The FAILBlog/Cheezburger developers have been working on an API to allow developers to browse and submit content on to our Cheezburger Platform. We’re in the early phases of the API development, but we thought we’d check with you FAILers and ask you for some winning ideas. So…
Win a ticket to this year’s South By Southwest by emailing us your ideas of what to do with a Cheezburger API. EG: I’d make an application that does [WOW], if the Cheez Devs make an API that gives me [STUFF].
Most people know us as a picture + caption site, but we’re building out a platform that allows anyone to create, vote on and feature mashups of photos and whatever else you can think of.
Your entry email must be received at cheezburgerapi@gmail.com by 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time, February 6, 2009.
PROTIPS/RULES:
- Our FAILBlog/Cheez Devs will pick one winner with the most well thought-out answer. We may email finalists for further details. Code skills not required.
- The SXSW pass is for the Interactive festival. Cool.
- Let your imagination run wild and help us dream up some cool API epic win.
- An iPhone/Android/Newton app that allows you to caption and submit pix will be failed immediately — ’cause we already have that.
- Failure to follow instructions will result in snide comments and mockery. You might just make the home page of FAILBlog.
- We may publish any emailed ideas for all to see. The originator will be credited.
- The SXSW 2009 ticket code will be emailed to the winner. No hotel or airfare is included.
- Feel free to repost this.
Our current beta API allows the following:
- Upload new photos for captioning, or mashing up.
- Upload already captioned photos and meta data.
- Authenticate Cheezburger accounts.
- Get a feed of top-rated images.
- Get a feed of uncaptioned images.
- Run caption contests for any particular picture
- And soon, much much more.

You ever take a dump made you feel like you’d just slept for twelve hours?
You don’t seem to understand the idea of a reply. It must, in some way, be related to the other post in order to make sense.
You know what it takes to reply to this post?
It takes brass balls to reply to this post.
then who drinks tea? Openers?
…”Dressed up like a million dollar trooper,
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper”…
…”Oooopahhh-nooopaaahhh!”…
Inhouse development fail
mkayy
So, instead of our usual 7:00 a.m. fail, we get propaganda? Failblog fails us. I weep.
Uhhhh….never mind.
LOL @ teh Microsoft Monkey.
stop making banner ads that cause internet explorer to close
ZING! where do i pick up my tickets?
Use Chrome. Seriously.
Or Firefox.
agree IE is for failers
Netscape Navigator for the win!
Seriously anything but IE..even a letter opener=win compared to IE
if your site causes 72 % of all browser users to occasionally FAIL then i call developer FAIL

True, IE is actually smaller (Memory Footprint) and faster (So long as you haven’t downloaded smiley central.) than FireFox.
not really…
IE’s memory foot print is twice the size of Mozilla’s…
IE uses 180MB and and Mozilla under a 100 MB..

And you are right start up time is longer, but once it gets to loading
the actual pages with the javascript and css Mozilla Firefox is faster
Mozilla takes about 350 miliseconds to load a sample javascript IE
about 800 miliseconds

There are other reasons why IE sucks (security/lack of extensions/
not following standards)
Just try to visit this site in IE:

P.S. A search for “Firefox sucks” on Google returned 316 000 hits
and “Internet Explorer sucks” 1 120 000….
Sure, all that sounds good, but if it wasn’t for adblock, I wouldn’t give arat’s ass about Firefox
a rat’s ass
Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering what you were doing with Arat’s tushie.
The text box was cut off, so Arat can rest easy, I’m not interested in his.her tushie
IE8 Using 49MB
FF3.Whatever uses 121MB
Both on the same page.

Firefox Takes more than Twice the time to load.

P.S. A search for “You are an Idiot” on Google returned 524,000 hits
and “I am an Idiot” 254,000….
Vista FAILS.
IE 8 > IE 7, you were using IE 8 in crashie.com.
SAFARI FTW
Vista doesn’t fail.
Safari’s font Rendering makes me want to kill people and it looks aweful.

IE is [] faster [] than FireFox.
Such a statement can’t be made and apply it to everything. It’s widely agreed tat Firefox performs better than IE in Speed, Security, and Ease of Use, which most of the time, it does (speed wise). IE looks like the moon when it comes to security Holes, and one thing I simply don’t understand in IE 7 is why on earth does it say “Connecting” when you try and open a blank tab? And also, why do I constantly, (this is on a public computer), even when I say “No,” do I get popups for at least 5 pages saying “Wanna check zis websits 4 phishes??.”
My rant is over, and done.
GO MONKEY BOY!!!! (Throws a banana at his head)
I’m on Ubuntu Linux using Firefox 3, and you don’t know how much I’m missing IE. CSS sucks on Firefox.
Um what? Firefox is standards-compliant with respect to CSS and the box model whereas IE has never been. Also Ubuntu is for noobs
Comparing loading times is a ridiculous way to compare browsers. It all depends on your isp, connection speed, computer, ram, whatever else you have running in the background… all things that are different for each user.
The fact alone that Microsoft sent out notices to owners of large websites that IE users may be vulnerable to attacks because of a coding issue that they made and hadn’t fixed yet makes me happy to keep using Firefox.
Personally, I wouldn’t go to a website called Crashie, that’s just asking for trouble.
It’s like the time I went to the GetStabbed bar. Happy Days.
You can’t spell FAIL without IE
Chrome = Browser FAIL (but spying on users WIN)
too cartoony looking, it looks like it was made for a 5 year old
Sorry snark, we’re hoping to get a less obvious idea than that.
Just a heads up from an FailBlog/Cheezburger developer (me).
1. We have a fix for the IE stability problems and are actively testing it now to make sure we don’t introduce any new problems to the mix.
2. Firefox and Chrome do not have this issue, so if using a different browser is an option for you. We suggest that, at least as a short-term solution.
Many apologies for the browser fail.
Wtf?
hey guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eugh….
Fail FAIL
I like my caption better.

buba is not afraid to fight the ugly monster on the picture.
Photoshop.
Okay….!!
Steve Ballmer photo gives me Idea.
I’d make an application that does [scream larynx out at sales staff], if the Cheez Devs make an API that gives me [chairs to throw].
Windows is teh sux. End of story.
Ubuntu all the way.
I know that picture, where is it from, isn’t it like some video where the microsoft product failed that he was demonstrating?
Definitely a fail.
He should have said “developers” 37 times instead of 35 times.
SIMPLE.
SWITCH TO DRUPAL.
You can have access to lots of API’s
and even write your own modules.
So…by reading the posting, it sounds like you already have a great API and “Soon, much much more”.
My first thoughts:
1. Nothing I send will be good enough because Failblog seems to think they have it all together.
2. You may be confusing an entire Application Programming Interface with wanting us to provide you with an idea for new features.
IE:
API would explain delivery method, object model, authentication, authorization.
A new feature would be: It would be cool if I could be notified by text message when a FailPic I created makes it to the home page.
oh i know what to do with a burger………
^ l l
The Fail here is Microsoft. Apple’s better. XD.
sxsw stinks!
