Developer Win: Win a Ticket to SXSW 2009

Cheezburger API Contest

The FAILBlog/Cheezburger developers have been working on an API to allow developers to browse and submit content on to our Cheezburger Platform. We’re in the early phases of the API development, but we thought we’d check with you FAILers and ask you for some winning ideas. So…

Win a ticket to this year’s South By Southwest by emailing us your ideas of what to do with a Cheezburger API. EG: I’d make an application that does [WOW], if the Cheez Devs make an API that gives me [STUFF].

Most people know us as a picture + caption site, but we’re building out a platform that allows anyone to create, vote on and feature mashups of photos and whatever else you can think of.

Your entry email must be received at cheezburgerapi@gmail.com by 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time, February 6, 2009.

PROTIPS/RULES:

  • Our FAILBlog/Cheez Devs will pick one winner with the most well thought-out answer. We may email finalists for further details. Code skills not required.
  • The SXSW pass is for the Interactive festival. Cool.
  • Let your imagination run wild and help us dream up some cool API epic win.
  • An iPhone/Android/Newton app that allows you to caption and submit pix will be failed immediately — ’cause we already have that.
  • Failure to follow instructions will result in snide comments and mockery. You might just make the home page of FAILBlog.
  • We may publish any emailed ideas for all to see. The originator will be credited.
  • The SXSW 2009 ticket code will be emailed to the winner. No hotel or airfare is included.
  • Feel free to repost this. :)

Our current beta API allows the following:

  • Upload new photos for captioning, or mashing up.
  • Upload already captioned photos and meta data.
  • Authenticate Cheezburger accounts.
  • Get a feed of top-rated images.
  • Get a feed of uncaptioned images.
  • Run caption contests for any particular picture
  • And soon, much much more.

  16. Design Dog says:

    SIMPLE.

    SWITCH TO DRUPAL.

You can have access to lots of API’s
and even write your own modules.

  17. Developer says:

So…by reading the posting, it sounds like you already have a great API and “Soon, much much more”.

    My first thoughts:

    1. Nothing I send will be good enough because Failblog seems to think they have it all together.

    2. You may be confusing an entire Application Programming Interface with wanting us to provide you with an idea for new features.

    IE:
API would explain delivery method, object model, authentication, authorization.

A new feature would be: It would be cool if I could be notified by text message when a FailPic I created makes it to the home page.
