Barack Obama is the Presidential candidate for the Democratic party, while Sarah Palin is only the running mate of John McCain, the Republican party candidate. It’s kind of an “apples/oranges” issue, although Palin would be ‘upgraded’ to the ‘apple’ if/when McCain McCroaks.

Not everybody proof-reads newspapers before they get released. A local newspaper mistakenly chose the wife of the wrong candidate to be mentioned, just because the journalist was too lazy to look up that old story.
