I’d play with you. As a kid I had to travel alot in the holidays. One place I went to regularly had a cemetary just down the road. A cousin and I would play there for hours.
At the University of Oregon, there is a cemetery right in the middle of campus. I used to cut through it to get to one of my classes, and people would sit on the headstones and study on nice days.
I find it comforting to walk through them. Every time I feel my life sucks I just go there and I feel better about everything. I think of all those people who had lives, families, work, and their whole life is summed up in “Beloved Husband and Father”. It makes me feel better about being insignificant.
Then there’s stuff like my clickie that makes realized just how well off I am.
When I spent the summer in England doing research for my dissertation, I used to wander through the really old cemeteries and read the inscriptions (when legible). Usually they did the whole “Beloved Wife/Daughter/Son/Husband” thing…but I ran across one that I have never been able to forget.
It was a woman who died in her 30’s…the inscription dated from the late 17th century. It said, “In memorium of an adventurous soul and loving heart”. And I was instantly fascinated by what kind of woman she must have been to be remembered for such things. I somehow got the feeling that I would have liked her very much, and could only hope to leave such memories of my own life.
On my mother’s headstone, at her request, is this inscription:
“She wasn’t perfect, but she loved us as if we were.”
(I am the eldest of five VERY beloved children.) *snif*
My grandfather and I were searching for his sisters grave (She and I had the same birthday). We were spread out. I came across a stone with my name on it. That will stop you dead, so to speak, in your tracks.
As a kid I used to be taken to Undercliffe Cemetery near Bradford for walks. It has a lot of massive ornate memorials for mill and landowners in the area. It also has my favourite grave there.
First, the wife died and was buried.
Then, the husband died and was buried.
Finally, the second wife died and was buried.
All in the same grave, there’s some nice company for eternity.
If I was a kid at that playground, I would go and play by the water tower in the background. Then I’d probably start digging in the ground to look for zombies.

BFF, you’re getting in just ahead of me today! How are your posts coming all the way from (Olde) England and passing mine in New England? You must have very fast Intertubes over there!
I think it evolved. WN asked if I was a “swell foop.” I thought, I could be. So, I was for a while. I tried out “just swell foop.” Actually, DW, I think I was trying to sneak away from “foop,” realizing it easily rhymed with … excrement. “foop” isn’t a very dignified name. *sigh* Now, I just don’t know.
*having identity crisis, apparently*
Thanks for the special signs and sorry for yesterday, my rants get bad at times, well all the time, I do not purposely mean to piss off or annoy people. I just steamroll through things sometimes. So I am really sorry Dragon, I just really hope you don’t believe I am a woman hater.
*wistfully walks away to the corner*
Well, now I don’t know if I answer you now/here, or when you get back/wherever that is in the posts.
.
“Hmmmphhh!!” is basically just my way of saying, “Good one! Ya got me!”
.
MRN is short for My Required Name, which I have shortened for safety and profit reasons, I guess.
ACtually – it’s not photo shopped – it’s in the town in which I live in Iowa. And the playground is up the street and to the left – across the road from the cemetary. I never thought of the sign that way until seeing it now here! Too funny.
One summer, when I was a Y.M.C.A. day camp counselor we took a field trip to a cemetery. The kids loved it. There was an open grave that they got to try out.
This looks nice. It’s well kept, there are a lot of flowers around, which means people care and I personally think it’s a good thing for the young’uns to be comfortable with death. It gives them something to look forward to after a life full of hard work, abuse, neglect and disappointment. Charming in every way.
That song is depressing, well to me as I always associate it with the loss of something or someone.
*Is reminded of the grandmother that is no longer with me on this mother’s day*
^ brain fail. the shadow of the sign is mixed in with the branches on the left. also, would someone really go to the trouble of finding a picture of that sign with the appropriate shadowing on it just to make a funny photo?
And they were singin’,
Bye, bye Miss American Pie,
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry,
Them good ol’ boys was drinkin’ whiskey and rye,

This’ll be the day that I die…
It’s too expensive to send a hammer. Try a rock, or, alternatively, take it ouside and pound it on the nearest brick wall or run over it with a truck. Works for me.
Hmm…and I HAVE a truck, too… *leers at keyboard while rubbing hands together*
Ah, well, I just settled for banging it edge-on on the kitchen table several times, turning it upside down, and shaking the crud out of it. (aaa AAA –Seems to have worked!)
Ummm, well, obviously the playground is on the other side of the road. Select-angle photography is not a fail. Where’s the quality control dude who selects theses pics?
I live around the corner from this exact sign….really!! It is located in Iowa, about 10 miles south of the minnesota border. If you go down the street you run into a huge park with baseballs fields and playground equipment. The water tower is across the street from the cemetery. My grandfather is buried in this cemetery.
I posted this picture, no it is not photoshopped, the shadow is mixed in with the tree shadow on the left side.
And to those of you who care to know, yes it is in Estherville Iowa, I have family that lives there and this “playground” is just down the street from one of their houses.
Seriously people!! This is a real cemetery… with real people’s family and friends in it. In a real hometown!! With a park practically right in front of that sign next to the cemetery!!! Think people before you go posting things like this, it’s hurtful!
I would disagree,it is simply a photo of a road sign in a grave yard. I would also have to say that having that sign in a grave yard is ironic and amusing at the same time. you couldn’t read a name on one of the head stones if you tried,so why the fuss? I can see 4 of my dead relatives graves in this pic (I will not mention names) and it doesn’t offend me in the slightest! that is not the intention of the pic! I mean seriously, would it make you feel better if there was a black tent covering the whole grave yard so nobody could see it? get a grip!
funny as it is, its a true sign haha. Its in Estherville Iowa, my hometown. I grew up about 2 blocks from this sign, its right by Thorsen Park which is a block up the road. Thats why the sign is there im guessing, funny now that i see it though haha
you sick sick people. You wait until your closest loved one dies and then some sick person posts a pic on the internet. You all need to go to hell. This is sick, rude, offensive and morally wrong.
And people who say it’s disrespectful- it’s a comedy site. We’re not saying anything bad about your dead family members. Just that it’s ironic that the playground sign is so close to the cemetery and it looks like the sign was supposed to be for the cemetery. No one (besides you) said anything about the graves. Just the sign. Just the fact that it’s a cemetery. Only because the sign is there. We respect your family members. We just think the placement of the sign is kinda funny.

Until the 20th century people used to have picnics in cemeteries.

Sign casting no shadow. Fail-failed
That would be great for hide and go seek!
I’d play with you. As a kid I had to travel alot in the holidays. One place I went to regularly had a cemetary just down the road. A cousin and I would play there for hours.

*sigh* too early…

If you could write your own epitaph, what would it be?
Dammit, Dragon, it’s too early for tears today!
Sowwy.
*squeeze*
And knowing me, my epitaph would be a pun that would transform all tears to groans!
I’d like a solar powered gravestone with a button, that when pressed would play Louie Armstrong singing “What a Wonderful World”.
On my mother’s headstone, at her request, is this inscription:
“She wasn’t perfect, but she loved us as if we were.”
(I am the eldest of five VERY beloved children.) *snif*
Mine will probably read something like,
“He said he knew what he was doing”.
Mine would be:
“A guy whose life was too awesome to sum up on one tombstone.”
Mine would be a la Spike Milligan:
“Hey, I told you I was ill”
Mine would say “Hey, ‘Oh shi-’ IS famous last words.
Forgot the end “.
Here Lies David St Hubbins…
And why not?
Mine should read “Are You Sure I’m Here?”
Epitaph for Edgar Allen Poe:
“Let me out! I’m not really dead!”
Anyone for a glass of Amontillado? (sp?)
OK!… and don’t call me sherry.
My grandfather and I were searching for his sisters grave (She and I had the same birthday). We were spread out. I came across a stone with my name on it. That will stop you dead, so to speak, in your tracks.
Next to my work is a cemetery, and immediately next to that is a health club. Things that make you go “hmmm”.
In Seattle Washelli Cemetery is right next to Northwest Hospital. There is an even bigger “hmmm”.
Now THAT I can understand. It cuts down on transportation costs.
It’s a damn depressing view from your room I can tell you.
nice… my friend Paul sent ne a picture of my gravestone… I died 20 years ago in Arizona. It was a very profound experience.
Did it drive you to build a time machine?
I googled my name (who doesn’t) and found out that I died in WWII.
How?
Valiantly no doubt.
Featured in the picture as well as the comments.
That doesn’t happen often.

(…darn fog, delaying my flights…grrr).
but dont go out at night, rattle snakes and poison ivy are in that playground…
looks a fun place for kids!
As long as they don’t decide to dig a hole to China.
yeah… “Hey Daven, how far do we have to dig until AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!”
looks fun for everyone !
First!
refreshing fail…. pay no more attention to this troll- do not post about trolls here, giving them attention is what they want.
But we can talk about, say…what that large water tank is for, right?
Water helps with the decomposition process and flushes away the nasty smells.
Makes for easier hole diggin’ too…
Ultra fail.
I can’t call you from the playground – it’s in a dead zone.

It took many tragedies before the play equipment was finally recalled.
This is the best comment I’ve seen in quite some time from (what I assume to be) a non-regular!
Hear hear!

(since I have no idea which is correct)
I think it’s hear, hear.
I think you should use “hear hear ” here.

Thank you both, BFF and MRN, very much.
I hear hear you loud and clear. *grin*
What happened to your foop??
I think it evolved. WN asked if I was a “swell foop.” I thought, I could be. So, I was for a while. I tried out “just swell foop.” Actually, DW, I think I was trying to sneak away from “foop,” realizing it easily rhymed with … excrement. “foop” isn’t a very dignified name. *sigh* Now, I just don’t know.
*having identity crisis, apparently*
Awww.
Well, I think “swell foop” would be a perfect name for you. It makes me smile, anyway!
Because “foop” is very cute, and you are swell!
…Okay, that was bad. My point remains the same, though.
Not bad at all! “Swell foop,” it shall be. And thanks, DW, you quite helped me weather the crisis. Best of all, you made me feel just swell! *squeeze*
YAY!
*squeeze*
In one fell swoop, just swell is swell foop.
That is perfectly marvelous.
Meh, it’s not a haiku.
It starts as “just swell”.
“Swell foop” is then considered.
Soon will be “just foop”.
sure looks fun ;_;
thats an unsafe playground
Oh come on- those “Jungle stones” look like fun and plenty of them too!
Where are the little horsies on springs? Hmph…this graveyard playground isn’t nearly as nice as that other one. It, at least, had toys!
Bring your own 2×8 and you have a teeter-totter!
# This used to be be my playground

I was too lazy to look for the ♫ symbol.
Never mind the ♫ symbol, where did you find the # symbol?
On my computer, it’s next to the “enter” key.
Actually, where DO you find the music note thingy? I’ve always had to copy and paste.
Neener–clickie.
Thanks, though it try to stay away from doing html in these things… .
I’ll bookmark it, however.

Excellent resource! I can use that for work and I’m going to print it out!
Thank you MRN and dragonwriter, got them bookmarked now ☺

Happy to help!
Was that a Ghost ref, foop?
one way to keep it handy for quick use would be to include it in your name
That is such a GREAT idea!
Another would be to keep a TextEdit file open.
Your comments are in a League of Their Own.
Am I the first person to point out that this is Photoshopped. The sign has no shadow… or is it. A GHOST SIGN!
But then we would have to stop posting, and where’s the fun in that?
Nah, you can see the shadow if you look more closely.
The playground is across the <<== street at the Sewer Treatment Facility!
Anyone seen Paris Hilton?
Perhaps those two headstones over there are hers?
I call Photoshop as well. No shadow.
I called Photoshop. No answer (I guess ’cause it’s Sunday).
No. It’s because they have caller ID.
Hmmmphhh!!
They say that if you email them one more time, the FBI will be on your doorstep.
I told you not to send us any more emails!
Easy there MRN, just my sarcastic streak coming out (it was too easy to resist). BTW what is MRN anyway?
Going to the pub, and I’ll be back in a couple hours, or when I run out of money, whichever comes first.
Well, now I don’t know if I answer you now/here, or when you get back/wherever that is in the posts.

“Hmmmphhh!!” is basically just my way of saying, “Good one! Ya got me!”
.
MRN is short for My Required Name, which I have shortened for safety and profit reasons, I guess.
I got to the pub and my LEAST favorite bartender was on. You know, the one who scres up the orders and never gives out a freebie, so I came back.
Got the MRN.

neither do the trolls

I used to play in a cemetary all the time. That might be because my grandpa was the caretaker though…..
I would not want to be the caretaker at a cemetery. When I died, I would feel like I was still at work for all eternity.
Comment Win
Oddly enough, he isn’t buried in the cemetery he worked in for 30 years. He isn’t even buried in the same state.
One summer, when I was a Y.M.C.A. day camp counselor we took a field trip to a cemetery. The kids loved it. There was an open grave that they got to try out.
People used to go on picnics to cemeteries.
*surreptitiously adds missing comma*
My old elementary school is across the street from a funeral home.
I don’t really have any funny stories though… it was mainly just creepy.
Does a funeral home call its mail room the Dead Letter Office?
Oh, they use e-mail now. Everything is done over the inter-net.
Does the crematorium use Hotmail.com?
I’ve just remembered a very bad joke.
Q: Why are cemeteries so popular?
A: People are dying to get in!

WTF
Water Tower Fail?
I think you missed the point then.
Let’s hope not. Flooding and graves don’t mix well. (At least old graves. New graves have a vault system which prevents that kind of unpleasantness.)
umm … I see dead people?
Strange, the street sign itself does not drop any shadows. Strange, huh?, or photoshoped?
Look again, there to the left – on the ground!
Ah, yes, the Playground Massacre of 1985. Truly a dark day in this little town of Morrison..
Yes, it was decreed that all should be buried where they fell.
A dark day because they were all Waiting for the Sun in the Morrison Hotel?
This used to link to Yamato1’s comment – I swear it did! *sobs*
Just try to see in the dark
Just try to make it work
*totally misses reference and wander away unharmed*

wat a great playground!! id play there any day!!! =D
I guess Zombies need their fun too.
This looks nice. It’s well kept, there are a lot of flowers around, which means people care and I personally think it’s a good thing for the young’uns to be comfortable with death. It’s a Wonderful World is depressing? I think it’s beautiful. Depressing is my clickie.
I can’t think of a more uplifting song. Except maybe “Don’t worry, be happy”.
(No. Not really.)
“Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head…”
That’s one of my favourites.
In the cases I have encountered the song yes.
Wow, The Wonderful Sign Without Shadow… FAKE, so obvious
You’re so alliterate!
Ah, literally!

^One way to get yourself arrested in the middle of the street.
I think the playground died
According to Don McLean, the music did too.
And they were singin’,

Them good ol’ boys was drinkin’ whiskey and rye,
And singin’ this’ll be the day that I die,
This’ll be the day that I die…
It’s all fun and games until someone takes an eye out.
Where do they eyes go when you take them out?
I took mine to the cinema and out for a meal.
I was jealous though, other men were eyeing it up.
They probably thought they were eye-candy
It was a real eye-openener for me. I didn’t realise it would be so popular.
I bet those other men got an eyeful, though!
iOpener? Is that a new gizmo from Apple/
Yes, but the iBall is the most popular among women

Reminds me of a cemetery here in Hollywood: “Hollywood Forever”. I kid you not.
Oh, the wonders that I find
In the playground in my mind
In a world that used to be,
Close your eyes and follow me…
I guess this is where all the children are sent to after they go on the slide!
I skimmed over the comments and didn't see mention of it, but did anyone notice who submitted this? Now that you point it out the name is familiar, but I can’t recall the history.
It's a little kids cartoon. That one I remember. There was also someone here who used that name.
Here at Fail Blog?Yup. For the life of me I can not remember if he was friend or foe. My memory is shot.
I'm guessing someone who would use that as their name would be found in the 'foe' category.I saw that Fluffy is about. You might ask her, if you’re interested.
Google only finds ‘Skwerlly Bob the Builder’
Ummm, well, obviously the playground is on the other side of the road. Select-angle photography is not a fail. Where’s the quality control dude who selects theses pics?

hey nelle
i think thats right next to my old school. we had the cemetary on the road into the school district. not sure though. kinda looks like it though
i think playing with dolls is a popular acitivty in this playground
Having a playground near a cemetery doesn’t bother me.
Having the municipal aquifer directly below hundreds of decomposing bodies though…

Its common practice for a small town to use a cemetary as a playground.

I can see 4 of my dead relatives graves in this pic (I will not mention names) and it doesn’t offend me in the slightest! that is not the intention of the pic! I mean seriously, would it make you feel better if there was a black tent covering the whole grave yard so nobody could see it? get a grip!
I hope your deamons catch up with you
funny as it is, its a true sign haha.
This is sick, rude, offensive and morally wrong.
knowone here but u knows wich grave it is so why get upset ,any way evryone looks at hte sighn insted
This place is across the street from a major park in Monterey CA, Denis the Menace Park. Ive been there a number of times when I was younger.
Oooh! The playground looks fun!!!!!
We just think the placement of the sign is kinda funny.
don’t think its real, can’t see the shadow of the sign, only form the tree
win, i like things that suggest dead children
I think this is Photoshop ’cause I don´t see the sing’s shadow, only the tree
