what does PDT mean? i don’t know either!
didn’t bother to look at whether this was posted yet…
not sure whether wow turns on all their servers at once or not, but this is
assuming these people are all talking about the same server.
Wouldn’t 2 PDT mean 2 AM PDT (2 AM in California during daylight
savings)? If I’m right, fail on this guy for not knowing PDT, fail on people
for saying 5PM not 5AM on East coast, and fail on WoW for not putting
PM if they meant 2 PM PDT. When not stating/implying pm or am
military time is used in default.
WoW doesn’t use military times to express when servers are up. They do, however, make the distinction between AM and PM in such cases. They do, when doing server maintenance, refer to PDT as their standard time format, considering Blizzard’s main offices are located in California, that makes sense.

I totally agree. I only started to play because it was something to relieve stress after all my classes and work. I played a few hours a week when my IRL friends could be on. None the less anyone that hears me mention WoW always spouts the same drivle about “friends don’t let friends play wow” and “it’s more addictive than crack”
It’s just unfortunate that any game decently fun to play that you can just switch your brain off and relax while playing is also the hang out for a large portion of the population that do not realize how to turn their brain on in the first place.

Guild Wars is solid.
Silkroad Online, Shaiya, Heroes Online, LOTR and mmud if you’re old school. Besides, there’s always the aspect of setting up a private wow server. However since you’re apparently incapable of locating games on your own if they don’t exist in boxes at GameStop, I couldn’t rightfully expect you to be able to figure out setting up a server even with the instructions.
Fortunately, Battlenet is free. I got WoW’s trial version with the Diablo battlechest. Had it two years before I bothered with the WoW, and it was only then I realised it was, in fact, a trial. Didn’t fet to play it much during the trial (piss me off! It is a fun game!) I _was_ going to spend the $20 or so to buy the damn thing, until I found out I’d have to keep paying to keep playing. I called them up, and told them I’d stick to Diablo2 and Battlenet. Though Diablo 2, alas, isn’t so nice and open-ended as WoW.
Sigh. I do like it, but come on, people! Also, during my trial, their servers went down for putting in some expansion. This is probably the same time that this person is complaining about. When it came back up, it kept sending “patches” that ended up filling up my HD. Had to get rid of it, and even if I could afford to blow $15US every month on a game, I wouldn’t be able to fit the bloody thing on what I have left for space! Argh!

I haven’t played in a long time, but don’t they put the time that the server is running on so 7:00 PDT, and on the same page it will say when the server is up. so you just…do some math.

European users are on the European servers, for the most part. Same with Asia. The only people who would have that excuse would be the Aussies and New Zealanders, but then they’ve started resetting the Oceanic servers with AES/DT instead of PS/DT.
I think it was a combination of not knowing PDT (despite being in Cali) and not knowing the east coast is three hours ahead of him, meaning that 5 pm on east coast is the SAME as 2 pm PDT

no, see, blizzard can’t start them at the same time because the east coast is 3 hours into the future (relative to the west coast): that is to say, when you call between time zones you’re actually talking to the past and not the present (thats why the times are off). what YOU need to do is travel 3 hours into the future, that way you’ll be able to play WoW at the same time as everyone else
