YouTube FAIL

UPDATE at 3:45pm: Well, that was fast! YouTube has unfailed our vids. For now. We’ll work with them to get to a long-term resolution on this.

tl;dr: YouTube banned us. But now we’re back. Until we are banned again for reasons we don’t get.

Original post: This is why the YouTube videos are not working at the moment:

At 2pm Pacific today, YouTube terminated the FAIL Blog account for our “Community Violations”. In all cases, we posted videos that were in line with what we had seen on YouTube. Heck, we’ve seen far more gory and far more offensive on YouTube. Prior to the termination of our account, FAIL Blog was the number 1 watched channel on YouTube this week. (Yes, even more than Britney’s channel.)

Despite our repeated requests from YouTube for better definition around what would be considered violations over the last several months, we were never informed. The two violations we received were on videos submitted by the users involved. And in either case, no one was hurt and as far as we could see and read, none of it violated YouTube’s stated community guidelines.

We’re going to do all we can to unfail our standing with YouTube and in the meantime, find other ways to bring you the FAILs you demand and deserve.

Don’t get us wrong, we love the ‘Tube. It’s just that we’d like to see better communication and service when it comes to dealing with their most popular channels.

If you do know someone at YouTube who could help us with this matter, please email their contact info to: failpictures+tubehelp@gmail.com

Unfailingly yours,
The FAIL Blog Team

  5. Nuno says:

Just post them in another place and update posts.

Takes some time but youtube looses business and why should you care about that? Too bad for them.

    Try vimeo

  6. Avis says:

For those that may have been wondering if the fine people of FailBlog pay attention to what gets said in the comments, it would appear that they do. They are always watching.

  7. A lump of coal for Christmas. Thanks a lot, FailTube.

  8. Stuart says:

eh, they seem to be working ok for me

  9. what? says:

What are you talking about? The youtube failblog channel is still up…

  10. Yarcofin says:

If I wasn’t already boycotting Youtube tomorrow for the Youtube Blackout Dec 19th – 21st, this would have pushed me over the edge.

    IZA FARKING BOULESHITE

  11. Howser says:

Well it appears that failblog has committed the worst sin of all in the great country of the united states. A crime that must not go unpunished and should never be overlooked. That crime is freedom of speech.

I have been offended for a moment by some things on failblog or the lol family of sites (political commentaries in bad taste and the like) but for the most part these things are all in jest and should not be removed.

As far as I have seen there has never been a copyright issue with failblog and their postings… youtube is most likely removing it because of their stance on some issue that fail or an affiliate has touched on in the past, and not for any violations that may have occurred.

Goes to show that freedom of speech is great as long as everyone says exactly what you want them to say.

Keep up the good fails, I say talk it out with failtube for a few days and after the holidays switch if they are not going to fix it.

    • BooBoo Fett says:

You do realize that free political speech in the US is different than a company (Google) exercising their right to do whatever the heck they want to on their servers, right? Google/YouTube’s servers, Google/YouTube’s rules (whatever they are) … If YouTube were owned by the US government, then you would have a valid point. COMMENT FAIL.

      • Howser says:

Actually I was referring to their supposed advocacy of freedom of speech. Youtube had claimed that as one of the things their site offered for a long while, even in the face copyright laws for some of its users.

The comment I am making here is freedom of speech, only if you agree with me.

booboo fett, learn to read. I mentioned politics as a means for them to be offended and take an adverse stance to one of their more popular users. Not to say that they are somehow connected with the federal government and part of conspiracy or anything like that.

While they are not connected to a government agency the ones who banned failblog may have been McCain/Bush supporters. Yes government agencies and companies are different, but they are both made up of people.

It is obvious you just wanted to post “COMMENT FAIL” on something since you missed the “First” comment and wanted to make you miserable life seem a little bit more significant in some other slightly less retarded way. Thanks for trying.

        • Vernunft says:

Maybe Obama supporters. After all, he was the guy with the truth squads silencing dissent!

And yeah, learn what the state action requirement is.

            • FtEustisHousingMaintenance says:

Ok..ok…. …let’s connect dots. YouTube is a division of FoxEntertainment (? last I heard) which is owned by Rupert Murdoch who is a big Pres. Bush supporter…….. hmmmm……. maybe much simpler……..FailBlog has ADS ……and if I click on FailBlog’s ad I’m not clicking on the identical ad on YouTube….. ex. Vat19 (cool stuff)

              • Avis says:

I MEANT that what’s-his-face up there, in the green avatar should go to Pundit Kitchen if he wants to talk politics.

                • Vernunft says:

You mean Howser, the guy who was talking politics and to whom I was merely responding? Political discussion for me but not for thee, eh? Go away.

                  • Howser says:

I wasn’t intending to start a political discussion, but the lol sites share the same rep, if someone down at failtube wants to harass pundit kitchen, but cant because they dont post videos, then harass fail instead.

That is all I was saying, moot point now though with the fails rolling again anyways.

              • Vernunft says:

YouTube is owned by Google, dude. So the first dot in your psychotic connect-the-dots adventure was false. EPIC FAIL

        • Rellakan. says:

good stuff, howser. i’m with you on this one- destroys my faith in the Tube!!!
          epic fail.
also, they should have a repeat-video shortcut so i can listen to music without having to pull down my windows and hit replay. that would be cool, eh? :D

          • Vernunft says:

Freedom of speech isn’t an action, it’s a right. You can’t freedom of speech. You can EXERCISE freedom of speech, of course. Howser doesn’t seem to get grammar.

He also doesn’t seem to get that YouTube deciding to take something down from its private site does not impact free speech in any way, since it’s not a compulsory government action restricting speech.

Does Howser think that when he refuses to read someone’s book, he’s restricting that person’s freedom of speech? FASCIST

  12. fluffy the fish says:

The thing is, that most these videos are on youtube anyways. They didn’t remove the other copies of the videos.

    • loufail says:

Maybe Youtube did not like Failblog adding its own logo (“as seen in Failblog”) to other videos already in Youtube (???, I just trying to guess)

      • AndrewARG says:

People SEND Failblog those videos…. They don’t TAKE them. Therefore the “copy Right” (Which there usually is none because most are home videos and news clips and what not) is surrendered. You have to CLAIM work. and PUT (c) on it for it to be your Copyrighted video. I don’t see many home videos or newsclips that put (c) This video is property of “ABCDEF” or FBI WARNING or anything.

  13. Rich says:

to hell with youtube, use liveleak instead. They don’t pull things for stupid reasons.

  14. Rich says:

Also, I’ve never seen anything on failblog that comes close to any of the gore i’ve seen on youtube. just look at:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOiWaTSypt4&feature=related

warning: second half is REALLY graphic

  15. Jack says:

Ever considered it might be for constantly stealing other people’s videos?

    • somewhat says:

By using the word «stealing», are you referring to posting something already on teh interwebs ? Because I’d hate to have you as a judge deciding my fate in court if you were…

  16. Capt Obvious says:

Must have been the couple of videos that didn’t have their logo on em.

  17. cats says:

    “failblog fails at youtube” LOL

  18. Franz says:

youtube blackout/BoyCott December 19th, search it

  19. Gladiator763 says:

    YouTube–YouFAIL!

  20. ~AR says:

failblog profile still shows fine for me on YT…
can still view all the vids too…am i missing something?

YT failed to banninnate failblog properly!

  21. Richard says:

Strange thing is, Failblog is still on Youtube… Failblog fail.

    • Dragonwriter says:

      *facepalm*

Guys…did you try reading the message up there at the top?

Especially the parts that say, “We’re back” and explain how YouTube has unfailed the vids for us?

      • ~AR says:

we’re supposed to figure that out with a broken (tl;dr: ) code and ill-formatting?

        continuity of writing fail.

        • Dragonwriter says:

Well, right up at the top it says,

“UPDATE at 3:45pm: Well, that was fast! YouTube has unfailed our vids. For now. We’ll work with them to get to a long-term resolution on this.

tl;dr: YouTube banned us. But now we’re back. Until we are banned again for reasons we don’t get.”

I dunno…I just don’t think it’s that hard to “figure it out” when they just come right out and tell us, but maybe it’s just me…

        • raelalt says:

And this coming from a guy that thinks tl;dr is html code.

  22. Foamer says:

Why not switch to Blip.TV? Better resolution than YouTube (at least until YouTube went HD) and I think nicer people.

  23. Desi says:

Stupid two-faced YouTube. One of the main reasons I come to this site is you get relatively safe amusement. As long as you don’t read the comments. :-D

  24. Anomnom says:

I’m sure Viacom had something to do with it.

    They hate everyone on Youtube.

  25. somewhat says:

so use Yahoo video instead, screw the tube if it wants to ban you

  26. foomanchu says:

Mebbe itz cuz videos of people getting hurt and such haz no intrinsic entertainment value?

(I like failblog, but skip the videos every time).

  27. dhbm says:

gawd!that bites!i’ve watched all the failvids, and i don’t remember seeing anything with adult content,or anyone getting bullied.i think youtube just has their panties in a twist over copy right infringement…and that this site is waaay better than youtube

  28. whosdadog says:

the reason you were banned is because you take other peoples videos, put your stupid little logo on top, and re add to Youtube. That is copy right infringement, which not only is against Community guidelines, but against the law also.

    • gunslinger says:

lolz? didn’t know home videos and such already posted on youtube had copyright and were against the law linking them on your page or reuploading it. i dont remember seeing anything that could be copyrighted on failblog like the thousands of movie clips and stuff that are already on youtube. you guys just think that everything is copyrighted now just because you didn’t upload it to the internet first

      • whosdadog says:

by default anything self made and uploaded to YouTube is by default copy righted unless it is released under a creative commons license.

        • Noconspiracy says:

You know you have to apply for a copyright, right?

          • yourprecious says:

No, you have applied for a copyright to DEFEND a copyright in court, generally. The “poor man’s copyright” – sending a certified package to yourself with the content inside – doesn’t usually hold up too well.

So you can still own the copyright for something without registering it…just don’t be surprised if someone takes it, and you find out you have no way to defend your ownership.

        • Saoirse says:

Copyright knowledge fail, redundancy win. :P

        • Rellakan says:

dude, stop saying “by default” it makes you sound kinda pretentious, no offense intended… just comes across that way when i hear it

      • Yang says:

How about paying YOUTUBE for hosting them and then paying for the download bandwith? FREE? watch them on youtube then.

    • titaniumspork19 says:

WOW, you’re slow. Did you not realize that people have to submit a video to have it on Failblog? Which is an action that must be taken on purpose by the submitter, not Failblog? If the original maker didn’t want their video to be reused, they should take it up with the submitter, not with Failblog, which just compiles all submitted videos to make it convenient for surfers.

  29. Paul Juser says:

Screw YouTube! Last week, they took down a video of mine for copyright violations. It was a video of me reading a story I wrote over photographs that I took.

  30. Elvis says:

I wish you guys would stop using YouTube to host your vids cause YouTube is lame. There are plenty of other video sharing sites that will happily take your traffic.

Also, I know a number of people that can’t enjoy all of the content on your site b/c YouTube is firewalled at their place of work.

My suggestion? Drop YouTube. Stupid fascists…

  31. Petruza says:

    Can I has Frzt?
    damn

  32. jon says:

I found this great Free Rider 2 site that everyone can join! Just google up “Free Rider 2 Popular Forums”, and it’ll be there !

  33. Yang says:

OH, Failblog got banned by YOU TUBE…

    funny….

Huh… want comes around goes around…

Watch (users comments) or not. Anything not breaking a law and not spitting out hate or profound language, the subimtting party should not be beaten up by the, hummm

Failblog, support crew, support team – owners? (wanta be’s)

I pass on their logic here.

    • Yang says:

      Sorry guys…

I got excited when I saw that the ”Crew” was laying low and ment to use

”Profane” – MY BAD – probably the last post before this address is banned by failblog.

Thank goodness for gmail addresses!!!!! what’s next hummmm…

      user cookies……. FUNNY STILL……

      • Yang says:

        Oh, and by the way…

You can get your own website address registered for – say 10 bucks – and point it to a FREE service – say wordpress address (this one)- and collect on all of the site hits…FUNNY… Keep clicking the links and paying for the 10$ registration fee…. hummm. it cost me 10 bucks? I make 10,000… seems like a good profit margin since I don’t have to PAY FOR THE YOUTUBE BANDWIDTH.

  34. Sebastian says:

    fuck you tube

  35. NorrisWolfwood says:

You guys should use Vimeo, its vastly superior to youtube in every way imaginable!

  36. ned-mark says:

they seem to be running just fine at the moment

  37. Youtubeblows says:

    Boycott Youtube on the 19th-21th

  38. James Conrad says:

Thank fuck the vids are back. You guys are the best! Don’t let the bastards get you down!!!

  39. Yang says:

    FYI – putz’es – no pay – no play…

This site is toast, unless management takes a firm step and starts contolling the HUMMMM crap that is spewed by the HUMMMMMM hourly users that don’t have a day job (life) or can screw their boss and play on this site while pulling a paycheck (screwing their company) during regular work hours, and pays for the stuff YOU DOWNLOAD. ECO 101

MY BAD but your blaiming the wrong party…

    The question is…

Why doesn’t FailBlog pay for what you receive?

  40. alex says:

FailTube is nothing but fails. With their new policies, their new layout, it’s nothing but a webfail.

  41. emily says:

I’ve seen videos on youtube that verge on pornographic.
But everytime someone gets their own huge amount of advertising youtube decides to go NAZI BITCH and shut them down.

Like every major website out there, they squish you like bugs.

  42. |55555| says:

One more reason to participate in the youtube blackout.

  43. Jeremy says:

YouTube just sucks. That’s all there is to it.

  44. lydia_nerd says:

just another way the man is keeping us down.

    youtube sucks anyway. case closed.

  45. fuzzymuffins says:

i do believe that the issue here has nothing to do with the content of the videos.

it is re-upping versions with the “failblog.org” stamped on them.

i know that i have seen nearly all videos posted on failblog on youTube. they’ve all been “around” a while”.

usually a “watermark” on a video implies ownership. it’s a way for the originator of the content tp take credit, and can prevent ‘bootlegging’ copies in the case of tv networks.

so watermarking ‘failblog.org’ on videos can be mis-interpreted as this website’s “original content”, of which it clearly is not.

i’m sure removing the watermark and just embedding the videos straight from youTube would solve it.

  46. Serena says:

To be fair I always thought it was a bit tasteless for failblog to grab videos from youtube and upload them to their own channel without linking back to the original videos.

    • K8 says:

What happens, see, is someone posts their video on youtube, then submits it to failblog, who then puts their logo on it & posts it on failblog. Failblog doesn’t troll youtube looking for funny fails… If you notice, every failblog post has a “submitted by…” tag after the picture/video.

  47. Youtube is way too corporate

  48. Hannah says:

That really stinks, i love Youtube but honestly it’s gotten too picky about content. Viacom is being silly about things too, like i had several fan videos on a youtube account that i worked on for several hours only to have account suspended for copyright infringement. it’s gotten way too crazy.

  49. lil fuzzy says:

try metacafe .quality is higher and they are not as full of crap as you tube

  50. Jess says:

    WTF YouTube?

  51. Es says:

Youtube support = EPIC FAIL. They’re about as useless as any support organization I’ve ever dealt with (and I’ve worked tech support. I know.) Their guidelines are completely unclear. They give you no way to know what you have ‘failed’ to follow. They refuse to follow up. They LIE.

Friend of mine got tagged for a ‘racy’ video that had no nudity, and a couple of purposefully bleeped words. A week and a half later and multiple rounds of email, failtube finally says “Oh, it was tagged racy, that’s why. Users with any racy content can’t be on the front page.” In the guidelines or user info *anywhere*? NO.

The next day? SNL’s ‘Dick in a box’ skit is up, front page. Epic fucking fail.

    • Saoirse says:

Google’s support is pretty awful too, especially dealing with Blogger (which is why I am now with WP). Seems as if both organizations are keen on wanton banning. I had a blog with Google for my workplace (a library), that was marked as a “spam blog” for all of the three links that were on it! I was up against a deadline and couldn’t get a soul to help me fix the problem. Fail. :(

      • Saoirse says:

Oops…I realize both Google and YouTube are part of the same monster… but I’m not sure if they have different support teams, with all the good they (don’t) do…

  52. Stace says:

I read failblog simply ‘cuz I like it. Screw google and their youtube crap. In my opinion, failblog stands on it’s own!

The readers like to laugh at the silly crap that is happenin’ in life & pretty sure this is the best place to get it!

    Party on, failblog!

Always a devoted reader… (and hopefully one day, submitter!)…

    Signed,
Fan of the ‘not very friendly’ opossum…

  53. Combe says:

    Use Dailymotion…

  54. ace62394 says:

I bet Brittney bribed YouTube to ban FailBlog so she could be number one viewed channel…

  55. Google : The cancer that is killing the internet.

  56. SkyBullet says:

Youtube is going through censorship laws. Im boycotting them for 2 days

  57. Mikey D says:

That looks photoshopped. Failblog would never use that font.

  58. snokful says:

Well, I feel I’ve learnt a few things about YouTube in the past ten minutes! And I get the feeling they suck. Boycott huh?

  59. Sisa says:

    FIIIRST!

  60. joe says:

yeah, Youtube does that…gives ban to users for no clear reason. Major Fail on they’re part for that.

  61. Paulholio says:

    First! ha ha suckers….oh….damn

  62. Paulholio says:

    Last!…ha ha

  63. Danilo says:

    switch to vimeo!

  64. Duncan says:

They hate you because you embed videos rather than linking to the site, I guess: rather than making them money you cost them by having their servers used by the thousands or whatever visitors to this site without those visitors viewing the ads the folks over at YouTube are selling.

    • Meh says:

No, they hate them because all Failblog does is: find videos on YouTube where bad things happen to people, download the video, add “As Seen On Failblog” in the corner, and then reupload the video under their account.

It’s pretty much the same crap that eBaum’s world gets called out for all the time.

  65. Lynnda says:

I was banned from youtube also. I never got an answer as to why and I haven’t bothered to set up another account.

    • Der Doppelganger says:

I know why. I remember all those naughty videos of yours. If you had at least shaved your legs you could stand a better chance.

  66. Paul says:

Fucking world powered by money. Fuck Google.
    Hm sorry for swearing but…

  67. Hannah says:

You want better service? Don’t deal with a company owned by Google.

  68. Barry says:

Fuck youtube, as soon as everyone realises they are pwnd the better.. ps.. whatever you do don’t offend anyone as soon as cash is involved..

    Fuck you and your tube!!

  69. mirt says:

Mmm, I agree with the other people reccommending Vimeo. It’s creamy and better looking. Why mess with the massive shitvat that is the ‘Tube?

  70. likesLSDalot says:

    youtube fucking sucks.
    how about onetruemedia?

  71. AlliXD says:

even when restored this is one of t he reasons i am part of the boycott XD

  72. Edward says:

Youtube’s censorship has gotten quite out of hand. I think people who rely on video content need to stop supporting them, and bowing to their arbitrarily puritanical controls over content distributed on the internet. There are other video sharing sites that have wholly open policies. And considering that failblog embeds all of its youtube videos onto their website proper, they would suffer little disadvantage by going elsewhere for their hosting.

    • kha says:

Exactly. Youtube fails. There are many other alternatives that should be promoted by people who appreciate freedom of speech.

  73. BenLloyd says:

I fux wit Fail Blog, take your videos over to another free video hosting site like vimeo or something. Do something because I love to watch people FAIL.
    thinkingbutyallcanreadit.blogspot.com

  74. Judd says:

“In all cases, we posted videos that were in line with what we had seen on YouTube.”

Did you really mean this as it reads? Thats like those morons that say, well, I know I was speeding, but I had to “keep up with the traffic”. The videos were within the TOS or they were not.

  75. Gryph says:

Why not just move to VEOH.com ?
They are less tyrannical and allow higher quality vids nor do they downgrade the video quality, as youtube does.

  76. Default says:

It’s not surprising, especially since Failblog steals videos and doesn’t give any credit to the original uploaders. They deserve it.

  77. csc2ya says:

I know exactly why it got suspended….I think I do anyway (uploading too many videos in too shirt a time period). same thing has happened with at least two other accounts that I know of in the past.

  78. EPIC FAIL! HA HA HA HA HA.

  79. rayraytoday says:

maybe try Google video lol. Veoh.com? isn’t Veoh getting money from companies that might not like all the juicy copyrighted videos on the site? so sweet to be able to download in high quality

  80. Soulcrun says:

It’s good that Failblog gets banned from YouTube.
Only 15% of the videos are “positive” laughers. The rest are all violent.

  81. savagemike says:

The issues you have with YouTube are symptomatic of all the Services/Sites Google has been snapping up lately. Try getting customer service on Feedburner and you’ll see what I mean.

  82. John says:

This isn’t the first time something like this happened, atleast you got your video’s back, but this did not happen for a guy called Athene, quite popular amongst World of Warcraft’ers. He basically had a very popular channel that was more popular than YouTube’s corporate partners/business bullshit, so therfore they removed ALL of his vids, simply because he had the most views and was number one for a week or something. You can probably find it if you google it.

    That’s all

  83. Dido says:

    Use DailyMotion…
There are less videos and visitors than in YouTube but I find the site much more friendly.

    Dido

    myfuckinglife.com

  84. lmaoyouthiefs says:

this will teach you fail ppl never to steal another vid again

  85. elizabeth says:

    Try Webcastr

  86. Steve says:

I found this post while searching Google to try to find out how to get you kicked off YouTube. I guess you were already but somehow you’re back? Oh well, I’ll keep trying. If you’re wondering why, it’s because all you’re doing is taking other people’s videos and re-uploading them with your logo. Real tough to become popular by doing that. Pricks. Go create something of your own instead of stealing from other people.

  87. 207th says:

    207th. fuk u fuk me

  88. Charly says:

  92. jjjjjj says:

    why is it still down?????

  93. Buster says:

How about you add videos that are already posted to Youtube instead of stealing them and adding the failblog.org stamp to them like they’re your original work? Seriously, it’s fucking pointless to have your own video channel to repost videos that are already on Youtube.

  94. 636benjamin says:

Fail YouTube. Use Vimeo. Way better.
