The recipes in the book are meant to provide specific nutrition to aid in fighting off the disease. They mean the title quite literally.

For all of you thinking that Alzheimer’s is so funny, you need to grow up. I’ve had relatives with Alzheimer’s and I’ve watched them slowly die as an end result. And since it appears to be genetic, it might happen to me sooner or later. If you think forgetting the people you love or your best memories is funny, you are twisted beyond my reckoning. And as it has been repeatedly pointed out, this is only a fail if taken out of context.

No, sorry, it’s from the city of Thunder Bay, ON in Canada. The picture on the front is the Pagoda, our local city tourist office.

You have probably seen one in your town, each Alzheimer’s Society in each city puts out their own “Recipes to Remember” cookbook, but it isn’t this one. This one is definitely from Thunder Bay, ON.

The title “Recipes to Remember” was picked because it is sold as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer society… so yeah, not a fail at all if you ask me.

Cool. I think my father bought one of these when I was a kid. I don’t remember it saying Thunder Bay on it, but it might have been the same one in Winnipeg. I think some of my first baking was based on recipes from the version I had.

ammcneil, you’re correct in part of what you’re saying, that stereotypes are part of the problem. Although 48% of the Aboriginal population in Thunder Bay are living in poverty (HALF of the Aboriginal population! HALF), Aboriginal people only make up 17% of the people who are receiving social assistance in this city. So obviously the idea that it’s only Aboriginal people on social assistance is RIDICULOUS. Apparently it’s all us whities who are standing in line for those Welfare cheques (yes Welfare cheques, not ‘wellfare checks’, learn to spell). As for drinking Listerine, I guess James has followed every Aboriginal person around to see what they do with their spare time. And following them to the store and to the Casino to see what they spend their money on. Funny, because my brother used to work at the Casino, and it was usually old white people that I saw there… And funny that all of the Aboriginal people in my life don’t drink or smoke (or gamble). They must be the only Aboriginal people in the city that that’s true about, since the rest are obviously low-life degenerates like James says, and no white people are like that.

Apparently I’m still pissed about this. I sure hope I meet James some day. We could have a really great conversation.

the thing is, the majority of low wealth population in thunder bay IS first nations, but only because the stereotype is there. you want a job? the employer wants white, they don’t want “one of them dirty Indians working here” the racism limits opportunities for these people, and then it ‘justifies’ itself when they find them in the welfare line a year later, it’s self fulfilling, and it sickens me. people are going to try to call me out saying that i have only been here for two years, make no mistake, i have been threatened by drunk foaming at the mouth natives, and it wouldn’t matter the colour of their skin to me, it’s the person that is bad, not the people.

This is from my hometown of Alpena, MI! We are located right on Thunder Bay (look it up) and we have a museum here called the Jesse Besser Museum. I was going through it with my father (who lives in another state and had never seen our one and only semi-interesting site) when we stopped in their gift shop area. We saw this book and laughed our butts off about it, but never thought of putting it on here. Since I’m from a small town, this is exciting. We have NOTHING interesting here, so…yay!

This is not a true fail, it is called “Recipes to remember” because it is sold to fund Alzheimer research and care. They’re selling the “recipes” to help people “remember”. I guess it is a fail in that it over the heads of many people who think it’s a recipe book for people with Alzheimer’s. but that’s not a fault of the cookbook. Not the quality of fail I have come to expect.

The reason it is a fail is obscured by the fact that the image itself is for some unknown reason, a lot darker than it appeared during voting.

On the bottom of the book there are words that refer to it being a fundraiser for Alzheimers’.
