In an episode, Patric says “East, ohh, I thought you said ‘Weast’.” So, he thought there was an East to the Western direction, and a “Weast” to the Eastern direction.
the reason its backwards is because in an episode of spongebob squarepants, spongebob gives Patrick a compass, and they go the wrong way, and Patrick says “oh east? i thought you said weast.”
Actually, that coordinate system is not entirely wrong. It just means that you’re looking at the surface of the Earth from beneath the surface of the Earth.
Mr. Krabs: Where’s the X? It’s supposed to be right here. 10,000 paces east… Patrick: Oh. East? I thought you said “Weest.” Mr. Krabs: “Weest?” What kind of compass are you reading, lad? Patrick: This one, sir. Mr. Krabs: That’s West, Patrick. You’re fired again.
Actually the E and W are flipped on actual compasses. Compasses always point North, and if you turn to the right you are facing East so the E on the compass needs to be on the left side for that to work.
Actually, there is probably a compass with actual directions the front.
This is the back.
So if you were facing the front of it, and it was facing the right direction, it would be correct… and then if you walked around to the back, west and east would still be pointing in the right directions.
If West was on the left, then it would be on the right on the other side, giving us two different Wests… which wouldn’t be right.
So this is no fail. If anyone can understand what I’m saying.
Well…for those of us who HAVE used a map, we know that the symbol on that lunchbox is called a “compass rose”, which indicates the cardinal directions in relation to each other.
I’m pretty sure that when facing north, east is never going to be to my left.
That’s SpongeBobs perspective…. Let’s imagine you’re him, you’re lying on the seabed watching the waves go over you like we watch the clouds…… now, above you’re head would be North, below your toes would be South……. sooooooo……. to your right hand would be the West and to your left, the East…. get it????? Come on, the dude lives in a Pineapple under the sea…… give him a break.
Wow, how could ever live with yourself! Running the wrong way for fifteen minutes in World of Warcraft! Even the fact that you play WoW makes you a phailasarous.
When they actually slice the cookie and place it on the pan, the other side that has yet to be cut needs to be on the top. Then it will be “right-side up.”
This is a compass. Look at a real compass sometime. Think about this for a moment. The needle always points North. If you are heading (or pointed) West, North is to the right of you. Hence West it is on the right on the compass.
This was probably made in China, where Mah Jongg is extremely popular. This is how the “winds” (and seats) are arranged in Mah Jongg (I don’t know why). The graphic artist probably thought this was correct, being more familiar with Mah Jongg than with geography or a compass.
At first I thought it was a roll of cookie dough, which I thought would be right because then when the cookies were baked the east and west would be correct.
Doesn’t anyone remember the episode where Mr. Crabs asks Patrick “What kind of a compass are you reading, son?”
(Patrick headed West albiet Mr. Crabs said to go East because Patrick thought West was pronounced “Wheast”. This is not a fail, it’s pop-culture for nerds).
I call no fail
its an episode of spongebob where they’re walking and patrick gets east and west mixed up and they go the wrong way 10000 paces and have to go back that much and another 10000
This isn’t a fail, its the way a compass is set up. A compass has east and west opposite how they are oriented in the real world because the needle only points north, thus, rotation 90 degrees counterclockwise in the real world you would face west, but the compass (if it matched the actual orientation) would have the needle point at east. Think about it
they actually based this picture on that one episode of spongebob when they were on a treasure hunt. mr. crabs and spongebob made patrick in charge of holding the compas. they were supposed to go east. after walking for a long time, patrick said, “OHHHH, I THOUGHT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GO WEEEST” so, thats prolly why they did that.
QUOTE FROM THE SHOW:
“Ok, Patrick, 1000 paces east!”
“OK!”
LATER..
“What??? There should be an X to mark the spot! 1000 paces east…”
“East? Oh, I thought you said ‘weest’”
“What kinda compass you got boy? … That’s west, not weest.”
-
It’s a reference to that episode.
Perhaps the log was just made to be hung to a high ceiling. Then the indications would have been right, like on a sky map (you see the sky from beneath)

Seeing the JK fail… Or if you didn’t know… JK means “Just Kidding.”
Those pesky English acronyms… I was thinking you were somebody of Kennedy’s family
Not many of them left!
Which is sad.
I’m a big proponent of cloning JFK and RFK and naming them Kings of America. But maybe that’s just me.
Also: East and West, LOL.
Would you clone a target on them to save time?
.. just clone Hoover and keep him in reserve – if the Kennedy’s start getting out of hand, give him a dress and turn him loose…
i don’t think you’d need to give him a dress, i think he had that covered
Having 2 kings, not even we Dutch have that…
We two kings of Orient are…
I thought it was something to do with that woman who writes about Harry Pothead.
At Wort/hogs?
ah
In case you guys have not noticed that is a reflection from a mirror.
What? No it’s not. If it were, the text would be backwards too.
Also: LOL@Spongebob
** In case you guys have not noticed that is a reflection from a mirror. ***
In case you haven’t noticed, you are a moron.
LOL noob. Youre a fail.
In a real compass, thats how is shown.
fail. if it was the rest of the text would be backwards too. and the E would look like a 3. idiot.
In an episode, Patric says “East, ohh, I thought you said ‘Weast’.” So, he thought there was an East to the Western direction, and a “Weast” to the Eastern direction.
ok guys SpongBob is under the sea, east and west is bassackwards
the reason its backwards is because in an episode of spongebob squarepants, spongebob gives Patrick a compass, and they go the wrong way, and Patrick says “oh east? i thought you said weast.”
no, It’s backwards because it’s a thing of cookie doughthat you cut up to make cookies, and we’re looking at it from the wrong side.
duh
Actually, that coordinate system is not entirely wrong. It just means that you’re looking at the surface of the Earth from beneath the surface of the Earth.
It works if you’re underwater, looking up at the underside of the map.
Not really, because then you’d see the letters flipped. =)
It works if you look at it just the way it is printed if you hold it ABOVE you, looking up at it.
you don’t have to be under water.
The letters would still be flipped =]
This is great for sending your kids on excursion… if you are not interested on them coming back
Here’s your peanut butter and jelly dear. Now hand Mommy that lighter and go play in traffic.
set your compasses to civilization!
You never know, Spongebob might have a star chart painted onto the side of his house…
Underwater…
With no stars on it…
For a sponge looking up from the bottom of the see this would be the correct way so no fail
Of course spelling sea as see is a FAIL, but i can claim temporary insanity as i’m dutch
might even be permanent
In underwater, spelling fails you.
I just accidently South North. What should i do?
i just clicked here to reply.
there were too many L’s in that accidenty, plz reference fails better next time k thnx bai
^– Huggy Bear FAILS. It’s “kthxbai.”
Unless I’m wrong, in which case he’s still the economy.
Opposite day, perhaps? o.O
I HATE opposite day!
But then wouldn’t North and South be switched, too?
Maybe Spongebob is trying to send a political message – that there is no “East” and “West” and that we are all the same…….
Kumbaya!
Lawl, witty name fail.
Since it’s “Reply to this Comment” on this site, yes.
^– WIN!
Is it part of the Government teaching initiative.?
Yeah, it’s part of Obama’s proposed education reforms. How’d you know?
Childe SpongeBob to the Dark Tower Came.

Childe SpongeBob to the dark tower came,
His word was still ‘Fie, foh, and fid

SpongeBob blows a mean sea-slug horn.
Spongebob blowing a sea slug seems a little racy for the children.
Never > Eat > Soggy > Waffles
North > East > South > West.

Now we say “eki eki eki ptang zoop boing”
Oh yeah, strange movie reference. +675 points
How did the waffles get soggy? Or is that one of those crazy frat initiation pranks?
Well in spongbobs case it’s fairly obvious how the soggies got waffled
I say Never > Eat > Soggy > Weetbix
But that’s because I’m Australian.
Another popular one is Never > Entertain > Sexy > Women
‘Oh, East? I thought you said ‘Weast’!’
WIN! ^
thats what i was thinking!
i think this was done on purpose
It must have been made by a man… we all know that they have no sense of direction… wait… did I just insult myself?
Why not? They never ask directions.
Men don’t need to ask directions. Didn’t you know we always know where we…
Aren’t?
Ignore this. Damn failblog ate my comment.
Aaaand now it’s back where it should be. WTF?
3x comment fail.
That’s a Lionel Richie song, no? An ode to his daughter? Once, Twice, Three times a failure…

Estos FAIL son cada vez peores…
This image can be a mirror…. Not good.
It’s a very picky mirror, right? Not one of those that would reflect anything…
Mr. Krabs: Where’s the X? It’s supposed to be right here. 10,000 paces east…
Patrick: Oh. East? I thought you said “Weest.”
Mr. Krabs: “Weest?” What kind of compass are you reading, lad?
Patrick: This one, sir.
Mr. Krabs: That’s West, Patrick. You’re fired again.
That wacky Patrick Star
Easy to imagine the poor kid, years later, unable to distinguish East and West. Educational fail…
It’s for kids with dipolar disorder.
East is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet.
It’s difficult to meet the Twain. He’s been dead awhile.
I’ll mark the truth of that statement.
Hmm…the weather looks quite clement today.
Best go out and kill something… Oh! Sorry Dragon, I forgot you were American.
Sam-uel tell you it’s balmy.
Hmm, I’m rather on the fence with this one. It seems whitewashed to me.

Damn. My fried egg has the consistency of a pockey huck.

Actually the E and W are flipped on actual compasses. Compasses always point North, and if you turn to the right you are facing East so the E on the compass needs to be on the left side for that to work.
I don’t know how you use a compass, but I let the needle point to the “N” and have all the letters pointing in the right directions at once…
The lunchbox isn’t a compass. On any compass I’ve seen, E can be found clockwise from N, but here is little sense in Gaussing about it.
Wow, you are an idiot. And an idiot who has never once seen a compass.
http://www.amazon.com/Silva-2801020-Lensatic-360-Compass/dp/B000EQ81QK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1227126978&sr=8-3
At school we learned our compass by remembering Never Eat Soggy Weatbix, I wonder what this one would be??
That makes no sense to me, considering you could interpret that either way by going counter-clockwise or clockwise. We learned to spell “we”
It’s for an Australian map, stupid.
This is not the back. It is the side. It looks to be the right side specifically.
You know, I am blonde, and the official finder of this Fail. If a blonde can see that it is wrong, then it is a serious Fail of nature. Recognize.
*yawn*
That’s not fail… for those who have never used a map, “west” is not always “left.” Similarly, “north” is not “up.”
Failpic fail
Well…for those of us who HAVE used a map, we know that the symbol on that lunchbox is called a “compass rose”, which indicates the cardinal directions in relation to each other.
I’m pretty sure that when facing north, east is never going to be to my left.
You called? I heard my name… oh, wait, you’re talking about the picture, aren’t you?? I want a compass rose on ME, if that counts??
Ooh…so your fiance’s name is Compass Rose??
Honeysuckle Rose I remember her well…
Oh Est? I thought you meant Weast. How Wumbo of you.
In south pole is it correct
That’s SpongeBobs perspective…. Let’s imagine you’re him, you’re lying on the seabed watching the waves go over you like we watch the clouds…… now, above you’re head would be North, below your toes would be South……. sooooooo……. to your right hand would be the West and to your left, the East…. get it????? Come on, the dude lives in a Pineapple under the sea…… give him a break.
Nice Pac-man traps.
…But what if he was laying the other way… This picture is a liaf.
It’s actually suppose to be read with a mirror, while playing horror sound effect while yelling redrum
…so it is not fail
So…then all the letters would be reversed?
This is the idea
No, dumbass. A backwards S is more of a Z, for instance.
I saw this earlier this morning. I was making a blanket with compasses on it and I felt the urge to check every compass to make sure it was right.
Damn you, SpongeBob. Damn you..
a STAR MAP does invert east and west…
So its a star travel compass. That must be way ahead of its peers and just in time for Christmas.
It’s a conspiracy from Nick to make children as ignorant as possible.
My brain does this. I cannot tell you how many times I have spent fifteen minutes running in the wrong direction in WoW.
Wow, how could ever live with yourself! Running the wrong way for fifteen minutes in World of Warcraft! Even the fact that you play WoW makes you a phailasarous.
It’s actually correct if it was flipped around the other way. Sorry.
Well of course… It’s on a Spongebob toy…
This is FAKE. You can see that the W and E is tilted… It’s photoshopped.
i agree. shall and pedantic
oops *shallow*
It’s not fake. I found it while eating dinner. It was bought at an Academy store. Don’t be a hater.
All you have to do is google image search “compass” to know it’s fake
I’ve used that compass before for my own projects
SPONGEBOB!!!!
“Oh. EAST? I thought you said ‘weest.’”
“…that’s WEST…”
Aw drat. Captain Awesome stole my idea. Sorta.
spongebob doesn’t need to go east or west
When they actually slice the cookie and place it on the pan, the other side that has yet to be cut needs to be on the top. Then it will be “right-side up.”
I did the same thing. Don’t feel bad. We both have EYESIGHT FAIL, I supose.
Ok, “yes” I need to go back to bed….it’s a lunch box and not cookies!!! LOL
The kids are SCREWED!
This is a FAIL FAIL
This is a compass. Look at a real compass sometime. Think about this for a moment. The needle always points North. If you are heading (or pointed) West, North is to the right of you. Hence West it is on the right on the compass.
Yes??
Good. Now go do something productive.
This was probably made in China, where Mah Jongg is extremely popular. This is how the “winds” (and seats) are arranged in Mah Jongg (I don’t know why). The graphic artist probably thought this was correct, being more familiar with Mah Jongg than with geography or a compass.
Um, you do realize if you were facing south while holding this, east would be to your left and west would be to your right?
At first I thought it was a roll of cookie dough, which I thought would be right because then when the cookies were baked the east and west would be correct.
Then I saw it was a lunchbox, so, I FAIL.
Well, E and W aren’t the same as left and right so, maybe it was in the right direction? lol…. Still printed wrong for a compass though!
Doesn’t anyone remember the episode where Mr. Crabs asks Patrick “What kind of a compass are you reading, son?”

Or go buy a compass and check it out.
If you have a compass whose needle points east, it is broken. Why don’t /you/ go buy a compass?
Photoshop ftw?
3 clicks and it looks like that…
actually, that is accurate for star charts.

Never Waste Super Erections?
I always knew Spongebob was made of fail, and horrendously stupid. this just proves it.
One for the kids…
Actually, a NAUTICAL compass reverses east and west.
I think its a just a reference to a spongebob episode where patrick mixes up east and west.
they actually based this picture on that one episode of spongebob when they were on a treasure hunt. mr. crabs and spongebob made patrick in charge of holding the compas. they were supposed to go east. after walking for a long time, patrick said, “OHHHH, I THOUGHT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GO WEEEST” so, thats prolly why they did that.

It’s a reference to that episode.
There is an Admiral of the US Navy that believes East and West reverse directions south of the equator. This is his lunchbox.
Perhaps the log was just made to be hung to a high ceiling. Then the indications would have been right, like on a sky map (you see the sky from beneath)
