  2. ClabberHead says:

Environmentalist wacko Win you mean :)

    • Hasabrain says:

      How ignorant of you.

      • Scythelord says:

No, how normal of him. Environmentalism is low on the priority list.

      • FAILasfds4353252 says:

Ignorant of what? It was environmentalism, he wasn’t wrong there.

        • David says:

No, it’s not environmentalism, moron, he was wrong: Three seconds of Googling would’ve revealed to you that Eskom is South Africa’s national electricity supplier, that has run into major problems of demand outstripping supply due to their poor planning. This is a government ad campaign by a national utility as part of their “demand-side management strategy”.

          • Chucky says:

Eskom is indeed actually a major fail. We have these national electricity warning thingys telling us when we’re using too much electricity. Fail due to the fact that after every advertisement it’s either in the red or green. Telling us to switch of everything until they let us know…and yet we have to watch tv for them to let us know. If it weren’t for the huge money scam they had two years ago….things would’ve probably went better, but due to Jacob Zuma’s corruption scam… he used most of the money that was supposed to go for getting Eskom back onto it’s feet for his presidential inauguration. It cost us tax payers 48 million rand for that….and another big lump sum for his daughter’s big party. I don’t even know his damn daughter. but yes we can just say…..COUNTRY FAIL!

            • Andrew Ong says:

Who says Eskom has failed? Have a closer look at the billboard – the left-hand side is blank – only the right-hand side actually has the necessary print! Environmentalists know climate change 100%! Not to mention the Kyoto Protocol for reducing greenhouse gas emissions – Sayonara polluters!

              • Jake says:

…which America didn’t agree to. Hmm, where’s that place with the factories again?

              • tapdog says:

the only reason we had to reduce electricity consumption was so the fatcat running ESKOM could get his R1 million Rand bonus. the whole advert cost a fortune to run while we sat in the dark for hours. they put warnings of electricity usage on TV which we could not see due to blackouts!

          • thomeval says:

            A WINNER IS YOU

    • Heavy D says:

Sweet! Exactly what I was thinking.

  3. Gleb says:

Sooo, what’s the rest of the billboard?

  4. jam says:

My lights are on but no one is home.

  5. Roswell says:

well for a ‘wacko’ hes pretty smart, betchu couldnt think of something like this…

  6. Aja says:

    The other three are blacklights.

  7. Id says:

  8. Id says:

    A controversial conservation conversation piece?

  11. udd says:

The lady got out of the bus and taught us how to spell fish.

  12. Omnes_Servos says:

  13. If you turn on the lights during the day does anyone see them?.

  14. Kendra says:

  15. Arthur Eld says:

  24. DoctorWu says:

  25. Ex-Saffa says:

This is actually a fail. The words “electricity”, “wisely” and “Eskom” simply do not gel together.

  26. zyklonb says:

No one knows saving like africa does…

  27. C says:

  31. olaf metender says:

    great ad.

  32. olaf metender says:

    @mike: yes!!!

  33. SpaceMan says:

Use electricity for billboard ads. That’s what they were thinking: MONEY

  34. Calvin says:

I dont know if it is so much of a fail as good marketing? is there a barometer for failing or good marketing?

    Calvin stuffboredpeoplelike.com

  35. Ambrox says:

Use giant piece of paper wisely.

  36. --\m/>. says:

well,i think they made their point…i mean, they only used that one part of the billboard so they would only have to use 1/4 of the electricity that would have been necessary had they filled the whole sign.

unfortunately, they probably had to rent particularly large board to prove that point and still make the message visible from afar, thus making the conservation point void.i give it a fail.

  37. Gone2thedogs says:

    Clever.

  38. Gone2thedogs says:

    Comment No. 300

  39. Now that is one smart sign. Very nice.

  40. Telepathetic says:

    Yaye! FailBlog Fail!

  41. GodlessTurtle says:

    Very good..I like this saving.

  42. Tony V says:

I live in Johannesburg South Africa, where this board was flighted , almost a year ago.
If you look at the context of the time during which this poster was flighted, you’ll probably feel it was a great execution. At the time we had several power failures in our country due to un scheduled maintenance (they claimed) wet coal (they claimed) and low coal stock piles (they claimed). The use of electricity was on everyone’s mind and a drive was on to educate people about saving electricity. In fact certain billboard companies such as Primedia (I used to work for them) decided to put their illuminated billboards on timer so that they would switch of during the quietest times at night. The would switch off att 11 pm and come on again at 4:30 am to catch the morning traffic. This billboard is brilliant, it’s clever and it gives you a laugh too.
    and that’s m 10 cents.

  43. headgear56 says:

    Nice use of a billboard

  44. :) says:

I want to kiss the designer of this board! :D
The idea must have hit him like a rock to the head!
This doesn’t happen often enough does it? :/ Win!

  45. Tess says:

Clever, but wouldn’t work in the day time

  46. 1337 says:

    South africa, win!

  47. Robert says:

Um… that’s a FAIL… they can only afford to power one light. Mostly because they’ve let the existing power stations fall to pieces and failed to generate enough for those that need it.

Conservation? NO, simple case of they can’t provide the service.

  48. appysandpaints says:

Yes they are conserving electricity. No, they are not conserving paper.

  49. Firestorm28 says:

that is a fail and a win in conservation:
    it conserves lighting and electricty
and not paper and bilboard space
    WTF?!?!?

  50. Look behinde you! says:

    Reply if you love America!

  51. Andrew says:

Too bad they waste electricity for advertising.

  52. PATRICK says:

    That’s so predictable! XD

  53. Tiago says:

    Epic Win !

  54. cata says:

    100 % WIN

  55. meh. says:

Surely It’s A Fail Because Of The Amount Of Paper Wasted? O.o

  56. jim lahey says:

its still wasteing all of that paper

  57. ........ says:

    Did he live?

  58. hoobahooba says:
