At least I’m a troll SMART enough to not look like a douche in Aviator shades…

Blah-Blah-Blog…purists like you make me ILL–it took many hours of creative thinking and lots of work to make that entire costume from scratch w/o ANY patterns (minus the helmet of course, I’m not THAT talented-yet)…so I’d have to say I put at LEAST as much effort into what I’ve done FOR FUN’S SAKE as anyone else in any historically-accurate attire at any RenFaire. If I could actually AFFORD to travel to & get tickets for a sci-fi convention (and the only good ones are in So.Cal. & I live in Houston, mind you), I would certainly do so to avoid being berated by your kind-both in public & on sites like this.

Henceforth, try letting us all know when that diamond you’ve been making inside your unbelievably tightly-compressed ANAL cavity finally drops out…I’ll gladly cash it in to buy tickets to whatever RenFaire YOU are NOT attending.

Well put–it’s all about the FUN and a temporary detour from the stink of reality. I’ll sport that costume @ TexRenFest as long as they keep letting me in the door, since I’ve never-repeat, never-been to any sci-fi convention in my life and didn’t get to do such a cool costume for the first 33 Halloweens in my life. It’s a blast dressing up like that, what else can I say?

Obi-Wan, I’m beginning to feel that the Star Wars gear should get left in our closets this time around–especially for Scottish Highland weekend. Truth–more attention was attracted the 1st time I wore the Vader getup to TRF, sans kilt, and the crowd of people throughout the day was so overwhelming that my friends & I could hardly enjoy the festivities. The Kilted Vader idea was amusing to many, and a relief to the wearer–I didn’t have to trip over half as many kids wanting pictures.

Hiya ‘Eppie’–can you believe our photo ended up on here? HUZZAH for Internet infamy/notoriety!!
To clear up some questions/curiousities:
I’m the dork in Vader garb, the location is the Texas Renaissance Festival near Houston, my buddy (who’s not pictured there) was ALSO wearing a kilt & sash over his Obi-Wan costume-which I made both his stuff & mine while being extremely bored behind a sewing machine, and this wasn’t the 1st time we went to TRF in Star Wars gear; we actually saw a guy in white Stormtrooper armor sporting a kilt 2 years prior, so we thought it would be a gas to take his efforts up a notch…it’s all in great fun, and well worth the 5-10 lbs of water weight lost during the course of a day in costume while having literally hundreds of pictures taken with adoring fans of the Vader character. And it’s just awesome to break from the norm and enjoy our dorky individuality a couple times a year.
Now if I could only get my wife to dress up like this…

You make a good point, Ms. B.
As it stands, today’s culture demands the major part of society to partake in whatever the whole desires and sets as a standard.
Essentially, “validating your existence” can, in some cases, be the only thing makes some movies worth watching.

In my opinion, however, Star Wars I – III completed the whole.
If you found them crappy, I won’t say they weren’t… but there was a certain quality of fullness after they were finished.
That being said, the story and acting aren’t the real point.
Once Ep. I [The Phantom Menace] was released, Lucas and company needed to expand the universe far beyond the reached of six films.
Novels, comics, and video games allowed further expansion into a universe that was impossible to reach prior to their release.
Those who know the difference between Forms I through VII or those who know who Tyvokka [Wookie Jedi for the win] is… simply have no desire to validate their existence with those around them.
They are themselves on a different level than others, and therefore I beg to differ that Star Wars has value only in its pop culture or cult following.
Those in the cult have no idea as to what they’re doing.
