them why they did this or that in what order etc. and adjust things accordingly.

            • Nash says:

Helping would defeat the point of the test. The goal is to find how users reason, not have them complete the task as fast as possible.

You need to know how your users reason to know how to design an interface that’s intuitive for those users.

He finalizes the conclusion that the “[black] community” is inherently disadvantaged in accomplishing harder tasks that are inherently done by other races. In laymans terms, he just said his race was incapable of keeping up with other races, and blames them for going too fast.

  64. Chris says:

Well, that’s why they invented books like Computers for Dummies, or Microsoft Windows for Dummies, you know bro?

    • Nash says:

The goal of interaction design should always be to make accessing functionality so easy that one would never need a manual. While there will always be a few people who will need a manual, that “for Dummies ” books, which are essentially manuals, are sold in larger volumes, just shows how complex the computer is.

      • Emperor, Tetragramaton Cleric, Captain Teague says:

You need to settle down with your mistrust of the fairly simple to use computer. Need a word document, double click the word processor of choice… Notepad, easy…. sigh you make it seem as though computers are the most complex thing out there. Yet there are so many posters on the internet here having no trouble at all, yourself included, how did you figure out how to post here, let alone, turn on this complex machine?

        • Nash says:

My personal ability to use the computer is rather irrelevant to the HCI field. And well, anyone here could claim it’s easy, but you’re here, so you’re not exactly the right people to ask.

Computers are still complicated, I can understand this in an intellectual level even though I find them simple to use and at times get annoyed with people who can’t figure out how to do stuff for themselves.

          • фдуч_шяь says:

IMHO. Computer is just a tool. It is whatever you do with it can be complicated or simple. If you just want to play games, or read blogs – there is nothing complicated about it. But if you want to write a program, which simulates the flow of particles in four dimensional space… you get the point.

            • Emperor, Tetragramaton Cleric, Captain Teague says:

You need to know how to do it in real life before you simulate it. But most programming is logical.

          • Emperor, Tetragramaton Cleric, Captain Teague says:

That follows for all technology though. I bet you I can find people who can’t operate a phone correctly. They might claim it is too complex and prefer face to face conversations.

            • Nash says:

Yes, but a phone is a single purpose tool, whereas a computer is a multi-purpose tool. You do a lot of different things using the same input methods. This makes it more complicated. Task-specific input methods are easier to use. Several specialized tools are better than jack of all trades ones. You don’t cook and eat with a Swiss army knife, right?

Consoles also suffer from complexity, by having lots of different games you play with the same controller. An improvement is the Guitar Hero guitar controller, which is an example of task-specific input. I certainly wouldn’t play Guitar Hero using a regular console controller.

While there are always people who will have trouble with technology, the tasks one today accomplishes using a computer could be made significantly easier if one instead used several different specialized tools.

I’d say the biggest obstacle to moving away from the personal computer which has been in an interaction standstill since the 80′s, is the lack of ideas. People accept the computer the way it is and don’t consider alternatives.

              • The phone is no longer a single purpose tool, at least not cell/mobile ones. You realise that the swiss army knife wasn’t made for household use? It was made for camping/military use, and in that situation, yes I do cook and eat with it.

You’re not trying to argue that consoles should have different controllers for each game are you? Because that’s just ridiculous.

Specialised tools don’t always make things easier…

Interaction with computers has changed over the years, just not much because whenever someone tries to change it, they fail as people are used to the interface they have now. Interfaces evolve rather than suddenly change. The general interface has actually been the same since the 60s or 70s, but that’s not the point. Browsers have changed radically in the last ten years. Laptops went through several alternatives to mice before more or less settling on the touch pad. Interaction is looking to change with the coming of touch screen PCs, but it might not work as people might not like the idea. Cost is also an important factor in computer design, we could have a fully-immersive 3D interaction environment with today’s technology, but it would cost too much to be marketable.

Actually this character, whether or real or not, represents a real segment of the population who have been taught all their lives not to work productively towards improving themselves, but to instead blame others (namely white men) for their failures, which is both pathetic and racist. What is more frightening is that their vote counts just like yours, and there is no shortage of politicians who are happy to make careers of obliging the “injustice”.

    • INR says:

Of course they’ve “have been taught all their lives not to work productively towards improving themselves, but to instead blame others.”

But for an adult woman, if you were to take accurate measurements of a significant representation of a cross section of the female population, they’re just as developed as anyone else on average.

  88. Tiblet says:

It is a pity that no one is willing to pick up a manual and learn the basic operations of a machine that is in almost every business, and a lot of homes. I bought a brand new laptop with Vista this past winter. I had not had the pleasures of Vista prior to this as all we have are XP machines until this laptop. Within a week, I had all my basics figured out and was on to the harder stuff. Now, my husband and one of his friends did “optimize” in other words get rid of the bundled software, but they said even that wasn’t terribly hard.
I will happily admit to being a southern white, but I cannot see where the color of anyone’s skin affects their ability to use any sort of technology. The only barriers I see to basic technology use are self-inflicted: i.e. a lack of interest in learning. Can I program or code? No. If I really wanted to learn, could I? Yes. It’s called find a friend who is good at it and ask. It’s called take a class at the local community college.
I have now used both Windows and Linux and do well enough to get by on my own. And maybe it’s just me, but when I get stumped I call and ask someone I know to help or I pick up a book and try to find an answer. It makes me mad that someone is so self-absorbed as to accuse an INANIMATE object of being racist. Sorry for the rant.

  113. lolcat09 says:

While the goal of interaction design is to make a computer usable to everyone, programming a universal interface that allows for everyone with every level of education is simply impossible. Also, writing a program is not as simple as, this is how it wanted to work, and it magically works. Computers work with mathematical calculations and if/then statements. They are designed to be useful, to create an interface that is easy for everyone to use, without any practice would create a very significant loss of functionality. Simply because some people need to be carried step by step, and others dont. If people have to use an interface that carries them step by step when they can predict what to do next without help, they will get frustrated by the simplicity of the software.
Productivity for complicated software would also decrease significantly, and time would be wasted. A computer is as intuitive as it can be, considering it is designed for the masses. Bottom line is that people are not the same, some are better at some things than others, While it has nothing to do with race. it does have to do with genetic predisposition and upbringing. Like everything else in life, using a computer is based on a learning experience, And learning anything takes effort. IF people are not willing to put forth the time, then they cant really expect the same results and the same abilities as the people who are putting forth the time.

    • Lord Gore says:

You have a good heart and a good motivation in explaining so sincerely the mechanics of computer vs. social interaction and societal functionality theory, but you have earned the “Mr. Obvious FAIL”. The only argument worthy of discussion is why anyone feels the need to defend this person. Call him what you will (and I have a few possible options), but this guy cannot function in normal society because he hasn’t tried hard enough…. Oh, and some ideas for what to call him…. Societal retarded, societal handicap, mentally handicapped American, Jesse Jacksonist. You can probably think of many more… go for it.

I’m sorry I’m not used to see this degree of ignorance. I think the subliminal message is “Let’s all just become retards and make things more easy, or otherwise be racist”.

  124. GKirb says:

Most of Black (Gangsters), Arab and others are hackers. So WTF !

  125. D Ray says:

I like to think stupidity crosses all racial barriers.

  126. Lancer says:

Wow… how sad is it that someone’s effectively being racist against his own kind by claiming that something is racist?

  127. Geminate says:

He’s right, let’s go back to DOS days when computers were simple to use. Windows is just too hard, you turn it on and it actually works…so stressful.

  128. brokenguitarist says:

Ignorance crosses all party lines, democrat, republican, libertarian, green, whatever. Politics really don’t play a part in someone’s ignorance, stupidity, and racism. There are plenty of black republicans, a ton of white racist democrats, and everything in between. This guy’s ignorance only shows that yes, there are a lot of racist blacks out there. Many more than the black community would ever care to admit. At the same time, it shows that we as a society have a very long way to go in breaking down these useless barriers. As long as people like him exist and spread around this type of crap, white, black, asian and so forth, we as a society will never be able to move past it. And let’s face it, we need to move past it. We bleed the same blood, breathe the same air, one little pigmentation gene or eye-shape gene shouldn’t matter. Call me altruistic, call me a dreamer, but I dare you to tell me that I’m wrong.

  129. Wolvie says:

This guy is a good student of Lib idiology. He would fit right in with Obama’s old church too.

  130. nick says:

    get a mac!

  131. Gookty says:

This is just a good smile for my monday! The use of “the community”, oh lord thank you for the Internet :)

  132. The rest of the fail says:

… is the rest of you making “reverse racism” and political party jokes on both sides. This is a stupid individual who happens to be black, misinterpreting his own ignorance for other’s racism. The idea that there is any political party or racial group who would support his perspective is almost equally idiotic.

  133. Scourge says:

Submitter: This is from the Onion, dummy.

  134. slackerboy! says:

“Everybody’s a racist, except for me, cause I’m black!”

  135. monica says:

    is he $%##@ serious??

  136. Jimbo says:

    Thats one stupid Ni**a!

  137. Agentrok says:

theese are the people who fuel my desire to become a dictator. I CANNOT STAND IT when stupid people think they are EVER right.

  138. Bob says:

    It’s always the “whities” faults.

  139. Spongebob says:

    holy shit who’s racist now

  140. Brit says:

Damn back to the drawing board, he found us out! Just when we thought us white and chineese people were getting ahead our plot has been discovered, Bravo Rakim of Oakland, Bravo

  141. ComeOn says:

Why couldn’t this be just about some really stupid guy, making a really stupid comment?
This guys is stupid, stupid, stupid and does NOT SPEAK FOR ALL of Black America!

He is just some idiot who was unfortunately allowed to make a fool of himself in print.

Enough said! This happens everyday and in every race.

NOTE: I am an African American who voted for Bush I , Bush II twice, Obama—only after the Palin selection, otherwise I would have voted for McCain. If you must know…

  142. Wheeburgers says:

My take on all of this: Republicans are evil, Obama’s great, The Guy in the picture only wants attention, and all of you are hopelessly stupid!

    • C.C. Halifax says:

You know that Republicans and Democrats are the ying and yang of fail lately. Really, you feed off the hard-headedness of the right and mix it with the utter retardation of the left, and you get such a wonderful mix. And Obama is not really that great, and will never live up to his hype. He could be a solid president, but still fail, because people expect too much from him. He promised stuff that can never happen in such a short span, and is now concentrating a lot of energy on stuff that shouldn’t be the main focus right now. USA is in a depression, why focus on gay marriage?

Anyways, that’s my lil rant for today.

  143. Seriouslol says:

    Milk was a bad choice.

  144. Yo Yo Yo says:

Homeboy used to ask me for help with his computer. I installed linux. Then he popped a cap in my ass and doesn’t call me anymore. Long Live Linux.

  145. paradoxymoron says:

“he was probably using a microsoft. He need to use an Apple software therefore it would be much easier for him. Microsoft for engineers. Apple is for illiterates and people who like shiny things and doesn’t make any contribute to society. Thats why NASA and government uses Microsoft” -Conservative4Life

    Whoa….a FAIL within a FAIL!

    …..trippy….

  146. Succeedy McFail says:

Didn’t anyone tell him? He has to install C*** 3.0 to Windows, or N****Please 3.5 for the MAC. His ” black ” computer probably takes a year to boot up / shut down when prompted. He’s so stupid. Tell me it’s fantasy. Way to represent the race, Amos. You just keep turnin’ back dat’ clock, ” ya’ hear ? “

  147. maddogsteve says:

actually, while this guy appears to be a moron, even knowing how to use a computer doesn’t mean you don’t spend a lot of time screaming at it. My laptop (PC) drives me @#%& crazy most of the time. Going to try a Mac next and see if it’s any better…but like earlier poster, I hope this is an Onion piece, otherwise it’s just sad…

  148. L Ron Hubub says:

    he needs scientology

  149. Randy says:

political and religious comments on this fail blog

    FAIL BLOG FORUM FAIL

  150. Amy says:

I have a much easier time doing complex things on my computer than just taping a damn episode of One Tree Hill on my TV

  151. aaa says:

    wow
    stupid racist black

  152. A Person says:

    GET OUT OF MY RACE

  153. oreo says:

wow…just one reasone why black people annoy me

  154. Slade says:

You may never Master a Broom because it is smarter than You and made by Blind People!!

  155. Emigrant for a Reason says:

Oh My God And F–k. I guess I must be white or chinese then, because I study computer science in a non-english speaking country. I always suspected I was kidnapped and tattooed this color as a baby. And the other black and odd-coloured students from the other parts of the globe studying doctorate maths and engineering can only be aliens masquerading as non-whites/non-chinese. It also explains why no one sent me a ballot for his unanimous election to spokesman for all non-whites/non-chinese. What a relief!

Please don’t drink and go searching for a mate. You might find one and have to admit someone like this guy is your child.

    Yes- Hooray for Linux!

    • Emigrant for a Reason says:

And I looked for this in the Onion, and googled for it, and have failed to find any hints it isn’t real… Help!

  156. Ang says:

Damn… he lives up to the stereotypes, and I’m so sorry that he gives people such a bad name. Wow

  162. Andrew says:

Relax kiddies. This guy made it on the FAIL website. That means he is an idiot. He and others that share views like him are in the minority. They make it big on sites like this but not in the real world because they are known to be fail prone. Natural Selection will weed idiots like this out (of all races) over time.

  163. Andy says:

Hey Wendy if you see this post, me and the Shaun are gonna head out to see Alice in Wonderland. Text me if you wanna go cause we have enough to get 3 tickets.

  164. Bobbie says:

    LMFAO

    Seriously, that is golden.
