When the metric system came into use we changed most other things but kept mph. I'm sure we'll get around to it some day. The strange thing here in Northern Ireland is that we use mph like the rest of the UK, but when you drive south of the border into the Republic of Ireland they use km/h. It is more fun, I love driving on the autoroutes in France and doing 120kph! I guess it’s just too big a thing to change.
