There’s a room with a door just like that at my work, but that’s because there’s a security grill which can come over the main bit when it’s closed. Maybe it’s something like that?

i think the wall is one of those sliding metal doors they lock at night, so if you need to get in (janitors) then you go through the regular door.

The wall on the edge seems to be a darker shade of paint, the wall has been knocked down obviously. If this is the case it would be cheaper to leave the door there other than remove it. Not really a ‘failing’.

we had one a door like this in my grade school what it is is a sliding door that turns into a wall kind of like a hideaway wall so that when you wanted two rooms instead of one you can use the doorway. not really a fail at all…..

There’s another possibility no one has mentioned – folding walls. I’m sure you’ve seen them. They are often found in large conference rooms, set-up so one big room can be broken down into several smaller ones.
I wish we could get a good look at the stuff near the left edge of the picture. That beige box may be the lock mechanism for a folding wall.

It isn’t a mirror, and it isn’t in your sliding school hallway. It is a door fitted with a lock in a wall that you can walk around to get into the other room. The lock is the fail, not the door
